Atleast this is what I found what!!! which solved the problem, but I am not sure whether this is the exact solution.
There must be an ASP.NET Server Service running on the machine in which you are viewing your website. This service runs under ASPNET user account. So two things,
1. Check whether ASPNET user account is created on your machine.
2. Then check whether the ASP.NET Server Service is installed. This is the aspnet_wp.exe file.
If none of these is fulfilled, then uninstall .NET redist, run windows update for latest security(see the requirements link in the .NET redist download page in microsoft website) and run updates for IIS.
Then install redist again. This is how I solved it. Any other suggestions/comments?

This service is used to manage state information while running asp.net web apps. Not clear though, about the exact details of this service.
Peter Marino wrote:

this account is used by your browser to run ASP.NET apps, again I dont know the exact definition.
Also, as I am using Win2K, I found the aspnet_wp.exe running in my machine and if I kill it, then my asp.net controls will not appear. I think that should also be existing in a Windows XP machine.
Peter Marino wrote:

Go to add/remove programs and first uninstall the current Redist. (installed if any), and then just reinstall the Redist (either by downloading it from website) or if you have installed VS.NET final version then no need to worry about anything. It should take care of everything.

I've been trying to work out how to create a search for a database (say, Excel or Access??) that is achieved through two or more dropdown menus on the webpage. Basically, the visitor is required to make selections from each dropdown menu, and once selections are made they post a search. But how do you allow these various combinations of menu selections pull up the information you're after? An example of a website that achieves this is www.carquote.com.au. I simply cannot work out how to connect up the database with the website, and then in such a way that allows a search of this database (without the user making any alterations to the database).
It would be fantastic to hear from anyone with some ideas! Thank you in anticipation!!!

I am a little . Are you searching for a database? Or Are you querying some values from a database?
I went to the carquote website. I find it simple, that you keep all the car information in different tables. Then from your website dropdown menu selection, once the user clicks the find/search button, you build a query to the database using the selected values. Run the query against the database and display the result that you get back in whatever fashion you wanted to display.
Did I understand your question correctly???

Hey Omkamal!
Sorry if I'm confusing you... it's just that I'm teaching myself how to do a database, so I don't know all the proper terms to use (nor really what I'm doing!!!)!
My problems are:
- working out HOW to connect a web-page to the database
- HOW to write an SQL statement that will operate like Carquotes' multiple dropdown menus
- what sort of database I should be using, and how the user using the web-page will draw its results from this database
- and hence how to get a new web-page of results!
Basically, I'm VERY new to this stuff, and unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything on the internet that might be able to help me out on web databases. If anyone knows of useful web-pages that would be great... or otherwise a more specific answer to my questions would be even greater!!!
CHEERS!

I have created a web service on my development machine with a local IIS - it works.
I then created a web application on my development site and that worked - happy campers so far
I deployed the web service to my live IIS and that worked -
I deployed my web application to use the web service but it does not work:-
It throws a web exception when it tries reading data back from the web service,
Can you deploy web apps to other IIS's?
If you can then I have another problem and do you know how to solve it?

Ok, really simple check before I start thinking about this: Is ASP.NET (or the .NET Framework) installed on the IIS server you are deploying your web-app to?
Also, what is the specific error that is occuring when you run your web-app? Then we can help you more

Thanks,
I have installed the .NET framework on the remote IIS.
The error received was:
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 404: Object Not Found.

I had a thought that the web app was created on the development IIS and had a web reference to it so when I coppied the app it still had the web reference to the development IIS.
I have now created a new web app with a web reference to the service on the remote IIS but it cannot see it???
Am i going the right way here or is there another problem??
Thanks guys

i need to use the "alt" parmater in img by reading from db,
but i get only the first word.
<.... alt=<%=r("msg")%>

|
|

Remember to put qoutes around the string.
<.... alt="<%=r("msg")%>"
You should also check if msg contains a ", which should be replaced with " or "

I've wasted an entire day on this crap. I created a theme in the _Themes folder, and used the Preview function to see what my default.htm page should look like. It's perfect. But when I apply the theme to the project, or the page, nothing happens! I've searched through all of the InterDev documentation, but there's almost nothing there. This has got to be due to some step I'm not getting. What am I missing?

Ahem, not a real answer, but what I think you are missing is that Themes are crap and I have no idea why MS put them into Interdev.
What on God's Green Earth do you want to create your own themes for btw?

The canned ones are too awful to consider.
Paul Watson wrote:

Why is that? I saw them and decided that it would be a great way to save some time, while maintaining a consistent look throughout the site. I didn't realize that making them work at all would be far more hassle than doing the whole thing manually!

Good day!
How knows how to get the browser's window size. And one more - how to dynamicly change size of background picture.
Thank you very much.
Good luck!

Dimon007 wrote:

You can use:
window.screen.availHeight
window.screen.availWidth
to get the Windows available height and width.
To change the size of a background picture you have to change the size of it's "container". i.e. If you have set the background image of a TD then you need to change the size of the actual TD.

Sorry, you can't get the size of the window.
What you can get, is the width and height of the clientarea.
document.body.clientWidth
document.body.clientHeight
which will tell you how much space is available to your page.
You can move and resize the window using window.moveTo and window.resizeTo methods (and window.moveBy and window.resizeBy).
And one more - how to dynamicly change size of background picture.
You can't resize background images.
You'll need different images in different resolutions.

'Operation must use an updateable query. '
That's what I get whenever I try and run an INSERT INTO statement from an ASP file. I'm using IIS 4.0 and Access 2000. The weirdest thing is that I've had it working before and I can't remember changing anything! I also get this error when I upload my site to my webspace.
I thought that maybe it means I have to use UPDATE, but that wouldn't create a new record, would it? I really stuck for any ideas, any help would be appreciated.

The 'Operation must use an updateable query. ' usually means that the IUSR_xxx (anonymous account) doesn't have sufficient rights in the folder where the mdb-file resides.
The user needs write, change and delete rights for locks and changes to the mdb file.

Once you get an answer from your web service, it comes out as XML.
How do I get it into a backend so i can put it in a web viewable interface?
ie. how do i get the answer onto a page or how can i get a stylesheet or do i have to call the stylesheet myself??
