I've developed small applications for my friends to help them in some of their tasks. However, when I gave them the exe file, there seems to be an error that pops up. One said that there was a problem in executing the code, and another doesn't have the permission to execute a web request. Most of the code samples I've found has to do with ASP. I hope someone can help or point out to me with how to code permissions or exceptions into VB .Net code. Thanks in advance.

How about posting the exception data here so we can see it?

Sorry for the late update. This is the message box that gets displayed:
"The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. The operation required the SecurityException. To grant this application the required..."
I want to allow normal users to use this program. Not sure how to go about this. I want it to be done via the code and not through giving permissions from manage users.

Normally, I use third party controls which are available from Infragistics www.infragistics.com. You could use ultrawinchart for windows and ultrawebcharts for the web development.

The following code works in VS 2005 / VB .Net, however it says myengine declaration ..... is obsolete in VS 2005. Could any one let me know the better approach to evaluate the expression in VS 2005.
Thanks
Prem
Dim sExpression As String = "1 + 1 "
Dim myengine As Microsoft.JScript.Vsa.VsaEngine =
Microsoft.JScript.Vsa.VsaEngine.CreateEngine()
Dim oResult As Object
oResult = Microsoft.JScript.Eval.JScriptEvaluate(sExpression, myengine)
MsgBox(oResult)

Hi there,
To see this control, you have to add the Microsoft web control into the toolbox dialog.
Just simply open the Customize dialog toolbox and select the control in COM Components tab (Actually it is the shdocvw.dll)

I want to write a small vb program that processes image files marked with one of the flags provided by Microsoft Digital Image. These flags (6 are provided) are stored with the jpg but apparently not as part of the PropertyList list. Does anybody know how to access these flags?

Hi there,
Basically,if you know how many bytes used to store these flags and which one is the begin byte???
if so, just simply read the image as a stream of bytes into memory...

Hi there,
Usually in .NET env, the ADO.NET technology is used to access to database. So u might take a look at what the ADO.NET is first, then try to pratice with some samples there ADO.NET

Hi! There,
Thanks for your assistance.
I've been looking for Visual Studio 6.0 from the internet to download but in vain do you have a idea where?
Secondly,am new in VB.Net, and would like to learn from those experienced persons. Would you list fo me the courses which you went through before you became a programmer upto what you're doing now? I would really appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

Why don't you move to the next generation VB.NET??? You might ask the Uncle Google to get the cracked one or contact with Microsoft to purchase...
Jkkenzie wrote: Would you list fo me the courses which you went through before you became a programmer
Actually, I just took part unit studies in my university and they didnt teach me about VB (just learn it myself... They just taught about basic concept: focus on C++, OOP, algorithm)
You will get a ton of this stuff from uncle Google VB.NET books
or this site might be good Programmer World
And post questions here if getting stuck, CPians are happy to help others
Now, I focus on ASP.NET with C# as code-behind....
Happy coding....

Hey, here's my problem. I have an application that has all the webpages locally and populates certains areas of some of the web pages with dynamic content. So far, I have a page that:
1. Get user name and password
2. Posts that to a web site that does an SQL query on a database, then if it's a good combination, redirects to a success page.
3. Application looks at the page that just loaded and redirects to the appropriate one on the local machine.
4. User clicks on the my membership page and it loads a local page.
Here's the problem. I need to pull down the membership type, how many game credits he has, and some other information that is in the database. If I were to continue using the multi-redirect method, i would have one billion seven hundred sixty seven million three thousand and four different web pages and select cases.
Right now, I'm using PHP to query the database, but I don't know how to pass down the variables the the web file pulls from the database... Please, please, please help me. I'm soo close to finally getting this application done. Thanks soo much.

I'm anything but a VB6 guru, so I hope I can expalin my problem intelligently here!
I have created a custom ActiveX user control to display the thumbnail of a jpeg image. This object, although quite crude at this point, works fine when attached directly to a form. What I'm trying to do is to display thumbnails of all the jpegs in a folder. Traversing the directory tree is simple, what I'm unable to do is to dynamically display and remove my custom user object from the screen. My original intention was to use the listview control, but that doesn't seem to be an option. Short of hardcoding the objects onto the screen, is there a control I can use to display a custom user object?
Thanks!

Hi!
I'm kinda new to VB6, and I'm taking a programming course in school for it. I have final project (a simple A/D conversion simulator) and it requires me to compute a time interval as well as the values corresponding to those time intervals. I need to eventually output these values into a table.
I've googled "VB6 creating tables" and variants of it many times, but all I get is how to create a database table using Access or some other program in VB6. I just need a simple table with 2 columns that can be scrollable.
Is this possible in VB? If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be very helpful.

You've already found what you're looking for. The datasource is going to be a recordset that you fill in with the generated data. I don't have any examples because I haven't used VB6 in the last 5 years.
All the examples you're finding are filling the recordset from a database. Don't worry about that. Create the recordset and fill it yourself with your own data.

Is there a component that I can actually put onto my forms for this table?

It's been a long time, but I seem to remember something about a MSFlexGrid.

Yes that's the control (AFAIR).
He can also populate a listbox but the FlexGrid is the father of the datagrid and therefore the more appropriate probably.

Like it says on the label.
I want to code up an add-in for internet explorer, which will have an icon on the tool bar.
How do I go about it and where can I find info

It's going to be done entirely with COM Interop, since IE wasn't written under the .NET Framework. Google is your best bet for Internet Explorer Extension[^].
