I keep hearing people say to use Remoting to send data/messages between two processes/programs/whatever yet everything I've seen talks about running a routine in the server. Nobody talks about how to get the server to respond to a message.
In other words - you have an app that wants to send a message to another app saying 'There's new data available for you.' With remoting you can call a routine on the server but then how does the server know that there's been a change? It seems to me like the only thing you are doing is calling a remote routine but it doesn't provide communication with the host; the routine is segregated from the host.
Am I reading this wrong?

The following code works just fine on my "test" form, but when i put the code in the REAL application i get a selection rectangle, rather than the nice text color change i get with this code:
richTextBox1.AppendText("This" + System.Environment.NewLine);
richTextBox1.AppendText("seems" + System.Environment.NewLine);
richTextBox1.AppendText("to" + System.Environment.NewLine);
richTextBox1.AppendText("work." + System.Environment.NewLine);
string mySearchLetters = textBox1.Text;
int index = richTextBox1.Find(mySearchLetters);
label1.Text = mySearchLetters + " was found in pos " + index.ToString();
if (index >= 0)
richTextBox1.SelectionColor = System.Drawing.Color.Orange;
I'm thinking that maybe there is a "property" set on the real application that prevents this code from working but i can not find it. i compare the control properties, line-for-line and they seem to be identical.
Any ideas?

I take it your trying to highlight the position and length of the string you typed in?
This code won't work because your not changing the .SelectStart and .SelectionLength properties to actually select the string you want to change with .SelectionColor.
richTextBox1.SelectionStart = pos;
richTextBox1.SelectionLength = mySearchLetters.Length;
richTextBox1.SelectionColor = Color.Orange;

It turns out the solution was even simpler .. there WAS a property that was messing things up. All i had to do was set HideSelection to true !!!
The pretty orange text was hidden under the selection rectangle ... go figure ... lol.
Thanks for responding, Dave.

yeah, either I'm stupid (which is possible) or that's not quite what I'm after. It's still not rendering a clickable link on a web page.

string withQuotes = "Hello \"World\""<br />
Console.WriteLine(withQuotes)

Escape the quotation mark with the \ character:
string link = "<a href=\"www.codeproject.com\">";
Or use an @-delimited string and double qoutation marks:
string link = @"<a href=""www.codeproject.com"">";

Hi,
We have created around 100 forms in VS.Net 2003. Just added controls to form for creating the flow of project. Now we have decided to work in Beta 2 and want to use all the forms created in 2003. Please suggest some easy way for converting the 2003 forms into 2005 forms.(There is an extra Designer.cs class in Beta 2)

Hi Friends
I want to get All Columns Description From sample Table taht i created it in SqlServer Database. I used below code and it worked, but i dont know why it doesn't work now ?
<br />
string strSqlSELECT = "SELECT o.id AS 'ObjectID', " +<br />
"CAST(o.Name AS varchar(25)) AS 'TableName', " +<br />
"CAST(c.Name AS varchar(25)) AS 'ColumnName', " +<br />
"CAST(p.Value AS varchar(50)) AS 'Description', " +<br />
"Type = CASE WHEN p.Type=3 THEN 'Table' WHEN p.Type=4 THEN 'Column' ELSE 'UNKNOWN' END " +<br />
"FROM dbo.sysobjects o " +<br />
"INNER JOIN dbo.sysproperties p" +<br />
" ON o.id = p.id " +<br />
"INNER JOIN dbo.syscolumns c " +<br />
" ON p.smallid = c.colorder " +<br />
"WHERE o.id = c.id " +<br />
"AND p.type = 4 " +<br />
"ORDER BY o.id, o.Name, p.smallid" ;<br />
<br />
sqlDataAdapter sqlDA = new sqlDataAdapter (strSqlSELECT,Connection) ;<br />
sqlDA.fill (myDataSet) ;<br />
<br />
for (int i=0;i<myDataSet.Tables[0].Rows.Count;i++)<br />
MessageBox.Show (myDataSet.Tables[0].Rows[i][3].ToString()) ;<br />

Standard question #1:
What do you mean by "not working"?

At running i got an error that means DataSet couldn't fill successfully.
I think strSqlSELECT is not correct and may be corrupted.
I want another SELECT Query to retrive Column Description from Table.
I want to set my DataGrid's Column Header to Tables Column's Description.
Please Help Me.

|
|
|
What error message did you get?
From your description it's impossible to say what's wrong, it could just as well be the connection that is faulty as the query. In that case it doesn't matter what query you use.

Have you set up the connection object properly?
I tried to execute your query in query analyzer. It runs just fine, but it doesn't return anything. There is only a few of my databases that has anything in the sysproperties table, and no records with type=4.
