You could do a web request call to your PHP page. SMTP Authentication in .net 1.1 is non existent, however .net 2.0 is much improved.
have you considered creating your own SMTP client connecting to PORT 25

Hi!
I didn't test it, but according to this site you should be able to authenticate to a SMTP server in .NET 1.1.
Hope this helps.

If you mean true SMTP authentication and I'd say what the others said was totally correct but if you meant that your mail was accesible only through a PHP web based frontend and you had no SMTP access then you'd have to sniff out the GET and POST paramaters that are being trnasmitted when you click the Submit button on your browser and use C# to do the HTTP POST and GET. Suman, if what I'm getting at is what you need, do reply, and i can fill you in a bit more.

Hi
I have solution (VS2005) which contains many projects and - for example - I reference project A in project B. When I add .dll file from bin\debug it doesn't change automatically to bin\release when I compile it as release version (but it was like that in VS2003).
When to set Copy Local on True? I couldn't find any usefull article about that.
What is the rule for adding dll files to Detected dependencies in Deployment Project Properties?
Many thanks for help

There are project references and there are file references. It sounds like you're referencing the dll file directly. Why not just add a project reference?

I am attempting to learn C# programming using the book Visual C# .NET 2003 Kick Start but the 1st program I try does not compile.
The source looks like:-
class ch01_01
{
static void Main()
{
System.Console.WriteLine("Hello from C#.");
System.Console.WriteLine("Press any key to continue");
System.Console.ReadLine();
}
}
and the error given is :-Building Solution ch01_01
Building Project: ch01_01 Configuration: Debug
Performing main compilation...
Build failed. Couldn't create a remote process.
Where do I fix this please?

Alf, since this is a MonoDevelop error, you're probably not going to get an answer in this forum (where pretty much everyone uses Visual Studio). I suggest you ask this question on the MonoDevelop mailing list or forums if they've got them.

Monodevelop 0.01? The latest version is 0.11. Either way, you might better check this link, since this is a Monodevelop error not one in C# (apart from the fact that the "using System;" and a namespace is missing in the source you posted)

Obviously my understanding of C# sucks as the following works fine:-
using System;
class ch01_01
{
static void Main()
{
System.Console.WriteLine("Hello from C#.");
System.Console.WriteLine("Press any key to continue");
System.Console.ReadLine();
}
}
Good to know that the problem is not with Mono but with me

Fine it works for you. But as far as I know "Build failed. Couldn't create a remote process." is not a error message from the compiler (g/mcs), but from MD itself. Strange problem

Take a look at the System.Net.Sockets namespace.

I need a way to destruct object explicitly.
scenario is that, I load a Xml file using DOM, when done I save the same, and when no more need it, want to reclaim the memory.
Currently not able to reclaim the memory occupied by the structure created by DOM.
Setting all references to the structure created by DOM to null did not help to free memory instantly.
But GC did clean up when the multiple xml files were loaded and unloaded.
Please suggest any way by which I can free the resource when I don't need it.
Thanks

I personally find the .net framework sometimes a pain in the ass.
In languages like Object-Pascal you can simply free memory by calling FreeAndNil (theObject);
But in .net languages this isn't so easy. The only way i know is calling System.GC.Collect (0)
This collects all "garbage" that is created since the last garbage checkup.
But in your position i would call GC.Collect (GC.GetGeneration (MyObject));
Then you are sure that if your object isn't used anymore that you can collect it on this invoke.
But still, it isn't needed in .net, a call to collect is overhead for your computer. It will free up memory when it thinks it has to.

I do completely agree you, especially with your first statement.
Also, would like to thank for the solution to the problem.

The short version is you're worried about nothing.
I'm willing to bet you're looking in Task Manager to see how much memory your "app" is using. Correct?
I'm tired of retyping this again and again, so just read this[^] for an explanation of what you're looking at.

Hi,
Initially the task manager shows usage of 21,000kb.
It goes on increasing with loading of xml file( of size 1.5 mb ) using DOM, by 5 mb with each load.
With multiple loads, the memory usage goes beyond 1,00,000 kb, though some files are unloaded and refences to them set to null.
I believe that it is not a good sign for any application to hold resource to such great extent.
Thus I needed a way to destruct the object as soon as it is no more useful, as the designer of the application I would have the better understanding of the usage of particular object, rather than the garbage collector.
Please shed some light on this.
Waiting for your suggestion.
Thanks

Abhijit

If you want to dispose stuff, use the IDisposable interface ...
using (myObjectThatSupportsIDisposable)
{//My code}
is the same as
try
{
using myCodeObject
}
finally
{
MyCodeObject.Dispose ();
}
and all classes that use the resources that need to be freed ASAP implement IDisposable, so that they will be disposed of...

I'll say this again, since you obviously didn't read the link I posted.
You're worried about NOTHING! What you see in TaskManager is the memory that's reserved the the entire virtual machine that your app is running in. TaskManager is not showing you what your app is actually using!!
If you want to see how much memory your app is using, use Performance Monitor and the .NET performance counters.

hi all,i need to search the documents(word document which are present in the application domain)for a given input "search word".when i run the code it takes too much time to search and display the result,i thing this is because of large amount of the documents...is it possible to speed up this search....or is there any other way to do this....currently my application domain contain 1500 documents,in future it will increase to any amount....
here is my code:
string[] files=Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("."),"*.doc");
for(int i=0;i<files.length;i++)
{="" response.write(files[i]);
="" foreach(string="" s="" in="" files)
="" {
="" streamreader="" sr="new" streamreader(s);
="" string="" s1="sr.ReadToEnd();
" regex="" regtext="new" regex("\\b"+txtsearchdata.text.replace="" (",","\\b|\\b").trim()+"\\b",regexoptions.ignorecase);
="" match="" str="Regex.Match(s1,regtext.ToString());
" if(str.success)
="" res1.add(s);

This isn't your answer, but another question. I am completely lost when it comes to Regular Expressions ( the RegEx class and Match class). Is the a good video or step by step tutorial that can make me understand this concept in a real world way?
I ask as you seem to have a grasp on this.
Thanx!

Hi Friends,

Use inheritance. Don't put anything in method OnMouseMove, OnMouseClick, etc...
|
|
|
|
|
Cursor.Hide ();
then you don't have to worry about your mouse events
Don't you also love the code?

You could override the WndProc for the application for all mouse events. By catching mouse events like WM_MOUSEMOVE and exiting the wndproc function prematurely, the event will be ingnored by the application.
