Hi, everybody!
I need help... I'm still trying to develop a kind of a firewall for WinNT/2K/XP, in C++. I'm using a program that hooks Windows API functions and it works reasonably good. The way it hooks Windows API functions is injecting the dll to every process using CreateRemoteThread().
My problem is with two functions: accept() and listen() aren't hooked (I've tried to hook them from WS2_32.DLL and WSOCK32.DLL), altough the code I've written should be hooking them (I've hooked lots of API functions the same way without a problem -CreateProcess, ExitProcess, send, recv, etc..-), but I don't seem to be able to hook those two functions.
Do you have any idea of what can be the reason for this?

When you connect an usb oder insert a cd, there always comes up that list with possible actions one can do, e.g. copy pictures with this app, or play audios with that application.
Does anyone know, how I can register my own application to be shown here? And what is the correct name for this dialog?

It's a matter of setting up the right reg entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers. If you search MSDN for "AutoplayHandlers" you should find the relevant docs.

Thank you. Now I can show and start an application. But I have still a problem with the resources. The point is, that I have to start the application in a specific place. Do you know, how I can set a working path in this case?

Hi, does anyone one know how to setup safe vpn on a Windows 2003? My server just doesn't accept messages. I have PPTP connections setup, when I attempt to VPN it says 'user doesn't have permissions' but I do have my Permissions setup. Anyones help would be nice. I have tried using the MSDN, and knowledge base, but no luck. Thanks!

If nothing else changes it on startup, %SystemDrive%\.
I say it this way, because NT doesn't have to have a C drive. It can be any letter you assign to the volume. I have a machine at home that starts up on F:. So, when you open any command prompt, you don't get a "C:\>" prompt, you get "F:\>".

What do you mean by home directory? Did you mean the default directory of "My Document" folder or system or program file folder. In my opinion, these default folder you can check from the command prompt by typing the command SET and press enter.

Hi there,
I am developing a ASP  web application where i need to display different character like chinese malay etc, and english iam using this code snippet to dispay the native character

and it working fine but the problem is when i try with english character and save and retrive data for the database some character r missing like if i keyin "testing" or "123test" save and retrive i get output "esting" "23es" but the chinese character r working fine can any body suggest me the solution iam using window 2003 server with iis 6.0 for my development,
the most amazing point is i try the same code in my desktop which as win xp with iis 5.1 and it working perfectly no missing character....

On my PC Net.Exe is not functional except System32 folder.
I think it is the problem of path adjustment.
In the Command Prompt of Windows XP I check path configuraton by path command. The path is adjusted to
PATH=%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Fi<br />
les\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\;C:\Program Files\backburner 2\;C:\MATLABR11\bi<br />

How I solve it?

If you PATH at a CMD prompt and it gives you exactly what you posted, this means that the Path value type in the registry is REG_SZ and not REG_EXPAND_SZ.
Open RegEdit and navigate down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
to find the Path value.
You'll have to open the current Path value, copy the string that's in it, delete the path value, then create a new value called Path, then paste the string back into the the new value.

I copied following path by regedit from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment\path
The path is as under:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\;C:\Program Files\backburner 2\;C:\MATLABR11\bin;
The problem still persists.

Did you delete the Path value and recreate it as a REG_EXPAND_SZ type? If you did not use this type, you just recreated the problem all over again. IT MUST BE A REG_EXPAND_SZ value type!
Oh! You must reboot for the change to take effect...

Hi, I have a problem with my printer. When I print the document, it print normally. After that when I log off and logon again or restart to log on again, the previous document that i used to print is print again. That make me waste a lot of paper and time consuming. I have discover that the document that i have print did not delete from the printer queue. I try to print a test a document and it print normally. After that restart my computer and when i log on i found the previous document that i have print still remain in the printer queue. Can anyone give me the point what is this problem come from? and how to solve it?

Thank you very much for your information. My printer is connect directly to the computer and i never set it to offline. Now I use this script[^] in the group policy for the shutdown and start up script to clear all the information of the printer queue.

That gets around the problem. It doesn't fix it.
The thing that would be concerning me is what is causing the problem and is it eventually going to get worse?

Anyone know how to programmatically change a LOCAL drive letter and have the change take effect immediately? (I can do it using WMI on network mappings, but I've been unable to do it on a local drive. Found a way to do it that changes the registry, but it requires a reboot....)
