I could not find the category of crystal reports forum so I am posting here. Sorry for that.
I want to declare global variable in formula editor and access that variable in another formula editor in the same report. How can I do that? Please help.

Ok - I have a parent window where a table is - once the user clicks inside a cell - I want a popup to appear - which it does using this code:

Using the popup window I save all the selections made into my database - once I do this I want the window to cause the parent to postback - which I do with this code:

sScript &= "opener.location.reload();"

Now after this is all complete - I want the popup.aspx window to close - I tried this:
'once everything is posted back to the parent window - close the popup

sScript &= "self.close()"
sScript &= ""
Response.Write(sScript)
BUT the window remains open - I am totally stumped as to why it will not close. Also can you make it vbmodal somehow until it closes or somethign otherwise it just lies behind the parent window.

well I guess self.close() is the same as window.close()
But, also how will your opup know its closed?
Are you keep a reference in the parent window and after reload notifying all children to close? That would solve your delimna because nothing is telling the child to close.

I am trying to load an Unmanaged win32 dll file in my web application. I have tried
both DLLImport() and LoadLibrary() methods. While in the later one, I have loaded the Kernel32.dll file first and then tried to load my specified dll file using LoadLobrary method. I have checked my dll file by moving it to all locations, like bin, root and the folder in which aspx forms are lying. Its becoming a headache for me now.
I have even checked out the privelege for executing unmanaged code for my application, its there.

I have developed a simple application to do emails to different users. But one thing i cannot understand. After my application sends email, this email is placed in Queue folder but i cannot recieve that email
One more thing i want to know that wt are the available free smtp server by using which my application can send email to all the internet users.

It is using your default mail client on your machine.
To use something different you need to send commands to an SMTP server. For information on those commnds see RFC 821[^]

HOTMAIL is an anonymous email server
ALso, you can send it to your ISP. ISP's always handle email. If your trying to spam people they might restrict you to 200 emails a day.

Hello,
I build a test report using SQL Server Business Intelligence
Development Studio. Every thing went well also I can preview of the
report. But when I wanted to deply it by right clicking it its throwing
a message
The first message I got was
'The project cannot be deployed because no target server is specified.
Provide a value for the TargetServerURL property in the property pages
for this project.'
To over the above problem I created a URL,
http://localhost/ReportServer in the property page .
And again I tried deploying it and second I got this message :
'A connection could not be made to the report server
http://localhost/ReportServer
Additional Information:
The attempt to connect to the report failed. Check your connection
information and that the report server is a compatible version.
(Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer)'
This is first time I am trying to get the reports. Could some one
please help me how do proceed from here?

HI , please i wanna ask if there is a way to let me access my data stored in the DB
i tried to access but it gave me an error message , an agly page that colored the
adapter.fill(dtset,"table") line to red
i don't know where is the problem , issn't it like in vb.net ?
i created the connection & adapter & .. but it seem doesn't work , any help please ?

You check the connection first. Also try to get the exact error what you are getting.

it gave me a agly page with some tracing information & like i said the

i think that it is not the same way to access data , i heard something like user or something , may be i have to create a user to access those data or i don't know

Hi, this can be due to many reasons. First check the connection(whether you are getting connected or not), and then also the query which you are passing to fetch the data(command object) and also you can also trap the exact error which you are getting.

i will give you a flash like that may be you will understand me
well , in vb.net you just set the connectionsstring of a connection object then you have immediatly access to your DB
in asp.net , as i learned , you have to create a user in the DB you work on like that you have access , i created this user but first i don't find it like a useful way , the second thing is that i don't know what is the problem
this is the error :
connection failed for the user .....
i don't know if the creating of those users is the real & the effective solution to access data from an asp.net application

Not quite. You still need to open the connection before you can query the database.

No, access is granted via the user id and password supplied in the connection string, if any, or it uses windows credentials if integrated security is specified in the connection string.

I am using a function in the edititemtemplate of the datagrid to return a table.The table is getting displayed with all td'd except one thing.The problem is i am using aspff:textbox tag to invoke the textbox in the td but not dispaying but if i use input tag of type text the control is comming successfully.
I am using the following code to return the table. for invoking the textbox

Although you don't show it I assume you are doing something like this with the string you are creating
Control.InnerText = str1
That won't work, <asp:???> is a server tag, the ASP.NET engine renders it on the server into HTML for consumtion by the client browser. You are just putting it into a string and sending it to the client browser.

Although the HTML controls can be rendered into the datagrid edititemtemplate .But when the asp.net tag is send into datagrid row using the string in the code behind file it does not workCan u send some code.

few days ago i posted a question about atlas and browser compatability and a guy told me
atlas can run smoothly in any browser but he told me to include atlascompat.js file.
i include the file but it does not work.i always found that atlas properly run in IE and FireFox
but can run in opera and netscape.so if there is a technique by which i can run atlas related
application in any browser then pls tell me in detail step by step or give me a url from where
i can get step-by-step instruction and which help me to run atlas related application in any
browser like IE,FireFox,Opera,Netscape.pls help urgent....!

No I didn't - I actually said that atlascompat.js is SUPPOSED to sort all this stuff out.
AFAIK, Atlas WILL support all major browsers - talking to some of the team members at an MSDN event not long ago, this is apparently one of the major aims of the project as a whole (not very MS in my opinion hehe!). Unfortunately however, we're still in a CTP situation, so it's unsurprising that some bits either don't work, or are a little flaky (I myself have problems with UpdatePanels, and was VERY pleased to hear that they've added support for Atlas in user controls!)
Best bet would be to check out the documentation (not brilliant I admit!) and look in the blogs - this almost seems to be the way MS does their documentation these days hehe.
As an aside, are you sure that using Atlas is such a good idea at this stage? You say you need this urgently - you are aware of the GoLive license restrictions?

hi all,
in my application i have an datagrid in which i have a templatecolumn with check box and one text box.my exact need is whan i click the check box the text in the next cell should assigned to the textbox in that row.
any help appreciated.

can u make it little more clearer. From what u said i think this will be ur solution. on the click event of the check box u will have to assign the valuee of the cell in the grid to the text box.If this is not the answer please be free to ask the same question again more clearly.
