Is it possible that an antivirus app is blocking a script from running?

Hi,
I've heard rumors about how if you install the .NET Framework on a computer running a production website, it will overwrite ADO 2.6 with 2.7, and existing COM apps that use databases on that computer will break.
Even worse, I've heard that if you install the .NET Framework on a development computer, you can no longer compile ADO 2.6 based COM software that will run on a computer with ADO 2.6.
Is there any truth to these rumors (or some parts of them)? Are there any workarounds to these problems?
Thanks.

I also heard you can catch things from doorknobs.
I have installed .NET Framework on three systems so far and haven't found any problems. Although it is possible for some apps to be broken after the install, it is more a case of poor coding rather than the Framework causing the problem.

I have had experienced something similiar. I have a VC6 app which uses #import on the ADO msado15.dll and msadox.dll. I installed VC7 on my machine. When I recompiled my app on VC6 and ran it on machines that didn't have MDAC 2.7 installed, the app failed.
Installing MDAC 2.7 resolved the problem. It did catch me by surprise and had to spend a couple of hours installing MDAC 2.7 on people's machines.
It wasn't a big problem for me as I could install 2.7, I can see it might haved caused issues if I'd had a stricter IT manager.

Hi all,
I program in C++/MFC and I am used to making programs and people simply take them and run them on their machines. I heard about the .NET and how things are different and I heard also about the Visual Studio .NET and the .NET framework but I don't know exactly how this these both are related to each other. Do we install the framework on clients? Does anything go on the servers for stuff that we write for .NET to work. I am all confused and I did not see any article so far that tells me what I want;) .
Please help me. Also, when we buy the VS .NET, does it come with VB, VC++ and C#? or do we have to buy the languages separatly?
Thanks a lot in advance ...
Fathi

If you use C++/MFC you don't need to do that, but if you use C# or VB.NET you have to do it.

If you buy 'Enterprise Architect' edition, then you have all of those language. VS.NET means all of them.

Thanks Mazy,
How big of an installation is the Framework?
Can it go on all windows platforms? 98,NT,Y2k and XP.
Is there any software that we need to go on the servers, I mean something that we need to put with
the IIS for things to work.
Thanks again

Yes,but on win98 you can't develope applications..you can only run your softwares.

No,IIS is enough for it.

Nish, you're going to give people heart attacks if you keep doing that
You should say
SDK: about 131MB
Client/Server Runtime: about 20MB

Can is it possible to install more framework in local ( but differnt versions)?
Can i configure visualstudio as that it use the framework1 or framework2?
Thanks a lot.

Anyway there is only one framework...unless you are talking about the beta ones

I have a Visual C# - Standard Edition that does not work properly.
Since Beta2 I experienced problem with using external DLLs (control libraries etc.) - after the project execution ends, message 'Object is currently in use elsewhere' appears on the screen. There are also some associated problems, like mouse disapearance over certain portions of the screen, under the control windows, up to a total halt of Dev Studio. I can see red rectangle outlining 'culprit' object if it's displayed on active tab and I believe that the problem is in Windows Forms Designer.
The whole thing continued to happen after installing commercial version (release 1). Following that I even performed clean instalation of my system (ground up), new OS (Windows 2000) but troubles resurficed again.
Anybody experienced this problem? Every suggestion is appreciated.
Cheers,
Dejan Petrovic

I have created a new mwnu item derivative TagMenuItem which (not surprisingly) has a new tag property. (simply because that is a simple addition)
I have also made a new TagMainMenu control.
What I want to do is to make a new menu editor such for my tagmainmenu class such that it creates TagMenuItems rather than manu items.
Any Ideas???
Thanks in advance

The Menu designer is found in Microsoft.VisualStudio.dll, unfortunately its a private class so you can't access it normally.

I am trying to install VS .Net on Windows 2000 Professional. It asks me to run the Windows Component Update. When I do this it seems to take forever. Almost appears that it is frozen. Is it supposed to take so long or has something gone wrong. It has been over an hour for me now.
Thanks

Welcome to hell. Did you have the beta installed before hand ? I had to do a full uninstall of the beta, AND any add ins I had running, and in the end I found that the only way to make the install work at the end ( which you're still a long way short of ) was to bring up the task manager and kill tasks until it completed.
Installation took me 8 hours +, on W2000 Pro.

Installing VS .NET takes a long time. Don't immediately jump to the conclusion that it has hung. It took me one and a half hours, and I have a good CD-ROM (24x), a fast HD (ATA-100), and a fast processor. (And that was the professional version that I installed, I can only guess how long the more expensive versions take.)

Well I am still stuck at simply installing the Windows Component Update. I did learn that the install has to be killed after some time ( by luck and later by a response to my query).
I managed to install two parts of the windows components update. Now an stuck with a) Setup Runtime Files and b)Microsoft .Net Framework.
Also this is a clean install. Brand new ghard drive. With a new installation of Win2K Pro and SP2.
Now at 4 hours where the progress bar is complete but it will not move to the next component.
Will reboot and then post an update.
Thanks

This is driving me nutsssssssssssssss. Now my IIS will not start in Win2k. Right now I wish I could go back to DOS.
Now when I boot my computer FTP and WWW services just will not start. .Net is still not installed. I cant even uninstall IIS because win2k installation first tries to shut it down which it cannot because it is still trying to start the bloody thing.
Am I the only one having to live through this? Any ideas?
Thanks.
