good afternoon...
I just want to ask your advice regarding the following:
1. can an application or program coded in vb.net 2002/2003 with sql server as database work in linux platform? because
my client (a school) has plan of changing their windows platform to linux. is there anything i can do so that i can run a vb.net application with sql server database? what are the pros and cons IF a vb.net application with sql server run in linux?
2. what are the databases that could run both in linux and in windows? please enumerate some...

If it's a desktop application then no.
If it's a web application then yes, provided that the server(s) is a Windows Server (2000 or 2003). The Linux client is then just consuming HTML.

You definitely won't be able to run a SQL Server database on anything but Windows. If you port your application to Mono, the open-source X-platform version of .NET (there are articles on the codeproject site) then you stand a chance, but again not everything will be guranteed to work. However, there are some real industrial-strength Mono applications out there, so you can probably achieve what you want with some effort.

MySql if you want free, otherwise, Oracle or DB2...

It looks like google[^] knows.
The answer is bound to be COM, so look up the COM interfaces that AutoCAD exposes, and also read the articles from the google search.

I found many source code hits on Google using convert number to words as the search terms. There are samples in Java, VBA, VB etc...
See if one of those is the right one for you.

I need explorer to open a folder so that i can view the files inside. No browsing or dialog box is needed, I just need to open that specific folder with Windows after clicking a button. Anyone knows how to do this?
Another question would be how do i declare a statement as a string if that statement has "" in it?
E.g.
Marks = "69" Grades = "C"
How do i declare the above sentence as one whole string?

I believe you double the quotes, as in
String s = "Marks = ""69"" Grades = "C"""
In C#, it's \", but I believe it's double quotes in VB.

I'd say that ShellExecute or Process.Start will do this, just pass in the path.

Where ever you want to put quotes inside of a string use ""
So this --> 1 "2" 3 would be coded as "1 ""2"" 3".

What's an sdf ? You want to move a csv into a SQL Server database ? If you know the format of the file, create a table that follows it, and INSERT all the rows into it.

I am getting an error when debuging a program that is: "An unhandled Exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred." I also see in my Event Viewer: Event ID 10020 Source DCOM. "The machine wide Default Launch and Activation security descriptor is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool."
This is what I have in my source code: "Dim xlBook As Excel.Workbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Add"
I have tried to give EVERYONE access to the "Microsoft Excel 97 Application" in DCOM. This had no effect on the code.
I would appreciate any suggestions or solutions for this issue.

Try wrapping your code with Try/Catch (see example) to trap the error and see what additional information it gives you.

What is the use of that?I will apreciate if somebody can give me a brief idea about that.

Public Sub New() is whats called the constructor for a class in VB. In there, you can set variables to default values, or other stuff thats required for the class to work properly.
C# is a little different...

I am writing an ASP .Net Web Application using VB .Net 2003. I would like to create a modal web page or dialog box so that I can have my users add additiiona information. I know that in Java there is window.showModalDialog but is there a way in VB .Net to do this?

No, there isn't. ASP.NET is a server-side only technology that generates HTMl for a browser. You'll have to use JavaScript for this.
