When the packet comes using the socket stream I only get part of it using Encoding Ascii get bytes. the second issue I need to read through the message and respond with a similar message. How do I maintain the Encoding if I do get it right

Checkout the System.Text.Encoding namespace. It can convert the stream to and from various encoding.

I'm using VB.Net 1.1 and have a data-bound Combobox on the first page of a TabControl. When the Combobox is populated I set the default index to -1 so that no item is selected. However, when a navigate between pages of the TabControl I find that the first item in the Combobox has been selected automatically even though there is no code behind the TabControl itself.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to prevent it?
Cheers, Ian.

Set the combobox DropDownStyle property to DropDownList so no value will be selected by default

use the "process" class instead of the API
Dim procs() AS System.Diagnostics.process = System.Diagnostics.process.GetprocessesByName("notepad")
Trace.WriteLine(procs(0).Id)

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to write a macro in MS Word that'll change the text in two Text Form Fields to match the user's selection in a Drop-Down Form Field. Ideally it should automaticaly do this whenever the selection is changed (i.e. without the user having to run the macro everytime). Could anyone point me in the right direction on how to do this?
Thanks,

Do you mean an mdi child form ? If so you can set the MdiParent of your main form to true. And in your code, create an instance of the sub form and show it.
My Blog

|
|
|
|
Me.Hide()
Dim F2 As New subForm()
F2.ShowDialog()
Me.Show()

DIM FRM2 AS FORM2()
FRM2.SHOW()

I have a class which inherits Component which I need to serialise to the InitializeComponent() method of a form. This is done with a type converter attribute:-
<TypeConverterAttribute(GetType(Design.DocumentParagraphTextStyleConverter)), _
ToolboxBitmap(GetType(DocumentParagraphTextStyle)), _
DesignTimeVisibleAttribute(False), ToolboxItemAttribute(False)> _
Public Class DocumentParagraphTextStyle
Inherits Component
End Class
However when I save a form with this component on it the instance is not initialised in the InitializeComponent() section correctly. The variable is created e.g.
Friend WithEvents DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading As StructuredDocuments.DocumentParagraphTextStyle
and the properties are set e.g.:
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.BorderColor = System.Drawing.Color.Black
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.BorderWidth = 1.0!
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.BottomBorder = True
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.Font = New System.Drawing.Font("Microsoft Sans Serif", 10.0!)
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.Forecolour = System.Drawing.Color.Black
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.Highlight = System.Drawing.Color.Transparent
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.HorizontalAlignment = StructuredDocuments.DocumentParagraphTextStyle.CellTextHorizontalAlignment.CentreAlign
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.LeftSideBorder = False
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.RightSideBorder = False
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.StyleName = "DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading"
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.TopBorder = False
Me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading.VerticalAlignment = StructuredDocuments.DocumentParagraphTextStyle.CellTextVerticalAlignment.MiddleAlign
But the variable is not initialised i.e. the line at the top of the InitialiseComponent sub that should read:-
me.DocumentParagraphTextStyle_Heading = New StructuredDocuments.DocumentParagraphTextStyle()
is missing.
Any thoughts/ideas/comments?

*sigh* - as is always the case, as soon as I gave up and posted the question I worked out what was wrong.
The component needs a constructor that takes the IContainer e.g:
Public Sub New(ByVal Container As System.ComponentModel.IContainer)
MyClass.New()
Container.Add(Me)
End Sub
