Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of an article or some sort of code snippet that could help me with my problem. I have a custom combo box that inherits from the vs.net toolbox combobox. I am needing my combobox to set the selected index to -1 when the user either types a value that is not in the list, or deletes the text in the combobox making the value = "". I have tried to set the selected index in the key up event by calling a function that sets the selected index = -1 twice eg. comb.selectedIndex = -1 (newline) comb.selectedIndex = -1. This doesn't seem to work very well. I have attempted to search through the articles on codeproject with no luck finding any of the combobox articles that set the selected index to -1. They all seem to set the index = 0. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

What do you mean by "alive"? If I understand this correctly, there's not way to do this.

In VB, there is a hidden variable <event name="">Event that you can check.
e.g., if an event is "foo", you can code:
If Not fooEvent Is Nothing Then

I'm wondering what he means by "active". Event will tell you if it's wired up, but "active"? What does that mean?

This is probably a simple question, but for some reason (maybe Monday morning fog, or too many Christmas goodies in the conference room to distract me from thinking) but I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I have a textbox on a Windows form, and the client is supposed to enter a date in this textbox. The information is then posted via a stored procedure into a SQL table in a column that is formatted datetime.
You would think this is simple, but even when I put a valid date like 11/11/99 in the text box, when it executes the following code I get the message 'Cast from string "System.Windows.Forms.TextBox, Te" to type 'Date' is not valid.'.
cmdPost.Parameters("@BirthDate").Value = frmEx.tbxDOB.ToString
Even if I change the code to the example below, I get the same error.
cmdPost.Parameters("@BirthDate").Value = CDate(frmEx.tbxDOB.ToString).ToShortDateString
I know the answer is something simple, and after a few more glasses of egg nog, maybe I'll figure it out, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate your input.
Thanks

try this format date
example:
frmEx.tbxDOB.text = "1999.11.11" or
frmEx.tbxDOB.Text = "2005.12.19"
cmdPost.Parameters("@BirthDate").Value = frmEx.tbxDOB.Text.ToString
|
|
|
|
|
If I use this format I get the following error
The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is a unknown word starting at index 0.

Dim data As New Date
data = Me.TextBox1.Text
MessageBox.Show(data)
'format date i added in textbox is 19.12.2005
in windows form works fine

Thanks for your help. I know what happened. I was using ...tostring, and should have used ...text.
I knew it was simple. Thanks for your time.

What is the value of frmEx.tbxDOB.ToString when it is converted to a date?
|
|
|
|
|
The value of frmEx.tbxDOB.ToString is
'System.Windows.Forms.Texbox, Text: 11/11/05.
The value of frmEx.tbxDOB.Text is '11/11/05'.

Hey All
I am Stuck in a problem
I have an application that generates the Barcode
When I am printing that with the laser printer , Then That printed barcode is readble through the Scanner
But when I am printing it with the Label Printer(USed to print small badge cards, Address labels etc.) then that printed barcode (printed by label printer) is not readable by the barcode scanner
Can you give me the direction Why is it so.
Thanks for this help

Does it look different to the human eye? (stretched, etc.)
If not then your ink may not be compatible - i.e. the scanner has a single light wavelength and maybe the difference between bars and spaces in your ink in that wavelength is not sufficient.

Thanks for this prompt reply(really your answer is urgent for me)
I can't understand what is problem
That Printer also has a software that also generates sample Barcodes
& those printed barcodes (By label printer) are readable by that scanner
But the barcodes generated by my application & printed by label printer is not readable by that scanner.
But the barcodes generated by my application & printed by Laser printer is readable by that scanner.
That's why I am not getting the actual problem
what it is????
thanks & regards

If your barcode is getting streched left and right (I'm assuming a Code 39 or 128 barcode or something similar here) at all, then it won't read properly. Print a sample barcode on the printer that prints the working barcode and on the card printer (exact same barcode!) and measure the two. The length of the barcode should match exactly. If not, there's your problem.

Yes I am using the Code 128 B BarCode symbology .
And also ,The Barcode printed by Label printer are somewhat different from the barcode printed by the laser printer.
That's why my scanner reads the barcode printed by the laser printer
but can't read the barcode printed by the label printer.
Now , I can't understand with what the exact problem is :
1. with barcode
2. With Label printer.
3. or Sacnner
Although all three are working properly individually.
Plz repy me as soon as possible for You
Thanks a bunch in advance.
