Sorry for slow response - I don't check my email often at weekends!
Easiest way (simplest to use) may be to use GetPixel() and SetPixel() functions (look in the Visual Studio help.) These let you get the value of individual pixels and set them.
If you want to get an area, you can use GetDIBits() function and SetDIBits().

I want to write a program in Visual C++ to transfer and receive data between a computer and microcontroller over wireless LAN.
I have to implement TCP/IP Protocol for Data Transfer.
From where should i start.
I am the beginner.

I hope your microcontroller control board already has a library implementation of TCP/IP and 802.11; actually I'm a bit surprised that there's room for it in the device's RAM.
From the PC side, you should be looking at the Windows Sockets APIs. Best starting point for that is the Winsock Programmer's FAQ[^].
If there is a library implementation for your microcontroller, it probably also uses the sockets API.

Since this is too general a question, I will try to answer using my own experience, with a similar project. If it fits your case fine, otherwise provide more details, and maybe you will get the answers.
I am assuming that you have a micro-controller board with TCP/IP support. You want to connect it to a PC over a network and build your application above that. If the micro_controller has a TCP/IP Server waiting to serve a client, then you need to implement the Client on the PC (or Vice Versa).
Since you most probably want to have something working quickly and build upon that, you can start by doing a search for a simple TCP client (or server depending on what you have on the other side). Download the project and build it. Next you need to configure (eg: Port Number etc..). Here you need the details on how the Server is set up. You can do this without knowing the details of the protocol (just an overall idea as to Client/Server relationship and the config parameters will suffice). This will bring you to the point of an actual connection being setup between the Server and the Client. After this, you need to fill in the blanks by providing whatever it is your application level is.
This should get you started; you can expand upon it as you go along. At some point in time, you can rewrite it to be more efficient for your particular case.
Good Luck.

I don't think you can insert a dialog into a menu. But you can ofcourse simulate menu like action.
AnimateWindow , MoveWindow , SetWindowPos , ShowWindow are some functions of interest for you.

Hi,
ya in code i have mentioned the type of menu (for ex IDR_MENU)to be displayed. It displays the menu as mentioned by us.I want to display a dialog in place of that menu. The application is similar to ashsystray project in vc++.I have one doubt regarding this i.e,is the poppup menu displayed when we select the start button is a dialog or simply a menu with icons attached to it.Based on the answer how can i move further on this.
Thanks ,
Radhika.

Just add a call to AfxEnableControlContainer(); function at the begining of InitInstance (of your app class).

I would like to use SVG to render some gauges to a HWND in a MFC app.
Unfortunately I haven't found a C++/MFC library. Amanith seems to be interesting, but it doesn't seems to be embeddable into a MFC app, only in Qt apps.
What I would like to do is create a scene from markup and then animate it. The scene have to be rendered to a HWND or HDC.
Any example where SVG is displayed in a MFC app?
Thanks

This might not be exactly what you're after, but you could embed an html control, and render the SVG in that

IE6 requires a Plug-In to render SVG, not sure about IE7. Firefox does support SVG, but I would like to add SVG support to my app rather than relying on a 3rd party app.
Anti-Grain looks promising, but I'm not sure if it can only render static scenes or also supports animations. I would like to render the gauge from markup and then animate the needle.
