The report is not a datagrid. there are graphs and other stuff. I guess I have to give up these aspx files and start from PDF generation.
Your reply is very clear. Thank you for your help!!

Or you can generate the HTML and not send it to the browser but save it on the server. Generate PDF from there (as you said you can) and then send the PDF to the user...

I have a drive called U:
In the U: drive i have a test folder that has may .tif files. Inside the
test folder i also have a PreRev folder.
The test folder has many .tif files that do have the same last 10 bits.
What i am trying to do is to loop through the test folder and see the files
that have the same last bits.
If i find two or more files that have the same last 10 bits, i would like to
send a copy of that same .tif file in the PreRev Folder.
This PreRev folder is going to be the clean folder that wont have any file
that share the same last 10 bits with any other file in this folder.
So fare i have created a simple user interface that has 2 buttons and a
text box. The one button is called "Choose File" and allows me to pick
any file in the test folder. The other button is called "Eliminate Dups"
and will be used to eliminate the duplicates.
I can so fare click on the "Choose File" button and browse to the directory that has the file that i want to open.
Also when i select the file its name shows up on the text box fine.
What i want now is a code that allows me to click on "Eliminate Dups"
and test if that selected file has any other file within the test folder
that has the same last 10 bits. If this is true i want to move a copy of that file
in the PreRev folder; if not display a message saying no duplicates.
Thank you in advance

Hi
I am a student with a programme to make on a cinema booking in vb6. need to create form which will allow the user enter in a screen number (1 or 2), number of adults and number of children. Can just about do this much I think!
Module variable counters have to be used to keep track of number of seats booked for each screen. Think this means use of "mint". The command button to process tickets needs to give cost of seats for adults and cost of seats for children and total cost. Then I need to give a 20% discount to overall price if more than 10 people. After that a message box to confirm booking details are correct. also a reset button to remove data displayed in labels and text boxes.
Any help on code for this would be much appreciated. My email address is: helensavery@gmail.com
Thanks

Hi Helen.
You have several options here
1/ If you're good looking enough, post some photos and some desperate nerd will do your homework. Eventually, you will fail your course, but you'll get over this hurdle
2/ If you have enough money, you can go to rentacoder or a similar site and pay people to do your homework until you pass. You will have a degree, but you will never get a job
3/ Do your own homework, and post specific questions here when you get stuck. This way, you will learn, you will pass, and you will one day make more than $3.50 an hour.

Hi Christian
In reply to your three options I will jump straight to option 3 as it will answer the first two as well:
I have already made all the money I need in life. I own my home (no mortgage). I have already got a retirement pension so I do not have the worry about what is going to happen if I do not get that job which is of such importance to you by your comments.
so who's the clever one?

My apologies. Actually, I was assuming that it was you who found it important to find work. I have more work than I can possibly keep up with, it's not a concern of mine.
It's usually younger people who are too lazy to do their own work, and who therefore ask others for complete solutions. I apologize for the assumption. Either way, I see you're now rewording your request. This site is NOT intolerant of people who are learning, that's what the site is for. Most people here are intolerant of people who are not willing to learn. Your original post suggested that you wanted others to do the work for you, which makes no sense if you're ( presumably ) looking to learn for nothing more than fun. Either way, I would encourage you to try again, and ask specific questions, certainly if you look like you're trying to learn, as opposed to looking for a free ride, I'll be the first people there to try and help you.

Helen,
You really have asked a bit much from the people on this forum. We can certainly help with specific problems but cannot - and will not - do all this coding for you.
How far have you got with this project? Are you having problems designing the form, creating the program logic, determining how to string it all together, etc..?
Remember - specific questions will get you specific answers and showing that you have thought about the problem and attempted to solve it yourself before posting will keep you in good stead with the forum community and we'll only be too happy to help.

Hi Steve
Sorry you got the impression I wanted you to do my cinema project for me, this was not the intention, I see a lot of answers like yours to other people who look for help. There seems to be a general intolerance for people who are learning to programme. That is my overall view. Im sorry I have been interpreted as one of these 'lazy' people also. I can assure you my grades disprove this. Im not used to looking for help so maybe I did not put my question in properly, the site seems to invite people to look for help, thats all. My problem is that I have both screens showing up at the same time when I enter the screen number, and when I calculate the price for the adults which is where I am at in the code it comes out as 0. The code I have is as follows:
Option Explicit
Dim mcurGrandTotal As Currency
Dim mcurDiscountPrice As Currency
Dim mcurTotalPrice As Currency
Const mcurDiscount As Currency = 0.2
Dim mintCustomerCount As Integer
Dim mcurSubtotal As Currency
Private Sub cmdProcessTickets_Click()
Dim strScreen As String
Dim strAltScreen As String
Dim intEnterScreenNumber As Integer
Dim intNoOfAdults As Integer
Dim intNoOfChildren As Integer
Dim curAdultsPrice As Currency
Dim curChildPrice As Currency
Const curAdultPrice = 5#
Const curChildrenPrice = 3#
If txtEnterScreenNumber.Text = True Then
lblScreen.Caption = txtEnterScreenNumber.Text
End If
If txtEnterScreenNumber.Text = True Then
lblAltScreen.Caption = txtEnterScreenNumber.Text
End If
'find price
lblAdultsPrice.Caption = txtNoOfAdults.Text * curAdultsPrice
End Sub
I am a business student primarily, doing some vb this year, any help would be gratefully accepted. Its not the end of the world if I dont get it though, im sure ill work it out eventually, as i do with everything else. Just felt a bit hurt by the response. I must say your response was not as hurtful as the one sent by another member called Jonathan. Have a look at it. It makes me sad that people can be so cynical.

Helen Savery wrote: Sorry you got the impression I wanted you to do my cinema project for me, this was not the intention, I see a lot of answers like yours to other people who look for help.
No problems - your original post was not clear about what help you wanted and hence my reply. I do reply fairly abruptly to anyone who seems to want a 'free ride' as is sadly the case with many of the posts in this forum. My sincere apologies if I have offended you. That was not the intention of my post and I thought I had worded it accordingly.
Helen Savery wrote: There seems to be a general intolerance for people who are learning to programme. That is my overall view
We are certainly not intolerant of new programmers or people who want help, but we do draw the line at the seemingly endless number of posts (especially originating from the Asia-Pacific region) that expect their homework/assignment/paid project etc... to be virtually done for them.
More clarity and 'to the point' questions are the best in a forum such as this. We live and learn and I certainly have over the years.
Now to the problem you are having... there are a few issues with your code with implicit conversions between text and numeric types, but the real problem with the calculation being zero is that you have used the wrong variable in the calculation. Have a look at the bolded text in the code below:
Dim curAdultsPrice As Currency
Dim curChildPrice As Currency
Const curAdultPrice = 5#
Const curChildrenPrice = 3#
If txtEnterScreenNumber.Text = True Then
lblScreen.Caption = txtEnterScreenNumber.Text
End If
If txtEnterScreenNumber.Text = True Then
lblAltScreen.Caption = txtEnterScreenNumber.Text
End If
'find price
lblAdultsPrice.Caption = txtNoOfAdults.Text * curAdultsPrice
You have created variables and constants with very similar names and have confused them when writing the code. A very common error.
Helen Savery wrote: Just felt a bit hurt by the response. I must say your response was not as hurtful as the one sent by another member called Jonathan. Have a look at it. It makes me sad that people can be so cynical.

Again, I apologize if my post was offensive to you. That was not my intention. As for other posts I hope their authors will take stock of their responses and tone them down in future.

Hi Steve
Thank you for having the courtesy to apologize to me, I can appreciate that there are people out there that may get on your goat at times, so to speak, I am just unfamiliar with the site and was just exploring. teach me!
Anyhow thank you again and no hard feelings, also thank you for showing me where I went wrong. I have no ambitions to become a programmer, wouldn't have the patience, I just chose it as an option this year instead of Financial Management. Think I will stick to the latter next year.

Could somebody post vb script for an excel macro that does the following
1)Accept the Input i) a string and ii) a test file with path (say C:\ip.txt)
Output should be written to say C:\op.txt mentioning
how manu instances of the case sensitive string occurs in each line of the file
Eg: C:\ip.txt has the following lines and the search is for the string 'any'
any many
many anyone ANY
nany
Output file C:\op.txt should display
Line # Number of instances
1 2
2 2
3 1
2) Same requirement as above but string is non-case sensitive
3) Same requirement above but seach for a character and not a string
4) Same requirement as above but the Input is a word .doc file
instead of .txt file
5) What changes should I make to the code to run the macro from Word instead of Excel
Thanks

Steve,
If you don't intend to help why do you even waste our time with your insults? Yes, there are many helpfull people here that will go out of their way to help others! That is what this forum is all about, one person helping another. I have gotten tons of help from great people on this forum and if I can help someone with my limited abilities I will. Yes, that is what this is all about. People helping other people FREE, GRATIS, FOR NOTHING, ZIP, ZERO except for the possible return of someone else helping them.
I have had people send helpfull code to me and I have sent code to others. I have never been charged for the help that I've received and I've never asked anyone to pay me. If you want paid then I think that you are on the wrong sight.

I do intend to help - but I'm not going to do ALL the work for them as has been CONSTANTLY been requested by many people on this forum.
Insults? I don't think I insulted anyone with my previous post? You'd certainly know an insult if I penned one.
Garner T wrote: Yes, there are many helpfull people here that will go out of their way to help others! That is what this forum is all about, one person helping another. I have gotten tons of help from great people on this forum and if I can help someone with my limited abilities I will.
I know - I am one of those people - if you just go back and check my post history. I'll admit though that the last few weeks have been skewed towards the 'unhelpful' posts due to the influx of people wanting a free ride.
Garner T wrote: People helping other people FREE, GRATIS, FOR NOTHING, ZIP, ZERO except for the possible return of someone else helping them. Indeed I do help others - but only those who show that they are willing to help themselves (read my signature lines if you have not already). Posts like the one that triggered this tirade just don't cut the mustard. They basically demand that the work be handed to them on a platter. No way Jose - not from this little black duck. I also notice the lack of responses to this person's request for help. Looks like no one else was willing to do this guy's homework either.
If everyone actually read this post from Chris Maunder[^] there would be no need for me or anyone else to state the bleeding obvious everytime.
And while I'm at it, I am not the only person on this forum that thinks the same way. I am a little more vocal than most - and for the record have got it wrong at times and have apologised where appropriate - but I'm certainly not 'Robinson Crusoe'.
Garner T wrote: If you want paid then I think that you are on the wrong sight.
I'm already doing quite well thanks. I do not solicit payment or any kick-back at all. I am happy to help those who need it, but only - and I do mean ONLY - when that person has shown that they are willing to get off their arse and help themselves.
Finally, unless and until I am told to sod off by the guys that run The Code Project, I will continue to help those in real need and reserve the right to crticise those that expect a free lunch.

We would like to develop a windows application for a Samsung I700 PDA. The application needs to get data from a remote sql server.
Can anyone recommend any good starter articles for this type of project. The part I don't understand is how the PDA will get data from the remote database and store it locally.
Thanks for any help on this matter.
