Attributes? Do you mean "columns"?
00thilani wrote: superkeys
I am unfamiliar with that term. Do you mean "primary key"? Or perhaps "foreign key"?
Perhaps this will work:
SELECT
curr_val,
Items_Rs - Items_Is AS items_difference,
Amount_Rs - Amount_Is AS difference_amount
FROM (
SELECT curr_val, count(*) AS Items_Rs, SUM(amount) AS Amount_Rs
FROM RECEIVE
WHERE coin_note='n'
GROUP BY curr_val
) AS Received
INNER JOIN (
SELECT curr_val, count(*) AS Items_Is, SUM(amount) AS Amount_Is
FROM ISSUE
WHERE coin_note='n'
GROUP BY curr_val
) AS Issued
ON Issued.curr_val = Received.curr_val

I'm looking for an embeddable SQL database. So far I've found SQLite[^], and it does look promising. Are there any other software out there with the same functionality I should be aware of? I like free.

Depending on what you’re looking for there is always Firebird, There is even an article here on CP about Firebird.
Embedded Firebird: Full-Featured Embedded Database[^]
I asked the author about the differences between Firebird and SQLLite. Here is his answer.

Thanks mate! I think I will go for SQLite, because of the ease of configuration and seemingly lower hardware footprint. (Intended users of the application doesn't need/want to know about the database)
I will however bookmark Firebird for possible use in the future. Looks like a really neat rdbms!
I think I'll use Firebird anyhow. It's truly embeddable (thus hidden), and there's a wealth of tools for it.

Woops. I had to switch back to sqlite again. Firebird doesn't support concurrent access to the same file using the embedded stuff.
But, I will keep Firebird in mind for other projects. It really is a nice product! Free and everything!

That is the reason why I haven't used it for anything yet.

I keep looking for a use for it, so far I haven't quite found anything yet. To many projects never enough time.

I must say though that sqlite is fairly good for most simple database needs. It lacks a lot of the good stuff, has quite a weird type system, bad collation support (i.e., must implement it yourself), and not very performant in scenarios with many concurrent writers. On the other hand, it's darn easy to use, and absolutely excellent in terms of configuration (i.e. none!)

I just stumbled upon yet one more alteritave, VistaDb[^]
There are two versions, managed and un-managed. The un-managed one sounds fairly decent. It doens't appear to be free though.

No wonder you're having problems. ASP.NET is for web applications. There is no database code in there. I think you want to use ADO.NET for accessing the database.
Ravi kumar G wrote: i am getting a problem when fetching more then 5000 recoreds from database ... its take more time to fetch
Naturally, the more rows you get from the database the longer it will take.
Ravi kumar G wrote: i need the Proper coding for fetching bulk data
There is no single answer to this. It all depends on what you are trying to do.
Ravi kumar G wrote: Note: data comes from only one or two tables only
Well, if there is a join involved then that could be a source of the slow down. If there is only one table involved then it could be on the filters you are applying (i.e. what's in the WHERE clause)
However, we need more information if you want help. The data model would be helpful along with the queries you are using to try and extract the data.

I think sql2005 RS works with .net 2.0?

i've transfered a sql server database from win2k to winXP. It is working fine with the SQL Query analyzer and the Enterprise Manager. But in the asp.net pages it is displayig the error when i fill the sqldataadapter:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
It was working fine with the win2k. Please help!
Thanks in advance

sometimes you need to add the users to the login/security section of EnterpriseManager.
Hope that helped?
Thanks.

In addition to what VK-Cadec indicated, did you change the name of the SQL server accoridingly? The ASP.NET app could still be looking for the old SQL Server.
Hope this helps.

DB: SQL Server 2005
I am trying to figure out how to check that a value exist before inserting/updating a record in a new table. Simplified Example below:
Product
Product_ID (int)
Product_Name (varchar(25))
Inventory
Inventory_ID (varchar(50))
Inventory_Product_ID (int)
Inventory_PO_Item_ID (int)
Inventory_Status (tinyint)
I need to make sure that the Inventory.Inventory_Product_ID exists in the Product.Product_ID table before the record in the Inventory table is inserted/updated. I could create a stored procedure to do this, but the problem still exist that a record could accidentally be manually added to the table without cheking first. (Plus, I would like to throw an error in the stored procedure if the Inventory_Product_ID does not exist in the Products table.) I read that you can not use Select statements in contraints or rules. Would this be an example of using a trigger. If so, I am not too familiar with triggers and would appreciate some guidance with this problem. Thank you in advance.

Why not use a foreign key on Inventory_Product_ID to Product_ID?

I have a wireless network and sometimes there's a split-second hickup in the connection. The application disconnects and you have to relog in. Is there a way to overcome this with a SQLServer setting that allows the connection to stay up with a glitch in the connection.
|
|

Why would you maintain an open sql connection? That is terrible desgin. SQL Connections should be closed as soon they are no longer in use. You should be storing the connection string in a variable somewhere and creating / disposing connections each time you need to access data.
