I had a brief overview of CSS2.1 specs (http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/) but could not find what am looking for. I am wondering if it's possible to define a class more than once and the definitions get merged together.
eg.
// File generic.css
table.panel,
table.tree
{font-family: Arial, Verdnana, Geneva, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
th.panel,
th.tree
{font-family: Arial, Verdnana, Geneva, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
td.panel,
td.tree
{font-family: Arial, Verdnana, Geneva, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
// File tree.css
table.tree {text-transform: capitalize;}
th.tree {height: 25px;}
td.tree {height: 25px;}
Basically I want all panel & tree class to have same font-family, but only the tree class to have additional text-transform & height adjustments.
Is there a better way to do this?

Yes, that works just fine.
If you look up texts about precedence in css, you will find a lot about what happens when you specify multiple styles for an element. It's a tricky matter, so there is quite some articles written about it. Your example is rather simple, as the styles doesn't even overlap.
---
If you set the class on the table, you don't need to set the class on every cell in the table also. You can specify style for cells inside a table with a specific class:
table.tree th { height: 25px; }<br />
table.tree td { height: 25px; }
or
table.tree th, table.tree td { height: 25px; }
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

Im looking to show the user an HTML table with about 8 rows. I want them to be able to customize the order by moving rows up and/or down in the table, then be able to send the newly-ordered list (array, string, whatever) out via a form submit. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You're about the 50th person to post the same question to this forum. You'll find that none of your classmates got a constructive answer either.

Annother clueless student who was told to post a question, without given the instruction to actually find out how to post a question...
Here are your beginner mistakes:
:: Posting a question with a subject that says absolutely nothing about the question.
:: Forgetting to tell what the problem is.
:: Posting code without saying a word about what it is supposed to do.
:: Asking for a reply by email instead of in the forum.
:: Posting a school assignment without telling that it is one.
:: Posting a school assignment without making a single effort to solve it yourself first.
:: Posting without even trying to search the forum first. The exact same question has been asked several times lately.

I wonder where they study and how they all ended up here...

Maybe. Pretty persistent though if they are...

i know, the rest of the class has probably already finished, if he/she spent the time solving the problem themselves instead of posting here, then they would have finished and actually learned something too!

Could someone tell me how I can get notification of if/when an Email I have sent from my program is opened by the receiver.
I beleive I need to include some picture or image, but how do I know when it is accessed.
I develop in VB.NET
Thank you in advance

Using System.Net.Mail? Then use this:
mail.Headers.Add("Disposition-Notification-To", "<address@domain.com>")
Keep in mind that this merely requests notification, I doesn't guarantee it.

<br />
<div style="width: 380px;"><br />
<div style="float: right;"><br />
<div style="height: 40px; vertical-align: middle;"><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnTop" runat="server" Text="Top" CssClass="Button" Width="75px" /><br />
</div><br />
<div style="height: 40px; vertical-align: middle;"><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnUp" runat="server" Text="Up" CssClass="Button" Width="75px" /><br />
</div><br />
<div style="height: 40px; vertical-align: middle;"><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnDown" runat="server" Text="Down" CssClass="Button" Width="75px" /><br />
</div><br />
<div style="height: 40px; vertical-align: middle;"><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnBottom" runat="server" Text="Bottom" CssClass="Button" Width="75px" /><br />
</div><br />
</div><br />
<asp:ListBox ID="lbItems" runat="server" Rows="10" Width="300px" Height="166px"></asp:ListBox><br />
</div><br />
I have the above code in an aspx page, but the div with float right appears above the listbox rather than to its right. If I remove the heights from the divs with buttons in them then the buttons appear to the right of hte list box, but they are all bunched together. I could easily acheive what I want here with a table, but I'm trying to make an all CSS page.
Basically I want CSS for this table:
<br />
<table><br />
<tr><br />
<td rowspan="4"></td><br />
<td></td><br />
</tr><br />
<tr><br />
<td></td><br />
</tr><br />
<tr><br />
<td></td><br />
</tr><br />
<tr><br />
<td></td><br />
</tr><br />
</table><br />

You shouldn't need to have a div around every button. That is extra markup and as you can see is actually using more markup than the table. Try something that will end up looking like this:
<html>
<head>
<title>CSS Float Test</title>
<style type="text/css">
.btnlist {float:right;width:25%;background-color:#0FF;}
.btnlist li {height:40px; list-style:none;}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div style="width: 380px;background-color:#CCC;">
<ul class="btnlist">
<li><input type="button" value="MyButton" /></li>
<li><input type="button" value="MyButton" /></li>
<li><input type="button" value="MyButton" /></li>
<li><input type="button" value="MyButton" /></li>
</ul>
<ul style="background-color:#0CF;">
<li>list box item here </li>
<li>list box item here </li>
<li>list box item here </li>
<li>list box item here </li>
<li>list box item here </li>
</ul>
</div>
</body>
</html>

The select element (that the ListBox renders) is an inline tag, and the div element is a block tag. Put the ListBox in a div tag.
The vertical-align style only works on table cells.

i wonder is it more safe to have own server for the company site or is it the same as we rent the server from other company???
i thinking to have a strong security on my site to avoid ppl hack in.. i only know the password is the more basic security or some.. firewall hardware like router. any other suggestion? on the software and hardware...?? the hardware i might use the IBM brand...
is it ok if u use access for my databse?? but i sound like.. not secure.. compare to MYSQL or oracle...wat u guys think?
|
|
|

It sounds like a hosted solution might be better for you as they would handle all of the security and maintenance of the boxes for you. They will also handle the bandwidth and support the firewall or other barriers. The caveat will always be your code though. If your code is not secure and your connection strings to your database are compromised then you will have a problem.
MySQL is pretty easy to use and is inexpensive compared to Oracle or DB2. It really depends on the language(s) or OS that you are using for what database would be easier to use. IE: PHP likes MySQL, .NET languages like Microsoft SQL Server, etc.

I could not see some forum content.
Why?

I have came across 3 different ways of creating a structure or class.
1. Class as a function way
// Class Constructor
function Timer(Source) {
// Class Properties
this.timerID = 0;
this.tStart = null;
// Class Methods
this.UpdateTimer = function() {
};
}
// Example
var timer = new Timer(0);
timer.UpdateTimer();
2. Class.create & prototype way
var WindowDelegate = Class.create();
WindowDelegate.prototype = {
// Class Constructor
initialize: function() {
},
canClose: function(win) {
}
}
3. Declare as a var way
var myObserver = {
variable: null,
anotherVariable: 33
stringVariable: 'asdf',
aFunction: function(a, b) {
}
}
I assume #3 is just a object/structure instance rather than a class definition.
Has anyone came across #1 way? What are the differences between these 3 ways?
And what is the proper way to define a class?
|
|
|
|
|
Ummm...#1 and #3 is actually the same (with #3 you create the object directly while #1 specifies the class you can create objects from), and there's a variant of #2 that I use for no other reason than it's neat(er):
ClaimControl = function(controlID)
{
BaseClaim.call(this, controlID, 'Claim');
}
ClaimControl.prototype = new BaseClaim();
ClaimControl.prototype.constructor = ClaimControl;
ClaimControl.superclass = BaseClaim.prototype;
ClaimControl.prototype.Load = function (idClaim)
{
return ClaimControl.superclass.Load.call(this, idClaim, 'LoadClaim');
}
ClaimControl.prototype.Save = function()
{
return ClaimControl.superclass.Load.call(this, 'SaveClaim');
}
Either #1 or #2 or mine above is a proper way to define a class. To define an object you can either use #2 or Javascript Object Notation (JSON)[^]

Does anybody know how to read a file using javascript
I have tried but it seems not to work
fh = fopen("filepath", 0);
if(fh!=-1)
{<br />
length = flength(fh);
str = fread(fh, length);
fclose(fh);
<br />
write(str); <br />
}<br />
