Using a pc I would use
GetBitmapBits
to get all the bits that make up an image, CE 4 however does not support this
I have tried a load of things to get the bitmap bits
the latest is this
//Get a handle to the screen DC
HDC hdcScreen = CreateDC(_T("DISPLAY"), NULL, NULL, NULL);
//CREATE A COMPATIBLE DC
HDC hdcCompatible = CreateCompatibleDC(hdcScreen);
// Create a compatible bitmap for hdcScreen.
HBITMAP hbmScreen = CreateCompatibleBitmAP(hdcScreen,lBitmap.bmWidth,lBitmap.bmHeight);
//PUT OBJECT IN TO THE DC TO BE POPULATED WITH INFO
SelectObject(hdcCompatible, hbmScreen);
//COPY INFO FROM SCREEN DC TO COMPATIBLE DC
BitBlt(hdcCompatible,0,0,lBitmap.bmWidth,lBitmap.bmHeight,hdcScreen,0,0,SRCCOPY);
So at this point i would expect the hbmScreen to be populated with all the current screen information, the next thing i need to do is see all that info in a bitmap i thought somthing like this might work but no
BITMAP* bitmap = (BITMAP*)hbmScreen;
I thought the above would allow me to get the bitmapbits as below
bitmap.bmBits
but I get bugger all back, this is begining to get on my tits, so if anyone knows any way of getting the raw data and can post up the example code or even show me where i am going wrong I would be oh so happy

HP had a printing sdk and everything but it does not work with WM5 and they no longer suport it. You might find a copy some where. It works very well and it is a real letdown not having it for WM5.

I am recently writing a small utility for my new axim pda, using c#. In order to retrieve speed information from the CPU, i have to go down to assembly codes in C++. I am planning to write my own dll in C++ and then Pinvoke it in C# to do the job.
The problem is, VC C++ doesnt seem to reconize the assembly coes i wrote, it keeps giving me "error C2209: syntax error: "<l_type_ambig>" in the bolded line
inline unsigned _Read_CCNT(void) {
register unsigned _val_;
asm volatile("mrc\tp14,0,%0,c1,c0,0":"=r"(_val_));
return _val_;
}
I wonder if this is happening because I need a special assembler or something, thx for the info

Hi all,
Maybe this forum is more adapted to my question... I want to create a form that will show as a dialog like a MessageBox, I know Windows Mobile permits it as I saw it in other apps, but how can I achieve this using .NET CF ?
Thanx,
Stephane

Hi everyone!
I would need some message like WM_DEVICECHANGE as for desktops, that tells me that the hardware recently changed.
I would like to realize if someone plugged in an USB stick into the WinCE 5.0 device, but there seems to be no windows message equivalent to the one I mentioned above. So what else could I process to get the required information!?
I have looked through the MSDN and the net, but I could not find anything so far. Maybe my message is even sent by Windows but it's just not mentioned anywhere in the documentation... (Then I would still need some kind of hardcoded integer, since the compiler does not know anything called WM_DEVICECHANGE )
Any suggestions would be gread, no matter which way has to be gone to reach the new hardware information!
Thanks a lot in advance,
Roland

Hi Roland,
I just encountered this very same question. So, if you find an answer I'd be happy to hear about possible solutions and vice versa.

Hey there,,,,,,,,,,
im working on cygnal microcontroller C8051F040 and am trying to interface it with a sonar.t program is ready as far as the interfacing is concerned. but while sending the necessary data over the CAN bus to other nodes, i have a slight problem i.e. i can't store data on flash. Can u help me fined some sites where they have sample programs on CAN & FLASH. is there any kind of a clash between FLASH initialisation & CAN ?? I have configured the CAN bus at 1MBPS.
sonar runs at 115200 baud. and both the uart's run at 115200 baud.
without the FLASH, the data is transferred successfuly to all the other nodes. but with FLASH, the program hangs(if CAN is started.) I also tried disabling CAN before FLASH. doesn't work.. Can nybody help me??
Waitin eagerly....

I can drop a datagrid on my form in the IDE and nothing complains, but when I try to build it, it says it can't find a reference to the control. What's up with that?
All works fine on the PocketPC version of my app.
Thanks!

Hi,
This is my first time posting here. I recently got a mobile device and it has made me want to make programs for it. I really enjoy messing and tinkering with it. The reason I want to make a program for it is cause, I think the O/S it has is very stripped down version? It doesn't even have the explorer.exe. So right now i'm using a file management for CE prog. It is running Windows CE 4.2 and I think it uses Compact Framework I see it in the "Remove Program" menu.
My goal is to make a Shortcut program for it when it starts up. Basically a program that just calls up other programs. My requirements are:
Uses the entire screen
No Menu bar or status bar (also no Minimize, restore, and close box at top right)
5 buttons
Uses Icons as buttons
when buttons are pressed it shows a pressed down state
My question is, I don't know almost anything about programming. I do know QBasic and thats it. Could someone please send me in the right direction like the right software required to make this program and reading articles, books, etc that could help me to acheive my goal.
Thank you for your time,
kim

kim it will take time to create a Embedded Application FOR YOU (right now) as you dont have any concept. We (mostly) use .NET for developing embedded applications. i advice you to purchase a Beginner VB.NET Book and try to get some information from MS Compact Framework on the internet .. also there are alot of articles available on Internet for beginners to learn VB.NET and compact framework.
the second option for you is to learn about Embedded Visual Basic.

Hey Ram,
Thanks for the reply, Atleast I kinda know where to start now. I'll go check out some books at my local bookstore. I talked to someone else and they reffered me to Embedded Visual C++. Can you let me know which program would suite my situation?
Thanks again

Yes he is right. VC++ is quite difficult to USE. Many times 1 line code is .net is replaced with 10 lines code in VC++. I suggest you to learn VB.NET or Embedded vb. According to my experiance VB.net is better for Embedded Development

------------------->
Do VB.net provide access to all low-level programing
fundamentals as like VC++,
u r true about vc+ can take 10 line of code which vb does in 1 line
but vb dont have that flexibility .

Does anyone still toy with the Palm platform anymore? They're damn cheap nowadays, I'd think people would find a use for a simple handheld with 8MB and simple PIM capabilities and IR/RS232 serial ports.

You could use them as a sinker for fishing. They would not be heavy enough for boat anchors.

My program which uses C8051F040 microcontroller needs to send data over CAN whilst simultaneously storing data in RAM temporarily. And once the ram buffer gets full, offload it onto the onchip FLASH. But when i start writing onto the FLASH after sending some data onto the CAN the program just hangs.. But without the CAN the data can be offloaded succesfully onto the RAM..
what is it that is causing the problem ?? please help
