hi everyone,
I would need to get access to third party snapins in MMC so I can read information from these MMC snapins and store this information somewhere else into a text file. I don't need to modify this information, I only need to retrieve it, so I don't need to work with MMC manually in GUI form but can create reports in text file form from these MMC snapins. Do you have any idea if there is a way how to get this information from 3rd party snapins programatically (if possible in a consistent way) ?
thanks & regards,
krompo

i am trying to build a "missed message" queue on a C# TCP server. many
of the devices connecting are mobile and may drop out in bad signal
areas. i want to store any messages missed for when they reconnect.
so far....it takes activity on the client end to initialize the close.
isnt there a check when the server sends a socket.send to a client that
has lost connection? it takes a few minutes for the exception to get
hit, and i am losing vital time.
is there a way for as soon as the the server attempts Socket.Send it
can tell if the device on the other end still has an active connection?
even Socket.Poll() has quite a delay.
i have been testing with desktops. I connect two workstations to the
server and when i chat back and forth, i unplug one from the network.
it takes at least two minutes for the server to recognize that one
client is disconnected while the still-connected client is sending
messages. it seems they are just going nowhere.

how can i make an activex control (i need an ocx file! and not a dll) with visual studio .net and c#?

I have an app created by VS2003. The launch conditions of .net framework's supportedRuntime is V1.1.4322. It can be installed in those machine had this version. I have another machine that only have the newest version framework V2.0. When I installed it, it asks me to install the .net framework V1.1.4322. I think that should not happen when the computer has the newest version .net framework in it. But my app can't be installed. Is there anybody know how to solve this issue?
THANKS!!

You might want to test your application under the 2.0 Framework before you worry about its installation. Breaking Changes in .NET Framework 2.0[^].
You'll just have to change the installer for the app. You could get away with removing the .NET Framework dependancy or possibly just changing the version of the dependancy to 2.0.(something I can't remember offhand).
The code itself will launch (by default) under the latest runtime if the specified runtime is not available. That doesn't mean that it'll work 100% the same as it did under 1.1.

I have changed the version of the dependancy to 2.0.50727, and it works fine under the 2.0 framework. But when I test in another workstation only have .net framework 1.1. The installation request it to install the .Net Framework 2.0, but my application should run under .net framework 1.1 without any problem.
How can I work around this? When the workstation has .Net framework version 1.1 and up, it doesn't need to install any more .net framework.
THanks, Dave!

Whoops! My bad! It's a Dependancy, so without that version, the app won't install. You can put the version number back to the original value, then set the AllowLaterVersions property of the .NET Framework dependency to True . By doing this, you're specifying that your app needs at least version 1.1 of the Framework installed. Newer versions are acceptable for installation.

Hello, Dave..That's so funny..I can't find the AllowLaterVersions property in Launch conditions -> .Net Framework ->property. There are only 4 propperties (Name, InstallUrl, Message, SupportedRuntime) and I'm using VS2003 version. Do you have any idea?
Lisa

Yikes! I though you were using 2005. That property doesn't exist in 2003.
About the best option you have, using the Setup and Deployment project in 2003, is to remove the dependancy entirely. The MSI will no longer check to see if the .NET Framework is installed.
You're better off using one of the other Installer builders or bootstrappers.

Hi,
Simple question for experienced programmers, I think.
I used to work with Visual Studio 2003 in combination with .NET framework 1.1
The development webserver now runs .NET framework 2.0
Now I've installed .NET Framework 2.0 on my development computer.
But when I try to create a new C# web application project on the server, VS tells me that the server does not have .NET framework 1.1, which is true.
What do I have to do to make .NET framework 2.0 the default framework in Visual Studio for new projects?
Greetings

Install Visual Studio.NET 2005.
Visual Studio.NET 2002 will only compile against the .NET Framework 1.0.
Visual Studio.NET 2003 will only compile against the .NET Framework 1.1.
Visual Studio.NET 2005 will only compile against the .NET Framework 2.0.

Ahh.. OK. 2005 it is then.
Isn't 2005 backwards compatible with .NET 1.1 also?

2005 will not work at all with the 1.1 Framework. It's entirely dependant on the 2.0 Framework.
Remember that the compilers are NOT in Visual Studio, they're in the .NET Framework!
Most code generated by the 1.1 compilers will run under the 2.0 Framework, but there ARE breaking changes. Some 200 new classes were introduced in 2.0 and some 1200 changes made to existing classes.
Code generated by the 2.0 Framework will work under 1.1, but ONLY IF no classes and changed methods or properties were used that is specific to the 2.0 Framework.

I built an application in C# and add it a deployment project.
The Installation goes fine, but when I'm lunching the application it crashes and giving me this error:
EventType: clr20r3 P1: radioclocknew.exe P2: 1.0.0.0
P3: 43ea5327 P4: system.windows.forms P5: 2.0.0.0 P6: 4333aefa
P7: 1979 P8: 2 P9: pszqoadhx1u5zahbhohghldgiy4qixhx
On my computer it works great, it happens when I install it on other computer

I've never seen an error formatted like this. My first question would be does the other computer have the same version of the .NET Framework installed as you developed it under? It appears you're developed it under 2.0.

Hello,
I created a C++ project and after I created an install project with my C++ output.
Visual Studio automatically detects C++ dependencies (MFC71.dll : VC_User_MFC71_RTL_X86_---.msm and MSVCR71.dll), but when I install these 2 Dll are in my install folder not in Windows System folder.
How can I put these 2 system dll directly in Windows System folder ?
thank you,

Hello,
I need to make an installer using the VS2005 Setup Project.
One of tasks is a language selection dialog.
The User Interface of Setup Project doesn't include an appropriate dialog
Because none of the dialogs doesn't comprise at least a ComboBox.
Using of Custom Action is not useful Because it appears too late in a middle of a installation process.
Any ideas?

I´ve made a desktop application in C# (.NET 1.1) and now I would like it to run in a local intranet. I know that I can change the .NET configuration on each client and give the application FULL_TRUST permission on the machine ... but isn´t there an easier way ??
Each assembly in the application is strong named, and I seem to remember that this should make it possible to have .NET prompt each user for FULL_TRUST permission when the application is initially launch. This would remove the need for changing the .NET configuration on each machine and make my life much easier
Is this possible or is my memory playing me for a fool
Regards
Bjarne

Only if your machines are in a domain environment, or some other environment that let's you push down Group Policies. You'll have to put together a Group Policy package that the domain will push down to the workstations.

Hi,
I seem to have a problem trying to reference the components of my already existing windows C sharp application developed using .Net Framework v1.0.3 to v1.1.4. I tried giving a reference path to the folder containing the DLLs of the new components, but it doesnt work.
Do I need to uninstall the previous .Net Framework and is that safe? By that I mean will my code complie with the new framework. Please help.
