Hi every one,
I am trying to develop a windows application which will run on touch screen LCD monitor.
but the touch screen requires bigger option button, check boxes, tab pages, scroll bars etc. in such a way that the enduser select the controls using his finger.
How can i adapt the .net windows controls for the touch screen application (like changing size, graphics etc.,)?
or is there any special controls available for touch screen in .net?
or is there any tool available to convert the normal controls to touch screen controls??
Please help...
Thanks & Regards,
Srini

Is lowering the screen resolution an option? That would make everything on the screen larger.

Hello.
I am attempting to display the contents of a Date/Time column from an Access database table in my DataGrid Control in VB.NET
The DataGrid control (ReportGrid) is bound to a DataSet, which is filled using a DataAdapter with the data stored in a recordset (snippets are given below)
Public reportDA As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Public reportDS As New DataSet
Public GridReport As New ADODB.Recordset
GridReport.Open(SQLtxt, DBConnection, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenStatic, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockReadOnly)
reportDA.Fill(reportDS, GridReport, "Report")
ReportGrid.SetDataBinding(reportDS, "Report")
The "Report" table held within the DataSet contains several columns. I am able to display the 'Date' column within the DataGrid but the 'Time' column displays the information in a Date Format:
Original Database table displays: 10:16:51
DataGrid Control table displays: 30/12/1899 (For any time)
I have tried to directly copy the contents of the Access table using the coding below but with no success:
GridReport.MoveFirst()
For i = 0 To GridReport.RecordCount - 1
reportDS.Tables("Report").Rows(i).Item("Time") = GridReport.Fields("Time").Value
GridReport.MoveNext()
Next
Any help would be most appreciated.

Your mixing your use of two different sets of database objects. You should NOT be using ADODB objects with the .NET OleDb classes. This is probably what's causing your date/time translation issue. You should be using OleDbConnection and OleDbCommand objects in stead of ADODB junk.

Thank you. I will give it a try. I only used ADODB because the documentation said it was also possible to use recordsets to fill the DataSet.

I see the code to convert a binary user SID to String, but it's in C++, can someone help me to do this in vb.net. I only need to convert the SID to string.
Thanks.

In what form do you have the SID in your VB.NET code? Without that starting point, it's pretty difficult to tell you, with any accuracy, how to convert it to a string. But, I would image that String.Format or .ToString would be used.

Hi,
I need a vb.net code for listing the Hardwares/softwares installed in PCs in a network.

So write it. Noone here is going to do it for you.
You'll need code to scan your network, either by scanning an IP address reange, or by enumerating the machine in the domain.
You'll contact each of these machines using WMI (System.Management namespace), and run the appropriate WQL queries to return the Products installed and also enumerate the hardware on each machine.
You'll also have to create a database to hold all this information.

It's been years since I used it, but I don't think you can have multiple fonts in the FLEXGRID, not flax.

I would advice you to use a List View Control for what ever you are doing. Its much easier and good to use. Cya. All the Best.

The reason you should do it in C, is because C requires it. The reason not to do it otherwise is because it makes your code harder to read, and harder to debug. You should read 'Code Complete' to get more insight into good code style, it's an excellent book.
But as a starter - the code posted created a bunch of uninitialised variables, then proceeded to give them all values. How is that useful ? He could have done the same in half the lines, thus increasing readability, and making sure that no variables existed without being given the values you wanted them to start with.

it wasn't my code
I tend to declare and initialise all my variables at the top of my procedure\functions, so that I know where they all are. It really isn't a big issue because I try and keep my procedures pretty small, but I like having them at the top. I can't justify it which is why I found your statement that it shouldn't be done that way interesting
Thanks for the book recommendation. I will look into it

Sorry, I worked that out later
Keeping your functions small is another recommendation from the book, actually. You'll probably find, as I did, that most things it recommends, you do, but it's worthwhile just to think about the reasons why.

i want to convert a JPG image to BMP
i used this way:
dim BMPImage as new System.Drawing.Bitmap(JPGImageName)
BMPImage.Save(JPGImageName,System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Bmp)
but an exception come up and say: "A generic error occured in GDI+"
so what is the problem?
and Should i work with XML to solve this problem?

It's failing because you're trying to save the file using the same name that you loaded it from. Since the file is locked, the save won't work. Try changing the filename you want to save it to.
Dim srcImage As New Bitmap(JpgImageName)
srcImage.Save(someOtherFilename, ImageFormat.Bmp)
