hi there!
i think istead of clearing the datagridview u should clear the dataset and then rebound the gridview.

I am running a procedure in a thread which is created on the click of a button. However, the process does not complete correctly. Please refer to the code below:
Private Sub cmdProcess_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdProcess.Click
Try
Dim tquery As Thread
tquery = New Thread(AddressOf Me.GetData)
tquery.Start()
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error In cmdProcess_Click", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
End Try
End Sub
Private Sub GetData()
Try
Dim field1, field2, op1, period1, value1 As String
Dim m1, y1, tablename As String
period1 = Trim(cmbPeriod.Text)
m1 = Mid(Trim(period1), 5, 2)
y1 = Mid(Trim(period1), 3, 2)
tablename = "SSA" & m1 & y1
field1 = Trim(cmbField1.Text)
value1 = Trim(cmbValue.Text)
op1 = Trim(cmbOP1.Text)
field2 = Trim(cmbField2.Text)
str = "select " & Trim(op1) & "(" & Trim(field2) & ") from " & Trim(tablename) & " group by " & Trim(field1) & " order by " & Trim(field1)
ipcon.Open()
DA = New OleDbDataAdapter(str, ipcon)
DS = New DataSet
DA.Fill(DS, "qrec")
ipcon.Close()
DataGrid1.SetDataBinding(DS, "qrec")
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error In GetData", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
End Try
End Sub
-- This code exits with the following error message 'Controls created on one thread cannot be parented to a control on a different thread'
Please guide me how to resolve this issue.

Hello,
I have to create a custom control which consists of a label and an ASP.Net listbox. The control has to have a public property called 'Items' which allows users to add list items to the control's listbox during design time. (much like the Items property of the original vb listbox). I used ListItemsCollectionEditor to show the ListItems Editor window.
However, when the ListItems Editor window appeared and after adding some list items, the listbox did not display the newly added items at all.
A code snippet is given below:
<editorattribute(gettype(system.web.ui.design.webcontrols.listitemscollectioneditor), _
gettype(uitypeeditor))=""> _ //displays the ListItemEditor window
Public ReadOnly Property Items() As ListItemCollection
Get
Return listitems //listitems is a listItemCOllection variable
End Get
End Property
How do I enable the listbox to display the newly added list items?

Why not use Excel? It has built-in functions to do this and lots more.

Do it in Excel then reverse engineer it to code logic... that's what I'd try.

I have too user controls in my program, one of them has a list on it, and I want to reference the list from the user control panel. To be more specific, my list is printersList in user control goPanel, and I want user control goPanel to reference it. I get the the error: "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference." I've done a lot of research on this error, for about the past hour, but have not been able to make sense out of it, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hi all,
I have two datagrids - one is a one column grid 150 pixels wide which always stays in place (like the row number in Excel) and the other, placed right next to it shows a lot of data horizontally. The idea of this is so the user can always see what line they are on since the left hand datagrid is always visible... again, just think of how Excel works and you get the idea.
So, my problem is this - I don't want the left-hand (static) datagrid to have a vertical scrollbar but rather I want it to scroll to the corresponding row when the user scrolls the right-hand datagrid vertically. I'm turning the vertical scrollbar off in the left-hand grid so can I still scroll this datagrid? Or is there another way to get this datagrid to go to the appropriate row? Obviously what I'm trying to do is get both grids to scroll vertically together *without* showing the vertical scrollbar in the left hand datagrid so the whole thing loioks like one very smart datagrid.
Anyone got any bright ideas on how to do this?
TIA for any help or suggestions...
Mike

we can insert items in the checked list box using
CheckListbox.Items.Insert(Index, Data)
like that is there a way to insert the data's corresponding value in the checked list box ? so that we can later retrive the values from
checklistbox.selectedvalue
I think we should open a Star with Microsoft... If you guys know any solution, please let me know.

Hi, I am a newbie who is porting an application written in Lahey Fortran 95 with help from Canaimasoft's F90sql package to vb.net (vs2005 pro). The odbc part etc, is a lot cleaner in vb.net and the fortran code is quite amenable to porting. The real problem I have is with the execution speed - it takes about 60 TIMES longer in vb.net. I thought it to a issue with running the app in the debugging mode on the IDE, so I put together a deployment and installed the application. Little or no change in speed was observed. BTW. The debuggin and other array bound checking etc are fully operation (slower I guess), but the Lahey version did have bound checking as well. I am at a loss to figure out what I could be doing wrong. Researching on the groups seems to indicate a 50% increase in execution time over prev version of vb is seemingly acceptable, but I have 6000 % increase which obviously is NOT. Any pointers anyone?? Thanking in advance for your help.

You're not really comparing 'apples with apples' here.
My experience of Fortran compilers (admittedly over 20 years ago now) is that they are very highly optimized and geared towards crunching numbers. The .NET platform is not optimized for, nor was it designed for that putpose and has a whole lot more overhead.
Maybe you could find out what parts of the app are performing too slowly and attempt to hand-optimize the code or even break those functions out into another DLL written in C++ (for example) to specifically address the performance issues.

Thanks for the reply, for a while I thought I was up against my own stupidity factor This a great help, have to scrap the project as it is though
Thanks again, this takes a load off my mind. I do agree about the .dll solution for the number crunching, Lahey Fortran does allow the creation of dll's for use with other programming systems, that might be worth a look at.
OR complete recoding in C++ might be the answer?

I completely agree with Steve's comments - Fortran is a number-cruncher first and foremost .. so, if you want to compete and compare apples with apples, get yourself an optimized math library and get it to do the crunching for you
