Hello everybody, I am about to create a database-oriented program for a Video Club.
I have in my disposal MFC, Delphi, VBA and I am going to use MySql for the Database.
I need any suggestions about which programm language to use.
I know that a program is much easily implemented with Delphi but I am a C++ fun.
Is it easy enough for a single person to create a decent program of this kind by
using MFC within a period of a few months?Have in mind that I am not a Guru.

I am too great fan of VC++, but my suggestion would be create your project/software in the language you are comfortable with!

i was not a guru either as i beginning to write my first app with MFC, after a while (months) i have great fun using MFC.
C++ worth it

Personally, I would never choose Delphi, and VBA is not suitable for a standalone application (like using a screwdriver to hammer in a nail... it works, but really, really badly).
The Visual C++ AppWizard will create a complete shell for a database application including all the code to connect to the database, leaving you to fill out the GUI and business logic. It makes it pretty simple.

I have a problem with my CPropertyPages. When they execute CancelToClose() and also QuerySiblings() there is no reaction. This appears to be related to dynamically created pages, which I have:
CMyPropertyPage* m_pPage;
.
.
m_pPage=new CMyPropertyPage;
.
.
AddPage(m_pPage);
The functions execute SendMessage() to parent window, but somehow the messages don't reach the CPropertySheet. Any suggestions how to get around this?

The following page : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/6f01ek09.aspx
says that __event -based event handling is deprecated. In that case, what is the best way to do event handling?
I have a class HWClass, that talks to a hardware device. Several other classes need to read from this hardware device. However, the reading is asynchronous and HWClass needs to notify the calling object if the reading process is finished.

Use the event_source and event_receiver attributes instead.
Ryan "Punctuality is only a virtue for those who aren't smart enough to think of good excuses for being late" John Nichol "Point Of Impact"

but you still have to use __event and __hook with these attributes. plus, they are optional in native C++. or am i missing something?
|
|
|
|

Yeah, sorry my memory was a little vague there
The __event and associated keywords are the .NET 1.1 style of event handling. .NET 2.0 uses the event keyword instead, and is only supported for managed objects. If you're wanting to use events with native C++ objects (which they were never designed for), I'd recommend using callback functions or functors instead.

i guess back to the old solution. i was aware of functors, but just saw how convenient the __event style was.
thanks!

I code to display the bitmap,
the situation is like , i got a background bmp , and later a transparent bmp (Let's say a character bitmap) to cover onto the background.
I wonder why the background bmp is displayed well n refreshed at every rate , but the character bmp will display in a flashing way.
Is there anything to fix it?
And yet i tried another way , i created the character's DC and HBITMAP directly inside the background's DC but not in the CClientDC. It won't flash but it run very slow when it's bein displayed.
Hope to seek for some guides.
thanks for guides... =)

I have written an application. After clicking cross (close) Button, i have to execute some code (i.e to call fclose() function). Where should I write the code? Please help me regarding this.
|
|
|
|

In your WM_CLOSE handler.
If your using MFC you can override OnClose for your view/dialog, or place your code in the ExitInstance member of your CWinApp derived class.
Or you could put your code in your objects ~destructor.

Handle OnCancel() in Case of Dialog Box!
