I will try and makes this question simple, so if anyone could lend a hand that would be great...
Basically, I want certain tabs on my tab form disabled but not removed completely when a certain condition has not been met (such as a user not logging in)
and clickable and functional when they have logged in.
please help asap =)

In the tab control use the tabs collection like tabl(0) to enable or disable any tab on appropriate time/action you want to perform.
you can even set the visibility as well and any other action.

ok so this might get a bit long but i hope someone can read thru and tell me where im being an idiot 
so i have to get data from a source database and write it to an xml file defined by a destination database schema file (xsd) ... what im doing is this:
1. create a dataset and load a schema file into it to define the structure & relationships
2. create a custom mapping file (in plain text) that defines the query i'll use to pull the data from tables in the old database to fit with the new tables in the new database
3. for each line in the mapping file i run the query and read the result set row by row adding each row to the output dataset in the correct table
4. write the xml from the output dataset
is there a better way to do this?

 i use a module containing the sub main.
in this module there's notifyIcon and an object (objX) of Form (X).
doing one of these:
objX.Visible=true
or
objX.Hide=true
causing all of the application to treminiate
is there and way to hide the form without minimizing it and closing the appliction.
with considering the notifyIcon.ContextMenu has a show menuItem and Hide MenuItem?

Hello,
I have a little problem, i am expecting a solution.
I have a combobox loaded with data. I have to do some operations once the New item is selected. But i don't want to use selectedindex/value changed event, as this will change on any selection. Instead i want to perform the operation once the item is selected i.e. once the change is committed. The event is SelectionChangeCommitted.
The problem with SelectionChangeCommitted is that this never fires in different cases like COmboBox is in drop mode and we are using keyboard arrow keys to select different items. Now when we click anywhere on the form the value is changed but this event is not fired!
There are other cases like you are going through values in drop mode and then you press escape button. New Value is selected but again SelectionChangeCommitted is not fired.
So Can anyone tell me the work around ?
Waiting anxiously for some solution.

Each firing event execute a subrutine in Visual Basic. In some cases when one event is firring and not the other which you want, You can fire it manualy by calling the subrutine that executes against that event which is to fired.
If user selects with arrow keys.
KeyUp event can be used to fire Click Event
Sub MyCombo1_KeyUp(KeyCode as Integer, Shift as Integer)<br />
If KeyCode = 38 or KeyCode = 40 then<br />
Call MyCombo1_Click<br />
End If<br />
End Sub
When user will press Up or Down keys, Click Event Functionality will also work.
This is only the demonstration, you can manage it your self.

Normally, barcode readers are just like a second keyboard. You put the focus in the TextBox, or whatever, scan the code, and whatever the barcode reader sees is "typed" into the TextBox. It's a little more complicated than that, but that the basic idea.
It sounds liek you really don't have any experience with this. I would suggest getting into the documentation for the barcode reader and putting togther a test app or two to "play" with the reader to see how it works.

hi friends..
Im facing a problem in doing my project for Search files or folders between 2 computers in workstation using Visual Basic language...
Searching files are based on their filename, word or phrase of the files.The searhing result will be display the filename, filepath ,filesize,create on and last updated in a List View toolbox.
Please help me !!!

Help with what? You've just laid out the general specifications for your program, but you didn't ask a question specific enough to answer. What part of this are you having problems with? Have you started to write the code yet?

Yes..this is my first app in VB. Before this, i have a general knowledge in PHP.For this project, i have to use VB. I need ur help as soon as possible because i have to submit this project next week. The scope of this project are search files in localhost and network.I've settled down for searching in localhost computer.But i dont know the coding in searching files in the network..

First, I doubt anyone even has any RTC code for VB6. Second, their not going to give it you just so you can copy and paste it into your app and call it your own.
But, here's[^] the documentation, with a few C++ samples, and the Microsoft RTC Client SDK.

Members,
I am interested in maintaining my tab order on a web page. I have a very simple page with 2 dialog boxes & 2 dropdownlist boxes.
Field1 DropDownList1
Field2 DropDownList2
I have the tab order set from left to right from the top down. So, you cursor move from Field1 to DropDownList1, to Field2 and finally to DropDownList2.
However, when the selectedindexchanged event fires, I no longer maintain my focus and leave DropDownList1 and land in Field2.
Where does the cursor go (besides the address bar of the current webpage) and how to I get the focus to move to the next field in order?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Since this is a web application, you have no control over the focus from VB.NET. You'll have to add JavaScript to your web page to control the focus. But, I have no idea how to do it.

Dave,
I do know how to set focus with javascript, in fact, I have a utility DLL compiled with my application for setting the focus on a specific control when a web page loads.
However, when I put that function in as the last statement of my .SelectedIndexChanged event -- I can see the focus go there, but it does not stay because the page gets refreshed again (I suppose).

Yes it does. This is why you really can't control the focus from the server-side. The focus must be setup and controlled entirely in client-side JavaScript in your page.
