I already mentioned (may be not explictly) that the netowrk is established normally, the machines has its valid IP (obeying the DHCP IP range and mask), pinging working very well, the Laptop can access the internet through the PC brdige, almost every thing from the point that machines are correctly connected is OK. It is just that the intranet sites are not accessable, I just doubt that it may be related to the gateway and DNS configuration. It's like the http request might be passed through them and never get to its destination.
I also knew about existance of routing table in the system, I donno much about it, but it might be a way to solve the problem if it was the gateway. I just don't get any info about the routing table and if it related to the problem

I'm working from home today (car's in for service), trying to test/debug my apps behavior when the network connection's interrupted. My problem is that yanking the ethernet cable, which works fine from my cube at work, also kills my VPN connection and restarting it's a pain when I'm blowing the connection away every couple of minutes. Does XPpro provide any easy way to interupt my apps connection with the click of a button?

Nope. Anything you do will also tear down your VPN connection...
You couldn't even do it using the firewall or router filtering because you're going through a VPN "pipe" that's wrapping and encrypting all of your communication with your work network.

Not even with a local firewall that;s normally able to disable programs seperately? Being a work machine I didn't want to install any unneeded software, so I didn't give it a try. I have a FW built into my home router for protection.

All your firewall will see is one single communication - the VPN tunnel. Everything that happens within this is invisible to the firewall.

Nope. Your firewall will never see the traffic that's inside that VPN tunnel. Since that traffic is encrypted, there is no way for it to know what's going on inside the tunnel. The same is true for your home firewall. It can only see the VPN tunnel, not what's going on inside it.

I once just changed the "start" text using resource hacker. As I remember it was a string resource in the explorer.exe, but to do it you need to make from another operting system instance (mean that your pc have more than one windows) because there is some kind of file protection system in the windows that restores the explorer.exe (I donno how!!) if it was tampered while the OS is running.
I have no idea about the image, but it should be part of the windows skin (the luna)

just open Visual studio, select the exe or the dll from which you want to open the resource, select "open with resource editor" (which is not the default case), and open it...

There's no DCOM related services in my Win2k Server, and I added all the components it in 'add/remove' but DCOM services still no where to be seeing. Is anybody konws how to add it?

What were you expecting? You won't find anything under the Start/Programs menu...
Except Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Component Services. Even then, there's nothing that screams "Hey! Welcome to DCOM!" DCOM is just about entirely below the covers of the OS. It's Distributed COM, so there's just nothing to really see...

Not entirely sure what you mean, but try running DCOMCNFG if you want to see the registered COM components.

No, Win2k server does not have this service. Have you run DCOMCNFG.exe as I suggested? This will show you all the registered DCOM services on the server.

I take it your not modifying the file in Word?? You shouldn't be doing that at all. Not properly modifying the file according to OLE 2.0 will cause the other data streams to be lost.
There is no support for multistream files native in the .NET Framework BCL, so you'll have to P/Invoke all the necessary Win32 functions to work with one of these files. The problem with this is that most of the documentation for OLE 2.0 was archived years ago.
You might be able to gleen something from this[^] example though...
