I seriously doubt you'll find the source for any dating website. You'd be better off looking for other projects and applying what you learn from those projects to your own.
Try looking on http://www.asp.net[^].

Hi,
I am using vb.net 2003 in XP. I 've developed a project in vb.net. I would like to provide an evaluation version for the same. The software's evaluation period is set as 30 days. I did this in the following way :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dim strDate As String
strDate = GetSetting(VB6.GetEXEName(), "Startup", "TimeStamp")
If DateDiff(Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateInterval.Day, CDate(strDate), Now) > 30 Or DateDiff(Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateInterval.Day, CDate(strDate), Now) < 0 Then
Msgbox "Your Evaluation version has expired. Please register to
continue"
end
End if
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Above code works well and checks for the evaluation period.
But if the user keeps on using the date between the trial period version (i.e., any date within the 30 days), he can still use the software for any number of days.
Can any one please advice me how to prevent this. Is there any other way for this.
Thanks in advance,
Hari Prasad.

There is no reall easy way in preventing this.
you can do a number of things:
1) Every time user opens program write current datetime to some store. And then check the store if the previous date is before the current date, if not the user changed the system date and you can block the program. But this still leaves space for screwing around.
2) Have some window service running that checks all the time the date and checks if the date is set back. It's a big deal, and who wants to add a windows service for this.
3) Have ur program connnect to some timeserver on the internet. Very secure but maybe the user doesn't have internet or blocks ur program from accessing the internet.
These are just some ideas. But there is no 100% good method.

Hello,
this is C# version of the code:
[DllImport( "powrprof.dll", EntryPoint="SetSuspendState", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)]<br />
private static extern int SetSuspendState(int Hibernate, int ForceCritical, int DisableWakeEvent);
you should call it like this:
SetSuspendState(1,0,0);

Any help would be great....

It's good that you're finding examples. It sounds like all you need is something to covert C# code to VB.NET. Try this[^]. All you have to is paste the C# code snippet, or whatever into the top box, click Generate, and the VB.NET code will appear in the bottom box.

What are the functions of PersistenceMode and DesignerSerializationVisibility?
I have checked the msdn but the one line definition is not very helpful. THey are given below.
PersistenceMode: Specifies how an ASP.NET server control property or event is persisted declaratively in an .aspx or .ascx file.
DesignerSerializationVisibility: Specifies the visibility a property has to the design-time serializer.
So in simpler terms, what do they do?
|
|
|
|
|
KaKa` wrote: PersistenceMode
This is usually used as an attribute of an ASP.NET class property that tells the Designer how to write the HTML for that property and it's value.
KaKa` wrote: DesignerSerializationVisibility
This controls the visibility of a class property to the code generator, and if visible to CodeGen, tells it whether to generate code for the entire object, or for a value contained in the object that it's attributing.

I have a text box and I want it to have only numbers in it. like 3.854 as it is a Currency. What I want is when you press btnCalc, if anyting else but numbers (decimals) are in it it will display a message box saying: You must input a number! How would you do this?
In the end we're all just the same

Hi Dave!
Better to use Regular Expressions for vallidation.Checkout Regex class with Match and Match Colection etc in documentation of .net.
egular expression for decimals only could be as
dim reg as new regex("[0-9]+\.?[0-9]+")
i hope hint wiil help search more in it

Dave...
Instead of waiting for btnCalc time to check for digits and a decimal point in the textbox, you could use a textbox that, with appropriate property settings, allows nothing but numbers and one decimal point. Check out my article on the Extended And Date Textboxes. It's an option you might consider.

I realise that this is very elementary, but I have only just started with VB.Net. I allocate text and graphics to tool bar buttons, and in the editor they appear on the buttons. But when I build the solution, the buttons are blank. What am I doing wrong? I am using VB.net 2003.

Did you do an EnableVisualStyles in your application??? This is a known bug in the .NET Framework 1.x.
Add this line immediately after the EnableVisualStyles() call:
Application.EnableVisualStyles()
Application.DoEvents()

Thanks for the help. No I didn't do an EnableVisualStyles. In the end I just deleted the toolbar and did it again and it works. The code was the same, so I still don't know whats wrong or how to avoid the same problem in the future.
