Not sure what your trying to accomplish here but I have been able to use all sorts of images (bitmaps, jpeg, gif....) in my apps. The only image that I'd like to see more support on is the Targa image.

I can't remember the path off the top of my head, but they're in \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Common7. Ahhhh screw it, just search the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET folder for Common and you'll find the images in there.

If your component requires a reference to VBA, then your code using that component will automatically have the same reference. You can't turn it off.

I developed a Form that I want to be able to use in any of my projects. How can I create a dll with this form? Or is there a way to create a file with just this form in it that can be used in other projects?
Thanks for any help.

Hi dude, i hope i can help you, im not an expert but ive been working with dlls for the last days
1: create a windows controllibrary project
2:In the defaul control, change to codeview and inherit it from form
CODE:
Public Class UserControl1
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
End Class
3:Chage back to designview, the control must be now a form
4: Do anything you need with that form
5:Compile it
6:On the other project (from where u want to use it), add a reference to the control you just created(rootofthecontrol\bin\release\nameofyourlibrary)
7: on the new project, change to codeview and change the defaul form to inherit from your custom form (inherits from nameofyourlibrary.yourcustomform)
I think it should work
I hope you can do what you need

I have converted my first project to VS 2005 and I have 32 warnings that all say this:
Access of shared member, constant member, enum member or nested type through an instance; qualifying expression will not be evaluated.
I have variables setup as Friend Shared so I can use them throughout my project. Maybe I need to put these variables in a module to get away from this error?
Can someone give me a better explanation of what this error really means?
Confused?

What it's effectively saying is that you no longer need to use an instance of many of the objects provided in the framework.
Eg:
Instead of using
Dim fFile as system.io.file
bVal = fFile.exists("c:\mytextfile.text")
you should instead use
bVal = system.io.file.exists("c:\mytextfile.text")
Basically you no longer need to create an instance to be able to use the functions that would normally be tied to that instance.

One line of code that I'm receiving this error is:
Dim diff As TimeSpan = start.op_Subtraction(System.DateTime.Now, start)
It worked fine in VS2003, but now I get this error. What do you suggest I change for this one?
Another line that is getting this warning is:
Me.cbxEEName.Cursor.Show
And finally another example is what I mentioned in my original message, I have a variable setup in one class (clsSqlCalls) as friend shared:
Friend Shared BeneficiaryDataset As DataSet
and I reference it in another class:
Dim clsSQL As New clsSQLCalls<br />
If clsSQL.BeneficiaryDataset.HasChanges Then
You answered this question. I replaced the code with:
If clsSQLCalls.BeneficiaryDataset.HasChanges Then
and it worked... Thanks.
Any suggestions on the first two examples of code?

One thing to be clear about is that you are not getting error messages - you are getting warnings. Your code should compile and run (assuming it works elsewhere!) regardless of this, the compiler is just informing you about ways to improve the syntax of your code.
Can you let me know what 'start' is defined as, and also I assume that cnxEEName is a control on your form of some description?
|
|
|
|
|
Yes, you're right, they are warnings, and my code was working fine in 2003, but is working less than perfect in 2005. I'm tackling the warnings hoping the application will work the way it originally did.
Here is how start is defined:
Dim start As DateTime = System.DateTime.Now
Also cbxEEName is a combobox on one of the forms in this application.
I appreciate your feedback.

You realise that the intellisense box will actually suggest what you need to replace these with to get rid of the warning? In this case:
dim start as DateTime<br />
dim diff as TimeSpan = system.DateTime.op_subtraction(system.DateTime.Now, start)
You still need the definition of start, as you are actually using the instance in the function, not just using it to gain access to the function.
For the second:
windows.forms.cursor.show()
I'm not sure if this is what you're trying to do here, but this is recommended substitution for the code you provided.

Thanks!! With your help I've taken my 32 warnings down to 6, and I'll keep working on the 6. Many more projects to convert up, but at least I have an idea how to figure out some of these warnings.
What is confusing is Microsoft wanted us to create an instance for everything, now they warn you that it isn't a good idea.
Thanks again!

I currently have a usercontrol that is a large rectangular panel. On this usercontrol I have a series of usercontrols that are all smaller rectangles running horizontally. The smaller usercontrols run off the bottom of the panel and hence the panel is scrollable. This is by design.
Each of the smaller usercontrols has a background image. When the panel is scrolled, the rendering of the smaller usercontrols is slow and blurred, only settling back to normal once the scrolling has stopped.
Am I just asking too much by expecting it to render smoothly in mid-scroll, or can I improve matters by forcing repainting more frequently while the scrolling occurs?
I am using VB .NET with VS2005.
Thanks for any assistance, and please let me know if I haven't provided sufficient detail.

Hello EveryBuddy,
Small Query :- can i create a variable name by concantenation of two or more strings in VB.NET, such as we create a particular message by using variables using operator '&'?
Thanks for ur replies in advance...............
|
|
|
|

Yes, of course you can create a variable name, but it's harder to use it.
Every time someone asks something like this, it's because that person thinks that using dynamic variable names is the best way to solve a problem.
It never is.
What is it that you are trying to do?
And are you using VB or VB.NET?

As i previously mentioned i wnt to use it in VB.NET. I want to use it to show & hide legends for chart control. other option is to use "SELECT CASE" function which becomes too tedious to use.i dont wnt to use chart's original legends since they r too small to see. There r many other places where i can use dynamic variable names.
Dynamic variable names is very useful for me at this particular moment hence i asked this question...............
|
|
|
|
|
Sorry, didn't see that VB.NET.
Dynamic variables names is a bad idea, especially in compiled code. Even if it's possible using reflection to access the variables, there are so much overhead that the simplicity that you are looking for is lost.
If you want to access something by name, put it some kind of collection, like a HashTable or a ListDictionary.

Hi guys, i've an execution error when i use a dll from VB in c++. I've debugged the code and i've seen that the problem is when a callback function is returning...the point is that this callback function only drop down when is called from one of the dll's functions, but is working succesfully with the rest of them.
The functions of de dll are defined like this:
typedef void __stdcall (*funcion_crear)(char*,int,char*);
typedef void __stdcall (*funcion_configurar)(int,int,int,int,int);
typedef void __stdcall (*funcion_cargar)(char*);
typedef void __stdcall (*funcion_guardar)(char*);
typedef int __stdcall (*funcion_entrenar)(char*,char*);
typedef void __stdcall (*funcion_evaluar)(char*);
typedef void __stdcall (*CallVBFunctionStringPtr)(int);
typedef void __stdcall (*CallVBFunctionReportPerformancePtr)(int);
typedef void __stdcall (*CallVBFunctionClassificationResultPtr)(int);
funcion_crear fcrear;
funcion_configurar fconfig;
funcion_entrenar fentrenar;
funcion_evaluar fevaluar;
funcion_guardar fguardar;
funcion_cargar fcargar;
CallVBFunctionStringPtr callstring;
CallVBFunctionReportPerformancePtr callperformance;
CallVBFunctionClassificationResultPtr callresult;
Then, the external callback functions (CallVBxxx) are implemented with this three functions:
void __stdcall fCString (char* cadena,int longitud)
{
}
void __stdcall fCReportPerformance (char* cadenaestado,int longitud,int estado)
{
}
void __stdcall fCResult (int indice_clase)
{
Form1->resultado_RNA=indice_clase;
}
and the funcions are loaded from the main form like this:
fconfig=(funcion_configurar)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"ConfigureParameters"));
fcrear=(funcion_crear)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"create_net"));
fentrenar=(funcion_entrenar)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"train_net"));
fevaluar=(funcion_evaluar)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"test_net_singlevector"));
fguardar=(funcion_guardar)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"save_net"));
fcargar=(funcion_cargar)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"load_net"));
callstring=(CallVBFunctionStringPtr)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"CallVBFunctionStringPtr"));
callperformance=(CallVBFunctionReportPerformancePtr)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"CallVBFunctionReportPerformancePtr"));
callresult=(CallVBFunctionClassificationResultPtr)(GetProcAddress(libreria,"CallVBFunctionClassificationResultPtr"));
if ((callstring==NULL) || (callperformance==NULL) || (callresult==NULL)) ShowMessage("cagada");
callstring(int(&(fCString)));
callperformance(int(&(fCReportPerformance)));
callresult(int(&(fCResult)));
The only function that is dropping down is fevaluar, and the problem is when fCString callfuction is returning...
Can Somebody help me????
thank you very much
Best Regards.
