You have to have .NET framework 2.0 on the target machine in order to run a .NET 2.0 application.

Hi there,
Well, I am facing some problems while loading an assembly dynamically from a subdirectory located in ApplicationBase. The code works just fine when this dll is located in the application directory but when I tried to load it from one of the application's subdirectory it is not working even when I tried following options:
First, I created a "test" subdirectory for my test.dll(As far as my understanding of deploying a private assembly goes I believe runtime locates dll in application directory then it looks for a subdirectory having dll's name e.g. temp in this case and finally it goes to GAC.)
Second, I get following error log from fusion
LOG: Private path hint found in configuration file: test.
LOG: Policy not being applied to reference at this time (private, custom, partial, or location-based assembly bind).
where test is the subdirectory I am putting this dll.
I have included <probing privatepath="test"> in app.config but it doesn't seem to work.
Also I have tried to use <qualifyassembly> tags and made this assembly strong named and unfortunately that didn't work either.
Additionally, I have tried both LoadFrom() and Load() methods but no help.
As far as my understanding goes I think I do not need to create a strong named assembly when I am using probing element in config.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I usually use this method
<br />
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.AppendPrivatePath( path )<br />
to add a directory (e.g. for plugins) that the assembly resolver should include in its probing.
Hope this helps,
Tim

Thanks,
I tried the AppendPrivatePath method and had the similar problem.
I finally figured out the problem. It is little silly but I didn't know that the problem was because of changing method from LoadFrom(which requires complete filename) to Load. In the load method I was giving the complete dll name e.g. test.dll so the runtime was looking for directories
library test.dll.dll
Thanks Anyway.

I wish to convert a 96dpi image to a 300dpi image in .NET...
Here's the code I currently use:
// iMage is the original 96dpi image
int iNht=(iMage.Height*300)/96;
int iNwd=(iMage.Width*300)/96;
Bitmap bMap=new Bitmap(iMage,iNwd,iNht);
bMap.SetResolution(300,300);
iMage=bMap;
The code works fine, but there's one problem - the 300dpi image is of poor quality (appears kinda faded)... Time is of concern, so I'm avoiding needing to write my own resize method... But the poorer quality is also not acceptable!!
Any ideas??
Thanks!!

You are not only changing the resolution, you are also resizing it. As you enlarge it to more than three times the original size, of course the image quality will be bad. Even if the image is larger, there still isn't any more detail information than in the original image.
If the image looks faded and not pixly, the resize is most likely using the bicubic method. It's the best you can do with conventional methods.
If you wan't a better resizing method you might look up something called Genuine Fractals.

Any ideas where I could read more about better resizing methods, esp any designed for enlarging images ?
Thanks!

I have a Solution (Sol_1) in its own directory with a regular project (Proj_1) and a deployment project(Proj_1_Setup). Each of the projects in its own directory and the directory name is the same as the project name.
Then I needed to create a copy of the entire solution, rename the projects and the directories.
I copied the Sol_1 directory to Sol_2. Then I started the VS IDE and used the Solution Explorer to rename the solution (Sol_2) and both projects (Proj_2 and Proj_2_Setup).
That left me with a Sol_2 directory containing a Proj_1 sub-directory which contains a Proj_2 project. I also have a Proj_1_Setup sub-directory which contains a Proj_2_Setup project
How do I safely rename the Proj_1 and Proj_1_Setup sub-directories without fouling up all internal places where the VS IDE keeps track of this stuff?
FWIW, I'm using Visual Studio 2003 and the application uses VB.Net.
Thanks.

Make a backup of it all (for safety) and just rename the folders. When you open the solution VS should complain that it can't find the projects, and give you the option to locate them.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if I can use .Net Framework 2.0 with Visual studio .Net 2002. I have not been able to add references of the system.dll of version 2.05. The message I get is something like not recognized COM or dll.
If can please explain how to use debug using 2.0v with VS .Net 2002.
Thanks
Vijay

You cannot do this. Visual studio is tightly coupled to the framework. VS02 will work with .net1.0 only. Try the free Express versions or sharpdevelop if you don't want to buy VS05.

I am trying to communicate over Rs232 using a basic RS232 class for .NET. I am able to communicate fine for the most part with most devices. However, a few devices don't respond or respond with garbage when I try to receive data from them in my program. If I connect with HyperTerminal and send the same commands, I get a correct response, and if I try to connect with my application after having connected with HyperTerminal, my application talks fine with the devices.
It is almost as though HyperTerminal is doing some additional initialization that a straight serial connection isn't. Is there anything that anyone can think of that I could do to get my application to behave more similarly to the HyperTerminal way other than checking the settings such as baud rate, parity, stop bits and flow control?
I know this is sort of open ended, but there isn't really another way to describe it so far as I can tell.
Thanks for any feedback.

Hyperterminal doesn't do any extra initialisation so it something to do with your code I'm guessing. Check settings and encodings again
Sorry but in my experience if Hyperterminal does something and your program does something else then its almost guaranteed that it's not Hyperterminal. (I know there are faults but in my experience these only occur when you try something stupid / abnormal).

What terminal protocol are you using? Perhaps that has something. HyperTerm auto-negotiates the protocol by default when it connects.

I have .Net 1.0.3705
When Setting TrustLevel for Remoting Application for Server as well as for the client, by following command,
Dim SProvider As IServerChannelSinkProvider
Dim CProvider As IClientChannelSinkProvider
SProvider = New BinaryServerFormatterSinkProvider()
CProvider = New BinaryClientFormatterSinkProvider()
CType(SProvider, BinaryServerFormatterSinkProvider).TypeFilterLevel = TypeFilterLevel.Full
chan = New TcpChannel(props, CProvider, SProvider)
I get an an error in the second last line. And when i comment it run run the serverand the client i get an error
like this:
<<""This remoting proxy has no channel sink
which means either the server has no registered server channels that are listening, or this application has no suitable client channel to talk to the server."">>
I have also read that all the remote application has Trustlevel =low ByDefault.
Help me out!!!

Hi
I using XmlValidatingReader to validate xml against xml schema.
My xml is looking like this:
<some_name>
... some integer and string data
<xmlData>
... random xml data, like : <a>asdsds</a><b>dsds</b>
</xmlData>
</some_name>
I have no problem with integer and string data, but I don't know to which type to set xmlData element.
xmlData can contain random xml which structure unknown.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
OK - I've searched CP and Google (in that order...) and found next to nothing, so now I turn to the lounge for help. If this should be in the C# or .net framework forum, please say so and I will move it. The specific error at hand might suggest so, but I believe that the general question is, well, .. more general ?
Scenario:
My software (.Net 2.0 app) running on a client win2000 pc.
Problem:
After some time I get the mentioned error dialog from the framework. I think it is some sort of a failfast ? Anyway, I can't figure out from where the error originates and press the "What data does this error report contain?" link and get a new dialog box with this:
Error signature -------------------------------------------------------
EventType: clr20r3 P1: program.exe P2:1.83.2270.18759
P3: 441e74ff P4: system.windows.forms P5: 2.0.0.0 P6: 4333aefa
P7: 16b3 P8: 159 P9: system.componentmodel.win32
Reporting details -------------------------------------------------------
Bla bla bla...
"View the contents of the error report" link
"Read our Data Collection Policy" link [Close]
Pressing the "contents" link gives me yet another dialog box with this interesting information
Exception Information
Code: 0xe0434f4d Flags: 0x00000001
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x000000007c59bc3f
General questions:
Since this is a debug compilation of the program, I would have expected the more informational "old" framework 1.1 error message with the call stack etc, that could tell me where things died. I don't know how to decipher the "error signature" above, as I can't find any official specification of WHAT the parameters P1 -> P9 actually contains. All that google gives from Microsoft is a load of "what has been fixed in <insert_ms_app_here>". Grr....
1)
What does the parameters mean ? Is there a specification somewhere ?
2)
Why don't I get the "old" 1.1 style error dialog with the stack trace. Can I do something to get that ?
Sigh... I moved to 2.0 to get better tracing and so, but it might turn out to be a bit less helpfull when something stops working. Any comments and links will be most welcome !
/Jan
