Which version of Mandriva 2006? Discovery/Lx[^], PowerPack[^], PowerPack+[^] or Mandriva One[^]?
haseeb_saeed wrote: whats the story about rpm.
RPM[^] is the package management system used in Mandriva, SUSE, Fedora, Red Hat and some other Linux distributions. Normally you use some kind of front-end program to manage software installation and updates instead of the basic "rpm" terminal command.

SciTE[^] is all I can say .
If you want an IDE rather than an editor try out CodeBlocks[^] or MinGW Dev Studio (sorry I can never remember the link but it's something like parayinhasoft.com)

I'm in a rare mood today...
Would you like to specify what you need help with, or should we just list the millions of possibilities in a text file and you point at it when it scrolls by?

Sir,
Do you know something about usbzip32 or usbzip63 boot?
Such as mainboard setting and the file system(Fat16/Fat32) of my usb mass storage device?
Does the disksize of usbzip32 boot device must less than 2GByte?
And i like to discuss this topic with you by msn;player_game04@hotmail.com
Thanks a lot!

Hi!
Now i am making my usb mass storage device to be a usbzip32 or usbzip63 boot device.
My question is: If there any relation between disksize(such as less or more than 2GByte)/disk file system (such as fat16 or fat32) and to successfully boot pc ?
Thanks for any answer.
Best Regards!

In my opinion, your application might relate some part of remote desktop. Whether your application does not a remote administration application but I suggest you to check Real VNC Source Code[^]. And you might want to know more about Real VNC[^].

No, not in the way your question implies.
You can use NTFS permissions on that folder to do something similar though. The user would still get the options of Cut/Copy and stuff, they just would work. Check into Windows 2000 Security[^] for more information to see how it would apply to your situation.

Only applied to Windows Server 2003, not 2000 or XP.

If you do not allow the other people to view your file and also prevent from copy or cut, try to encrypt your file or folder.

What is the benefit of using virtual PC?
|
|
|
|
|
Are you referring to the Microsoft product or to virtualization/emulation in general?
I do not know any advantages of Microsoft's product over other virtualization solutions (VMWare Server / Xen / etc.)
Virtualization has one major advantage: you can store the state of any virtual system and resume it later. Since the host-os is emulating the hardware, it is not a problem to even "suspend" a old win 3.11 system and resume execution later on.
For me, the main advantage is that I am able to install ANY OS I want into a virtual machine and do with it, whatever I want. I recently watched a virtual WinXP box crash and burn by exposing it to the world on the net. I went down so quickly, I now can back up my claim that no unpatched / unprotected box should ever be on the web.
Cheers,
Sebastian

thanks for this, i felt alone thinking so... i even find VPC pretty crap and less configurable than VMWare.

Not much at all. Only thing I use it for is to make quick test boxes.

Is this possible? I am trying to install a .ocx file without admin privileges using Regsvr32.exe C:\MyFile.ocx and I get an error message DllRegisterServer in C:\MyFile.ocx failed. Return code was: 0x8002801c. The reason I would like to do this without admin right is so my C++ program can auto install the .ocx before the program that is using my .ocx starts up. My C++ program has all the right code and does so very well under an admin account but not under a user account.
What I can’t do....
- Run the program or process as another user (like an admin user).
What I would like to do...
Option 1 - Allow the program or user to have write access to the registry. (This is what I think the main issue lies.)
Option 2 - Change the user from a user to an admin and then change them back to a user after installation.
Is any option one that is possible? How? With C++? Are there any more options?
Chris

Microsoft recommended practice these days is to use Windows Installer and not to use self-registration. Your install program should be registering your OCX, your own program should not be doing this. If you absolutely insist on doing it in your own program you should load the DLL and call DllRegisterServer directly rather than using regsvr32 .
Since Windows 2000, the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key is a merged view of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Classes and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Classes , with HKCU overriding HKLM. Ideally the OCX's self-registration code should try to write to HKLM\Classes then, if that fails, to HKCU\Classes (this makes it an admin install if that's possible, falling back to a per-user install).
Windows will not allow you to make a user into an administrator from that user's account. That's a local privilege escalation issue. Likewise you won't be able to change the security on the registry keys - and you shouldn't anyway.
Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

All good information.
It's a shame that MSI is such a pig to use from the point of view of your average 'use the wizard and join the dots' coder (rather than a developer who actually understands COM and the way it relates to the registry. I haven't looked at the registration code in VS8. Is it any different to the VC6 stuff?
