Does anyone know how to capture webcam images using avicap32.dll and not save the images to the clipboard. I would like to be able to actually stream the images 'into' the a picture box or any other control capable of holding an image, and then retrieve an image at any given time by way of the Image property. I do not want to use the clipboard because in my app a user may be using it for other things such as text editing, etc.. I have used DirectShow but avicap32.dll in my case would be better suited.
Any help at all would be appreciated.

My whole post was about avoiding the clipboard, when reading the documentation, it says there are alternatives to the clipboard, but i have yet to make any of them work.
Since my app should allow for text editing in other areas of the app, I do not want to use the clipboard, for this reason...
I was using the clipboard to start, but then when testing, i realized that I was losing some stuff that I had copied and had been replaced with an image.
So then I decided as a workaround to right before I save the image to clipboard, I would copy the contents in the clipboard to memory, then send the image to it, retrieve the image back, then reset the contents of the clipboard back to its original contents. Most of the testing I did like this worked ok, but every now and then, the contents would get mixed up and where it should be saving an image it was saving text that was copied into the clipboard and vice versa.
The documentation states that you can save it to some sort of an independant bitmap, but I do know how to go about doing that.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the link, but I had already found that and it like many others use the clipboard for capturing still shots. For example, that articles code for the function to capture an image uses...
'---copy the image to the clipboard---
SendMessage(hWnd, WM_CAP_EDIT_COPY, 0, 0)
'---retrieve the image from clipboard and convert it
' to the bitmap format
data = Clipboard.GetDataObject()
I have found an alternative to that scheme but now I am having problems forcing that window to paint it self or atleast think it is painted when it is hidded, as sometimes i get a black capture image.

Your request does not make any sense. Perhaps it would be better if you split it up to use many sentences instead of one very long sentence.

My comp is a Product based company,i have developed a project in VB.NET,i need to include my project in our existing product.I dont have that much space to include .NET Framework into the package. Is't sufficient that only with the supporting DLL's to run the project,so that no need to include .NET framwork inside the package

I really don't know where some of you guys who ask such questions get the idea that you can take short cuts like this
You have developed a program in VB.NET - right? VB.NET uses the .NET Framework - right? The 'supporting DLLs' ARE the framework - right? Ergo you need the .NET Framework on the client machines - right?!
If it is not already installed, you need to get the user to somehow install it - whether you include this in your distributable package or not (if permissable by your Microsoft agreement) or let the user download it from Microsoft is irrelevant. You MUST have the framework to run your program.

What kind of media that you are going to distribute? CD-ROM or post on the web? If you distribute via the CDROM and the size is not enough then, distribute it into 2 CDROM and make your installation process require for disk 1 and disk 2.

Hi -
I am currently developing a vb.net application (product) that will have mulitple end customers. I would like to add each customer's icon to the splash screen, but I do not want to recompile the application for each customer. Is there a "best practice" method of doing something like this?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or ideas!

I'm sorry...I probably didn't explain it clearly.
The splash screen has the customer's icon on it. Each version or flavor of the application is customized for the particular customer by putting their logo on the screen. It's only one logo and one customer per splash screen. If there are 10 ultimate customers, I don't want to have 10 splash screens. I would like to be able to have a setting that would cause the appropriate logo to be shown on the screen. I guess I am thinking along the lines of how localization is done. Maybe I am way off here, in which case I'd appreciate someone bringing me back to reality
Thanks to anyone/everyone who takes the time to reply...I appreciate it!

You don't have to recompile it. All you need to do is load the image from a file and put it in a picture box. You could even have this as a configuration option. If the option is not present, just show a default picture.

Would you suggest putting the image(s) in a resource file? Would the configuration option (i.e. which customer is this) go in the app.config?
Do you think there's a more object-oriented or "best practice" way of doing this?
Nevertheless, I like your previous advice...thank you!

If you put the images in a resource file, you'll have to either recompile the app each time you change the customer and supplies that customers resource file.
Ummmmm.....I get the feeling you're thinking about putting all of your customer's logos in the same resource file and loading the image based on the customer that has it. DO NOT DO THIS! Logo images are Copyrighted and Trademarked and you're more than likely violating the terms of using those images. Consult with your customers first before even thinking of do this. Besides, companies change their logos from time to time. In order to change the logo after this, you'ld have to recompile the app with the new image. And the customer will probably DEMAND you do it.
You'll be much better off just loading the image from a customer supplied file. Let the customer customize their copy of the app. You'll avoid both a support nightmare and a legal mess doing it this way.

Im getting a MissingManifestResourceException error while im debugging my project. It has something to do with the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture
What is that suppose to mean. Im using an external library in my projetc an this is the Exception thats popping up. What do i have to do to get rid of this problem??
This is the Error that i get in Visual Studio .NET 2005:
Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "en-US.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "BTSharp" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed.
Plz help me!! Thanx!!

Start Googling for the error message you're getting. You can try this[^] out first though...

I feel like a total idiot, but I have spent way to long on this....
I have a Simple DLL
Project Name: MyDLL.DLL
Class Name: clsTest
One Sub: Public Sub TESTING()
I tried to register it the old fashion way of REGSVR32 and I just get an error
REGASM just does an Assembly Registry which doesn't help me.
I can not use the Browse DLL from the application that I would like to use my DLL as it is not supported.
FYI, I can browse and use the new DLL in a VB.NET Application, but that doesn't help either.
What I need is to be able to select MyDLL.DLL as a Registered COM Object, like in good old VB6...
What am I missing.........................
Thanks,
J.

FYI, the reason I need to register the .NET DLL as a COM is so we are able to use it in Navision.
