Hi, I am writing a web search engine in asp.net, but i need to know how to write a vb web indexing service in vb.net 2005.
The indexing service needs to crawl the web,and index the web sites key words and the web address.
I would like the indexed information to be entered in a sql database, or another way that can be accessed by a asp.net web page.
Any help or source code would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have been rewriting a app I did several years ago for a call center from vb6 to vb.net(vb7), it's been a real trip and a great learning experience. I decided to use Crystal Reports because it just looks good, easy to layout and print, and also that you can export. I have two issues to resolve. 1st, I use flat random files for speed, but I do not see any way to handle these with Crystal Reports. I though about using xml files, but there would be just to much to change with the existing code. So, would I have to create something like a dataset, populate it from my random access files, and then use Crystal reports against the dataset? Or is there an easier way. 2nd, I have figured out the process of sending a string to the report text and that works fine, but how can I take text that is loaded in a richtext box and export that to Crystal Reports so that it can be viewed and printed?

Hi:
I intend to get datatable's primarykey using the following code:
Dim colArr() As DataColumn = oTable.PrimaryKey
I verify that the column number of oTable is more than 10, and in SQL the related table has a primary key (with a golden key marked on one attribute).
However, the running result of the code above is colArr.Length = 0. What's the problem? Could you please help me out? Thanks.

Are you sure that the DataTable has a primary key? If you Fill a table from a database you will get the data, but not necessarily the constraints and schema information. You will also have to perform a FillSchema (using a DataAdapter).

I was wondering if it is possible to format a listview item's data after the data has been added to the listview. I have a custom listview that is populated from a datatable and one of the columns needs to be in a currency format. Do I need to format the data as it is being added? or can I modify it afterwards? thank you

Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to share a common data between two seperate applications: app 1 and app 2.
Let's say I have a 2 dimensional array representing a grid with coordinate(x,y). Each coordinate represents a cell within the grid. This grid is used as a work floor divided into many cells. At any time, there's only one person supposed to be in one cell with coordinate(a,b). If the cell is occupied, it is marked as unavaible in app 1 thus no one is allowed to enter that cell at coordinate(a,b).
This grid (array) data is only updated in app 1. I want to send this array data to app 2 (on the same computer) or let app 2 have access to this data . How can I do this? Any help would be greatly apprececiated.

I guess I'd write the data to a text file or (even more handy) to a database in app 1. Then app 2 would have a timer control that would check that file or access the database every so often and reload to show any changes in availablity.

Try to add Marking field on your database..
If any changes or user in app1 is using the cell then make a routine that will sets the fields value. The value will be represent as locking for example.
So.. when app2 is accessing the current cell, it will check the state of the cell and will set the rules to the user how to interact with it.
Example:
0=Unlocked
1=Locked
Make sure, you mark it when u click on the cell and immediately the routine will send/update marking value into related record that represent your current cell to prevent app2 to mistaken retrieve the incorrect marking value.

Hi,
I am trying to create a window application to control another application. At the moment I can only find info on how to open applications such as note pad and send strings to write in note pad. Let's say if I would like to do other things apart from just sending a string to notepad, how would I do it.
For example if I want to run a specific program such as MS Word, and then I want to access one of the menus to perform a certain action such as changing fonts or input shape into the Word document. I would like to perform all this using the controls such as a button on a form in VB.NET, how can I do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well there is a couple of things to note here:
To start various applications, you could use Process.Start.
I have noticed however, that you mention you want to able to do many things with MS Word for example. In that case you could use Automation to do whatever you want with Word, Excel etc.
So, what you need to do is to add a Reference To the Microsoft Word Object Library (Just click References in the Solution Explorer, and say Add Reference, Select the COM tab, and scroll until you find it) You can add references to all MS Office programs like that.
Once that is done, you can create Word Apllication variables and manipulate Word through that. Amazing huh ¿
Here's a small sample :

SSWord = DirectCast(GetObject(, "Word.Application"), Word.Application)
SSWordDoc = SSWord.Documents.Add(, , 1, False) 'add a document

SSWord.Activate() 'activate it
SSWord.ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.ShowAll = True 'show / hide symbols = true
After using the Word objects, you need to set the Word Objects to Nothing
And Quit it as well

I wonder if anyone has had the same problem I am having at the moment.
I have a form with a tab object with a collection of 5 tab pages.
For this example, say the tabs are A, B, C, D, E
They are all in the correct order but when I run the application they are appearing as ;
A, B, D, E, C
I close the form and they are in this order,
A, B, D, E, C
I make the changes to be back as
A, B, C, D, E
Save the form and run again, they are back to
A, B, D, E, C
I have tried closing down VB.Net and doing as above but with no success.
Help me please before I pull out what is remaining of my hair.

Will highlight an entire Flexgrid Row in Red. Note here Grid is the name of the FlexGrid.
To change only one cell's color, I think it's obvious by now, that you need to use the .CellBackColor property

I really wonder why viewing report using crystal report in vb 2005 is very slow. It is not good if it is slow to crystal report.
Is there any solution with this? Is there any other kind of report that is better?

Does anyone have an examples/ideas about how to format data using a datagrid in VB Net - maybe its not possible to do this with a simple data grid
My data comes from two tables w multiple records for the same id number and name. I don't want to keep repeating id and name fields
It comes out like this in the datagrid:
ID1 Name1 data group1 (several fields)

ID1 Name1 data group4 (several fields)

It looks like Pivot Table...
I don't know if Datagrid Control in VB can does.
How about this.. you unbound your datagrid with your datasource..
You will create several collection/array to act as buffer/dataset for your data
Then you will put that data into datagrid cell like the way you want to.
It make sense?

putting a splash screen that runs for a few minutes; don't you think a few seconds will do? the program users will get 'bored' if they have to wait for the minutes evry time they run the programme. go through some human interface design notes.
