We can get a DEFAULT numeric value using session.lcid representing a location. My question is this that IS THIS NUMERIC VALUE REPRESENTS SERVER LOCATION OR CLIENT LOCATION???????.e.g
response.write(session.lcid)
now server location printed or client location printed|??????????
|
|
|
|
|
Neither. It's not a location, it's a locale.
LCID is the locale that is used to determine what kind of formatting should be used when converting numbers, dates and currency values into strings. The default value for LCID is taken from the server settings, or the settings from some user account in the server (differs a bit depending on the version of IIS).
I think that your question mark key is a bit sticky... and watch out for that caps lock, it's really irritating to have to read upper case text.

Is there a way to write an ASP page. that download the file from another server. into my webserver.
What I was to do, is to use the webservers bandwi... to download the file and then send the file via e-mail.
So the page should take the url and send file on that url to some e-mail.
The e-mail part is fine. the problem is downloading the file on the server side.
Somebody help.

I created a webpage with the linked css as an ASP file.
Reason I did this is that I wanted to define attributes as variables.
So that I can change then at only one place.
Example was main font-size; I use that on the body{...} and also on the table{...}.
I works fine. I was just wondering how it affects the actual advantages of css as file.

It doesn't work well at all. There are two possible scenarios:
1. The file is cached. This has the effect that the asp code is only run once, and any change you make will take days to appear for all users, as they are looking at the cached file.
2. The file is not cached. This has the effect that the browser will request the file every time, increasing the loading time and the server traffic.
In most cases the file is cached, even if you try to make the browser not to cache it.
Put the styles that you want to be dynamic in a style tag on the page instead of in the css file. This both gives you dynamic styles, and the advantage of css file caching.
Tip: You can have complementing specification for the same styles in the page and in the css file. Example:
In the css file:
body { background: #fff; color: #000; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; }
In the page:
body { font-size 11px; }
-- modified at 4:51 Friday 10th February, 2006
And I almost forgot:
Some browsers (Opera if I recall correctly) doesn't even allow asp files to be used as css files.

Actually I don't want styles to be dynamic.
It just the once in a while I might want to change the theme or colors.
So I would prefare changing attribute at one place.
So it would be fine is the file can be cached at all time just like the normal css file.

Do we have a component which creates a data grid which can be categorised ie some sort of hierarchical data can be put in some columns and the rest of the columns shows the rest of the data relevant to the hierarchy opened.

Hi,
I have got three columns in a datagrid:-
1.A simple databound column with text in it.
2.A Template Column containing LinkButton(Clicking on this opens a pop up window).
3.A Button Column containing a select button (Clicking on this redirects to other page)
When I click on the Link button in the second column pop up window opens, after closing it I click on select in the third column it directs me to other page clicking on the back button on IE directs me to the previous screen but the same pop up also opens up(one which i closed before clicking on the third column select button).
Is there any solution to prevent opening this pop up window?
Any pointer to this problem will be of great help.
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
Can you point me to a Perl replacement for mailform.cgi? A site that I built 6 years ago uses that scripot, and is apparently being exploited.
Thank you,

You can't use Microsoft ASP with Apache. If you want to use ASP with Apache you need a thirt party alternative, like Sun Java System Active Server Pages[^].

Hi
I'm running a WebService server written in C# using IIS6.
The server as it's own pool.
When I try to run multiple servers (each in a different pool) everything run fine but the process name is w3wp.exe for all the processes.
having all the processes with the same name makes it harded to debug and maintain the whole system (especialy when there are 15+ servers running).
Is there a way to change the name of the w3wp.exe process ?
thanks.
Gilad.

You don't mention what platform you are using. This forum is for any generic web development so as far as we know you could be using PHP or Perl as opposed to ASP or ASP.NET which are more commonly used by people on this site. If you are connecting from one server to yours, it would also depend on what that server could handle. If it can do FTP (and security is not an issue), then it's really easy. However, if you are stuck with using HTTP, you will need to create a web form that uses a File control. Then you will need to save the file on the backend (e.g. platform mentioned above) when the form is submitted. There are tutorials out there on how to do this regardless of platform.
I hope that helps, but if you clarify what you need, then I can give you more details.

Yes, this is exactly what I need. I need to use HTTP (with ASP.NET).
I need a few examples that will show me to create a web form which will allow me to receive the XML file and also post a success message back to the sender (using HTTP post).
Please provide me some samples and direct me to some examples. I really appreciate your help in this.

If you do a google search you'll find a lot of tutorials on this subject. Here is one I just found by doing just that: http://www.15seconds.com/issue/010504.htm

I think you can use the "locale identifier" for this purpose.
