Two options:
+ Define a Select Parameter with the FormParameter class for the SqlDataSource control.
+ Create a handler for the Selecting event of the SqldataSource control, and you can add the varIDENT value in the method.
For more information, see Using Parameters with the SqlDataSource Control [^]

I am still having troubles, how do I pass a PostForm variable from a previous page into the SELECT statement of the ASP Datagrid?

I am currently using .net 1.1 with Visual Studio 2003. What happens if I just download and install .net 2.0 (nb I do not want to upgrade to VS2005 - not just yet, anyway)? Will it over-write 1.1? Will VS automatically use 2.0? Will my projects written using 1.1 load in VS2003 and switch to 2.0?
thanks

I am prompted to ask because my hosting company has recently announced that it will be upgrading it's servers to 2.0 in the new future, and that "this will be a direct replacement of ASP.NET 1.1"
I had been under the illusion that the two frameworks could run side by side. Should I be looking at uninstalling 1.1 and then installing 2.0? WIl VS2003 cope with that?
I want to be able to run my applications locally in the same environment as the remote server.

They will run side by side, the site will just need to be configured in IIS to run under the appropriate framework.

True, but I have heard of providers REMOVING 1.1 when dropping down 2.0 - usually as part of a re-install.....
Can cause a few "issues" hehe

Do you mean above and beyond those documented by Microsoft as regards backwards compatibility? Or are you meaning that when 1.1 is removed there are issues with running 2.0 (esp with regards applications written for 1.1)?
I believe that this is precisely what "my" ISP is doing - removing 1.1 and replacing it with 2.0. They assure us that our sites will still work, as long as the code is compliant... I believe mine is. What I want to end up with is a working mirror-environemtn on my local machine. And I want to know whether Visual Studio 2003 will cope with it. ("It" being uninstalling 1.1 and installing 2.0)
I'd be interested to know more about - or have a link to - these "issues" that you refer to.
Thanks

Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 runs just fine side by side. I have them both installed myself.
Framework 1.1 and 2.0 also runs fine side by side. The issue with web sites is that all web sites in the same application pool has to use the same version. You can have one application pool for each version of the framework, and select application pool for each web site according to the framework version it is using.
I think that most ISP don't want to do this, though. It's simpler to just have one application pool and one framework version, and tell the customers that they have to use it.
Most 1.1 applications runs just fine in 2.0. There are some breaking changes[^] from 1.x to 2.0, but you are not very likely to run into any of them.

I am wondering if anyone knows good code that implements the Windows Explorer selection mechanism (for a DataGrid or HTML table). I know the basics of assigning attributes to DataGrid rows (eg. objDataGrid.Rows(index).Attributes("onclick")) which applies to HTML tables. But wondering if there's a good technique to do, for example:
1. Left-click on file/row to select it.
2. Left-click on a different file/row to select it, reseting previous selections.
3. Hold down CTRL + left-click on different files/rows to multiple select, thus retaining all selections during CTRL key is down.
4. Hold down SHIFT + left-click on different file/row and all files/rows between first left-click and second left-click + SHIFT key are selected.
5. Right-click on one of the selected files/rows brings up a context menu.
6. Right-click on a non-selected file/row selects it, deselects all others, and brings up context menu.
I have googled around and there are many examples, especially using the IE's onContextMenu event. However I still haven't found any code/library which does all 6 of the above (all-in-one). I am looking for something which is cross-browser too.
Anyone seen such a code/library that does the above 6?

You're gonna hate me, but I've just implememnted that in a grid control that we use here - complete with declarative context menus and graphics etc....unfortunately, with source code being our crown jewels, all I can do is offer to point you in the right dir....feel free to email

declarative context menus?
I have managed to create a nice CTRL, SHIFT selection & context menu system with my DataView (table).
CTRL select works nicely. However the SHIFT selection always seems to create a drag-selection between the start and ending rows.
A little reminder. CTRL select is when one holds the CTRL key and mouse left-click on rows to select individual rows (eg. row 1, 3, 5). SHIFT select is when one holds the SHIFT key and left-click on row 1 and then row 10 to automatically select all rows between 1 and 10.
Does anyone know how to prevent IE & FF from selecting the text inbetween the SHIFT selection phase?
Currently I use td background-color for selection and knowing what to delete, etc. Is there a better way to do this?

When we click on the close button [X] in the title bar of browser a event is fired i.e onunload(). In this event we can call a function say xyz(). Now in the function I want to do something which will prevent the window to close.
How can i do this.

IMO, you can set a message in the returnValue property of the event object, but you should use the onbeforeunload[^] event instead as the onunload is too late.

campbells wrote: where should u put it in? actually my header and footer was design in seperate page, and my content page will link them together.
Put it in a global.css (or whatever name you want to call it) then add a statement like this in the head section of each content page:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="global.css" media="screen, print" />
campbells wrote: but i found out that wat ever i do in my other page , when run on my content page those linked page follow the content page setting.
Yes, because each page is independent and knows nothing about the other pages.
campbells wrote: actually is it possible i want to make like the footer style is different then the header and content page?
You can make styles apply to different classes like:
In css:
.header a { color: blue; }
.header a:hover { color: red; }
.footer a { color: green; }
.footer a:hover { color: yellow; }
In html:
<div class="header">
<a href="link1">Link 1</a>
</div>
<div class="footer">
<a href="link1">Link 1</a>
</div>
That's a very simple example. I suggest you google CSS or visit this site: http://www.csszengarden.com/[^]

hey guys, i am planning on driving into the world of html and web developement. i already have knowledge of HTML and can make basic sites and i know there a programs out there liek frontpage that can assist me also. My main purpose for this post is to find out a few things.
1. If i wana make a web-based database, do i need a hosting company to host it? or can i make the main computer in an office host it and people able ot access it when that computer is turned on?
2. If i get a hosting company and thier servers go bonkers, is it possible for them to lose all ym clients information??
3. and sites, links, or advice to help me design this?
Thank you all for any input

What do you mean by that - a database that you can access via the internet? If so, then most can be connected to via asp etc. You'd need to find a hoster with a SQL / Oracle / MySQL backend..
You COULD use a normal PC for the server, and no need to register a domain etc, but the problem with that would be that unless it has a static IP address, it will change regualrly, and people will need to be notified of the change
If the hosting co DOES go bonkers, they will more than likely have backups - check the SLA to make sure that restore times are acceptable for what you need to do.

Q(1)
I have created an array and store 3 functions in it. Eg.
this.validateCols = new Array();
this.validateCols[this.COST] = function(obj, index)
{
return 0;
};
this.validateCols[this.LOCKED] = function(obj, index)
{
return 0;
};
this.validateCols[this.COMPLETION] = function(obj, index)
{
return 0;
};
Calling validateCols[0](0, 0) works in IE, but in Firefox I get:
validateCols[0] is not a function
Is this the correct way to define functions in an array? Or is there a better way?
Or is this not supported at all in Firefox?
Q(2)
Also .swapNode() is not in Firefox? Any alternatives?
Q(3)
I implemented drag 'n' drop and it works in IE but not in Firefox.
Each droppable HTML TD element has:
ondragenter="this.parentNode.style.backgroundColor = 'gray'; window.event.returnValue = false;"
ondragover="window.event.returnValue = false;"
ondragleave="this.parentNode.style.backgroundColor = 'white'; window.event.returnValue = false;"
ondrop="OnDrop(this);"
Each draggable URL element has attributes:
id='draggable'
onmousemove='window.event.srcElement.dragDrop();'
ondragstart='window.event.dataTransfer.setData("text", "data");'
But this doesn't work in Firefox. Anyone got any ideas?
