I want to make a visitors book in my website. But, I am using only HTML , no ASP or such. So my solution is to use a JavaScript. But, I dont know how to connect to the MS Access database using JavaScript.
Could anyone help me in that.
Is there any better solution, any ready made visitors book in the net.?
Thanks a lot

There are probably hundreds of freely available solutions, if you care to search the Internet for them; try Google. But if you'd like to take a crack at writing your own, this[^] is a good article on general database access using JavaScript.

You can't connect to Access using only Javascript. Access is a file based database, and you can't access the file system of the server using Javascipt.
If you used a database server, like MS SQL or MySQL, it would be possible, but not advisable. The connectionsstring would be plainly visible in the source code, and anyone could connect directly to your database and do whatever they wanted to it.
Without using server side code there is no good way to use a database.
There are plenty of free guestbook solutions that you can use. Most of them come with some kind of advertisment, though.

Hi,
How do I draw a rectangle inside an asp.net Imagebox control?
The rectangle should be drawn when the user drags the mouse diagonally across the imagebox control.
I have tried and asked around and it seems that javascript is used to draw the
rectangle in response to the mouse dragging.

Hi,
I have an application that is single threaded that uses a Multithreaded library I have received from a vendor. I'm having a problem where it's intermittantly getting a null exception.
The vendor says to be sure I have set the multithreading option in the compiler. I have looked and I do not see one but I have seen this as an option on some other compilers.
I am using Visual Studio 2003. Anyone know what option this is? I have searched the developers CD but I only find examples how to write multithreaded programs.
Thank you,
Glenn

Thanks to reply for the previous question.I need regular expression for the following questions.
1.I need to accept e-mail address for user name.Which can accepts letter,numbers,".","@". How to do regular expression for this...
2.I need to accept only letters, numbers.i tried this one.
^([0-9]*[a-z]*[A-Z]*)$, but it is giving error in some case.one of the example is "dfdfdfdf1234", it generates error on entering this value.

1. Here's one that I use: "^[a-z][\w\.\-%~]*@[\w\.\-]+\.[a-z]{2,4}$". It's based on the standard for e-mail addresses, but it might be a bit more strict than you want, as some people have e-mail addresses that doesn't conform to the standard.
2. Put the ranges in the same set: "^([0-9a-zA-Z]*)$".

Hi,
I have to create a small application in vc++ in which if I type the url of a zip file, the application lists the contents of the the zip file. Then I select one of them and only that file gets downloaded.
Is such a thing possible? i.e. an application LISTING THE CONTENTS OF A ZIP FILE on the net?
If it is so, please can you give me a general idea how this can be done.
Thanks,
Tara

You would need to put an application on the web server that gets the listing from the zip file and extracts a specific file. If you do that from the client side, you would have to download the entire zip file for each operation.

I have recently taken over the place of updateing and maintaining a webpage.
THe other person worked on it, and he died in the middle.
I need to know if there is anyway, within the bindings of code and script, that there would be a script or code containing the usernames and passwords, mainly for the passwords, because the only way i can modify this page would be to enter the admin username and password, which i dont have. i would just edit it externaly through the server

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to read and write to a XML file that is on the server side from a web browser only using html and javascript?
Chad

|

No, that is not possible. You can't access any file system from Javascript, neither the client files nor the server files.
