That is an unusual problem, in my experience anything that works in visual studio should also be accessible *on the same computer* from the browser.
If you mean from a *different* computer then that is a whole other possible set of issues not really related to asp.net development itself, but more related to standard security and firewall and networking issues for IIS in general.

Basically, you'll have two web servers to choose to run your web site: IIS or ASP.NET development server. If you are using the ASP.NET built-in server from VS, then you need to publish the web site to run it under IIS like Todd said. However, you are still able to run your web site with the built-in server without opening VS, to know more how you need to look at the ASP.NET development server in the .Net framework directory.

Hi all,
I have tried the walkthrough given in msdn. I followed the steps given.
First I used the publishing tool from vstudio. I published the files onto a folder at C:\CompiledSite. Then I created a virtual folder in IIS which points to the CompiledSite folder. File sharing is enabled. I also changed the ASP.Net version in IIS to version 2.0
So far, all is ok. But when I typed the address into the address bar (http://localhost/CompiledSite/Login.aspx), an error message appeared.
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.
What causes this error message to appear? For the address, I used the format given in the msdn walkthrough which is "http://localhost/CompiledSite/filename.aspx"

Try searching code project articles for image and database

Please rephrase your question, as it stands it doesn't make sense?
Are you asking, how you can send sms messages to a website or where to send sms messages from the app so they get delivered?

I have two arraylists, each record in each arraylist has the same 2 fields
Any ideas what I could code to see if the value of a field in a given row in one arraylist is the same as the value of a field in a row in the the other arraylist?
|
|
|
|
|
if (((objectType)firstArr(0)).fieldName == ((objectType)secondArr(0)).fieldName)
{
}
|
|
|
|
|
I'm not understanding whats needed for object type
my arrays have two fields in each record; ID number and name, both are strings.
Also the only extention that the system lets me put after my arraylist name is .GetType
(objectType)firstArr(0)).GetType

|
|

Replace objectType with the type of object you have stored in the ArrayList, or better yet if you use .NET 2.0 use List<objectType> rather than ArrayList. So for example, if you have a DataRow stored in the ArrayList, do this:
ArrayList arrList1, arrList2;
//stuff to instantiate your arraylists
if (((DataRow)arrList1[0])[0].ToString() == ((DataRow)arrList2[0])[0].ToString())
{
// do stuff
}
But with Lists do like this:
List<DataRow> list1, list2;
//stuff to instantiate your lists
if (list1[0][0].ToString() == list2[0][0].ToString())
//do stuff

Hi,
What is the difference between updating data in dataset using Adapter.update()
and using CommandBuilder.UpdateCommand()?
Thanks in advance

Hmmm... I don't really know.
But you may be able to find out using a tool like Lutz Roeder's Reflector[^]. It lets you inspect assemblies and decompiled methods.

Hi,
I'm looking to find some code or software, that will allow me to generate an image that will represent the plan view of a building i.e. 5 racks labelled A-E, The rack with the that plan must be hyperlinks that will allow for the viewing of the items stored within that location,
To make things even harder for me, the image must be editable via the web. i.e the user must be able to move, resize racks within the image etc
I know i'm asking for alot but miracles can happen
Thank you

How can you use / display 5000 records in ASP.Net? You really shouldn't be returning that many records in a web browser there is no way to speed it up, what are you trying to accomplish with that many records?

As Todd said that's far too much data to be retrieving. Instead you must find methods to retrieve chunks of smaller sets of data at a time as and only if required by the user in their interface.
If you truly need a lot of data at the server end only then you can cache it at the server, however you should never send that much data out to the client.
Consider using an out of band reqeust (AJAX) to retrieve important portions only, i.e. some sort of paging scheme or a typeahead combo scheme if it's a combo.
In the app I'm working on now, I try to limit each request to no more than 50 rows of data in grids and 20 in combo boxes. Any more and the user can page the grid or combo and it's filled using an out of band ajax request.

It shouldn't take that long at all unless you have large text or image columns. I have a table with over 17000 rows and I can select all of them except the image column (which holds word documents) and it returns all 17000 in 1 second. However, if I select the file_blob column it takes several minutes.
So my suggestion is if you are selecting those columns, don't. Only select them when you need them. For example, the web app that uses this database only gets the .doc from the database when someone requests to download it.

I have a dropdownlist and an iframe in a table on .aspx page..
I am trying to select an photoname in the dropdownlist that once selected will make iframe get loaded with that relevant photo which is in some folder not in the database...
here comes the code of it:
<code>
<td vAlign="top" align="center" width="50%">
<asp:dropdownlist id="ddphoto" Width="120" AutoPostBack="True" Runat="server">
<asp:ListItem Value="Abhinay">Abhinaysree</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="Ali">Ali</asp:ListItem>
</asp:dropdownlist>
<iframe class="iframe" id="photoframe" name="photoframe" frameBorder="1" width="150" scrolling="no"
height="150" runat="server"></iframe>
</td>

Hi All,
I have a HTML Form with Text Field and Button.
The HTML Code is like this.
function validate()
{
if(login.txtname.value != "")
{
return true;
}
else
{
alert("Enter Your Name");
return false;
}
}
I have code for button send's click event in my codebehind file.
Now I want to validate txtname filed before submitting the data.
if function return true postback process should start.
otherwise alert message should display.
one more thing i don't want to use .net's validation controls.
