The ASP.NET forum is the right place for this.
momoo wrote: I using .ascx file to design it.
That's a control, which needs embedding on a page to be displayed.
momoo wrote: This is ascx (under html view).
I can't see how writing the text is going to help you - you need to add some sort of control that is databound ( can tell which object it's working on ) and that redirects you to another page.

Hi,
I have a dropdown box and when a value is selected in that, a javascript function is called which takes the values into a variable and that is passed to the same asp page using window.location='svr_temp.asp?Campus=' +Campus
This variale is caught be request.querystring and that is used in executing a sql query whose result is populated into textbox.But, thre are few probs in this.
For the first time when i select something in dropdownbox nothing is happening in the page and from the second time the value is run against query and the result is displayed in the textbox....but immediately the page is reloading again and all the data in the textbox is lost............please help me in this...........same problem is occuring even if i use document.form.action methos instead of window.location.................
Here is the code.....
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
sub showform
@import "../inc/uopstu.css";
<title>SVR StartDate Selection
Select a Campus Name
<% Do While NOT MyRS1.EOF %>
"><%= MyRs1("CampusName")%>
<% MyRS1.MoveNext
loop %>
<%
if request.querystring("Campus") <> "" then
'response.Write("hi")
'response.End
MYSQL2="Select distinct substring(collector_name,13,5) AS Code from svr_compare where substring(collector_name,1,4)= (select Collector_Code from CampCollCode where Division='"& request.QueryString("Campus")& "')"
Set MyRs2=MyConn.Execute(MySQL2)
Dim str
str=MyRS2("Code")
MyRS2.MoveNext
Do While NOT MyRS2.EOF
str=str & "," & MyRS2("Code")

'MyRs.Close
'Set MyRs = Nothing
'Set MyConn = Nothing

Quick question - how come when using xmlhttprequest object to authenticate a user, when I try to redirect the user who successfully authenticated, to another page by using response.redirect fails?

Hi,
Got a new copy of VS2005, and want to create some asp.net pages using a Master Page Template and content place holders. Evertime I add a ContentPlaceHolder, they are just stacked, and I can not have one ContentPlaceHolder next to another, like all the example show.
I am sure I am not doing something rigt.
Anyone have any ideas?

Strange. The ContentPlaceHolder is just another control on the page. Can't you just put them in a table like so?
<%@ Master %>
<title>Simple Master Page
<asp:contentplaceholder
="" id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">
| <asp:contentplaceholder
="" id="ContentPlaceHolder2" runat="server">

Hi,
I'm new to javascript. I want to know that is it possible to place controls on the webpage dynamically from javascript function.
Actually, in ASP.net, we can place controls on webpage on server side. Is it possible to place acontrol like textbox on the webpage in javascript function. If yes, please say how?

Yes, it is.
Example: (not tested)
var obj = document.createElement('input');<br />
obj.type = 'text';<br />
obj.id = 'fldName';<br />
obj.name = 'fldName';<br />
obj.value = 'Default name';<br />
document.getElementById('TargetElement').appendChild(obj);

hi.
I would recommend refraining from granting access to a page in your windows directory..
if the page is just a plain .html page then rather copy it to your web project folder
the try the following..
<br />
function opener()<br />
{<br />
var mywin = window.open('./searchResult.html','mywindow');<br />
}<br />
hope this helps

I have this page with 2 dropdownlists.
When the page loads. the first dropdownlist is popoulated. When you select which value you want in the first ddl the page is posted back and retrieves the values for the second dropdownlist.
the second ddl uses a stored_proc to populate it. what i wanted to know is:
1. Is it possible to set the ddl.datatextfield to 2 pieces of info taken from the database say a first name and lastname?
any help with this is much appreciated.
Keep coding
|
|
|
|

no, but you can always return the two pieces of info as one - in a SQL statement you would use something like:
select firstname+' '+lastname as personname from...
then set your dropdownlist datatextfield = personname
Hope this helps

Hiya all.
I don't know if this is the proper place to post this, but here
goes....
I'm trying to upload some files to a streaming server. All files but
one seems to work when being streamed, but with one - just one - I get
a "server is to busy..." error, and I can't for the love of me figure
out why.
Now, if the server was indeed to busy, shouldn't all file be
unstreamable, and seeing as it is only this one file - I'd think the
file perhaps is corrupt - however, I can play it locallly. Can the file
still be corrupt and playable locally while being unstreamable?
Any advice on where to start debugging this problem?
With regards
Alsvha

What kind of streaming server are you using? What kind of media are you uploading?
Do you get the error when you try to upload the file or when you try to access the uploaded file?

The server(s) are using Windows Media Services 9.0 - I'd take it that is the streaming server (this is my first dabble into streams, and not something I've done prior, but suddnely it fell upon me to do it)
The files are ordinary *.wmv, which shouldn't be any wierd codec or similar, plus I can play them locally and remote on the server (logging in via proxy)
No problems uploading the file either.
It is just when I go in via mms://IP/File that I get the server not availble or to busy - and just for that one file.
There are larger files I can stream withouth problems, except this particular one.
I'd supply the link, but unfortunally it is a movie which isn't to be published yet as it is part of a large advertisment campaign.
I tried uploading it to the second server (two stream servers behind two webservers in a load balancing thingy) - and that also have problems (to busy/not availble) with the stream.
Is it possible for a file to be corrupt in the manner where it can't be streamed but still can be played "locally"?

A media file can be pretty broken and still be playable locally. Check that the entire file got uploaded. If possible check the integrity of the original file. The media player will play a broken file, but video editing programs and such should at least give you a warning if the file is incomplete.
If the file is intact, it sounds unlikely that it's the contents of the file that is the cause of the error. Does the file have exactly the same file extension? No unusual characters in the file name?

Thanks for the feedback - I take it the file is corrupt and took the info up with the ad.agency, and after some tries I finally got a high res file which could be streamed withouth problems.
I take it something had gone wrong in their production of the media file.
I was just perplexed by the error message I got combined with the fact that the file played locally, which initially didn't indicate to me the file itself was the problem

There are navigator bars out there that have been developed for ASP .NET 1.1. They generally use a JavaScript implementation to display fly-out menus.
http://aspalliance.com/652#Page7
Take a look at category 6.
However, with ASP .NET 2.0, Microsoft has introduced a fully featured menu control which should meet your needs - if you're able to upgrade.
