I go by train AND bike. 20km by train. I pay for a single journey Euro 3.10. Weekly fee Euro 28,-- and if I choose a monthly ticket I have to pay Euro 88,--.
FYI: In our trains it is allowed to take a bike with you. So I go by bike to the train station in my hometown 2km, travel 20km by train, jump on my bike and another 6km to my office.

0.40 + 0.65 on way there
+ 1.10 on way back = £2.15 GB
However, I have a half fair pass, so the same journey would normally cost be £4.30.

but I like to use the underground here in Hamburg, but using it would take me about 30mins with all walking, where I could do the job with the car in 10mins... so I use my car

Hey, you never know, there could be some pilots who frequent this page...
I think would have picked your space shuttle option.
No generalization is 100% true.
Not even this one.

You are dead right. I see that pilot programmer has already cast his / her vote.

Some people do fly to work. When I was young, my father flew to his job on Monday and flew back on Friday. We only saw him on the weekends.

I normally go by our work bus. But again quite normally, I miss the bus once in a while. This forces me to catch an autorickshaw to work. Work place is out of the city, so there is quite some travelling involved. About 25 KM away, half of which is through heavy traffic and 25% of which is through rough untarred muddy roads. Yuck, you say eh? But that's India

Autorickshaws
I was thinking of other methods that weren't listed (hence the 'Other box' but I'll admit I completely missed Autorickshaws

Yes, Autorickshaws. India's most popular taxi vehicle.

Well, the poll is still young. You might add that as a new option still
That would make the North Indians happy. Specially the Bengalis. They love their autorickshaws. But the worst autorickshaw drives are in Madras. They con you of 100s of rupees. They did that to me anyway

Did you consider buying a motorbike?
It seemed very popular last time I was in India, all Indian engineers used motorbikes to come to the office...

Nope. I don't like two wheelers. I have a car. And sometimes I drive to work. But basically I do not enjoy driving.

You won't say that after one ride in it through heavy traffic.

I doubt that I'd encounter much traffic on the golf course, Nish. And if the back seat is occupied by a cooler full of barley pop I won't notice what little there is

But I thought "Auto-Rikshaw" refers to a "pull-yourself-rikshaw"

Yeah, just as auto-mobiles are mobile phones that work mechanically

I hoped and prayed we wouldn't have any "I posted the first post!" messages. Just for that let me buy you a coffee/beer/lunch next time you're up this way
