Hello,
I'm C++ newbie,
I need a C++ control (for fast graphics) embedded into VB.net project.
I tried to compile test MFC Device application and it worked well,
Then I've tried to make MFC AX or ATL DLL with builtin control class to do the same work, It's built successfully, but when I try to import it into VB.net application, it's added but application does not start! Error message says "COM object with CLSID '{C011DD30-2476-4C47-8C4C-C1EE9BF20F0C}' cannot be created due to the following error: Class not registered ."
I tried to use regsvr32 to register it, but the control isn't registered: "aaa.dll is not an executable ... etc"
Everywhere I searched for this problem says "use regsvrce to register DLL on a device", but I need it registered on PC, to test project on Emulator!
How can I avoid this problem and safely use control?
Thank you.
Update:
I "Deployed" aa.dll on emulator device and then line
Me.aa = New aaaLib.ctlTest
worked well, but line:
Me.Controls.Add(aa)
throws error: "InvalidCastException"
to all appearances C++ ATL DLL class isn't considered to be compatible with .Net control class.
How can I make native C++ control to use it with .net app?

Hi,
Does anyone know how to trigger a soft-reset programmatically on a Win CE device using RAPI?
Thanks

I dont think its built in, but you can:
* Write a dll/exe that implements this[^]
* Detect what processortype is connected (CeGetSystemInfo), and transfer the correct version of your exe/dll to the pda (CeWriteFile)
* Execute the soft reset with CeCreateProcess/CeRapiInvoke.

In order to exit the application use Application.Exit(), instead of Form.Close() ... this should work fine.

Hi,
I would like to develop a simple pocket pc application which could be retrieve data from my desktop database server (SQL Server 2000) via WiFi network.
Here is the code I have written. I am using Visual Basic 2005 with Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC SDK.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class frmMain
Private m_adoCon As SqlConnection
...
Public Sub New()
...
' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.
m_adoCon = New SqlConnection
End Sub
Private Sub cmdConnect_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdConnect.Click
m_adoCon.ConnectionString = "Data Source=192.168.1.103;Initial Catalog=SWSSDB;User ID=swssuser;Password=swssuser01;"
m_adoCon.Open()
End Sub
There is one error occurs at the time it executes Open() method of the connection object and the error description says "General network error.". I am sure the WiFi connection is up and running smoothly.
Could you help me to figure it out?
Thank you for you help.

I'm not sure that this way will ever work. You cannot establish direct connection between PocketPC and SQLServer. For that purpose you need to use IIS. You need to study help file that came with SQLServer CE. There is a good example how to implement this feature. But not a direct communication, that is for sure.

You need either eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 (with SP4) for Windows Mobile 2003, Windows CE 4.2 or Windows CE 5.0 custom platforms, or for Windows Mobile 5.0, Visual Studio 2005. Programs compiled with eVC 4.0 will (typically) run on Windows Mobile 5.0, but you cannot debug a program on WM 5.0 with eVC 4.0.
You must have at least the Standard Edition of VS2005 to do device development. The feature is not in the free Express Edition.
For Windows Mobile/Pocket PC devices you need the corresponding SDK from Microsoft. For a custom CE platform, you need to obtain the correct SDK for your device from the OEM.
eVC 4.0, eVC 4.0 SP4, and the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC SDK (Pocket PC 2003 SDK) can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center[^].
There's an edited version of MFC 6.0 for Windows CE included in the SDKs for devices prior to Windows Mobile 5.0. WM5.0 Pocket PC devices include the classic MFC runtime in ROM (mfcce300.dll) but you are expected to use the new MFC 8.0 runtime if you use VS2005. (The old MFC/CE headers do not compile with the new compiler).

Hi,
I was using gmtime() on WinCE with Dinkumware libraries. It returned local time instead of UTC. Although I can convert it to UTC by calling GetTimeZoneInformation, still wondering why that is, and if there's any other function can be called?
Thanks!

Italian start-up Mazatech is offering the second technology preview of their commercial library for hardware-accelerated 2D vector graphics. The company's AmanithVG library implements the whole Khronos Group's OpenVG specifications, using a pair of 3D APIs, also from the Khronos Group.
AmanithVG implements the OpenVG specifications "entirely on top of" a pair of open standard 3D graphics APIs: OpenGL 1.1 to 2.0, using extensions where available; and OpenGL ES (embedded subset) 1.1 and 2.0. The company claims that using 3D hardware to accelerate 2D graphics can produce quality comparable to software rasterizers, while achieving speeds many times faster or, in embedded systems, using far fewer processor cycles, as shown by the new benchmarks.
OpenVG is an open standard maintained by the Khronos Group. It defines a low-level API for vector graphics libraries, such as those associated with Macromedia Flash, or the W3C's SVG (scalable vector graphics) specification. OpenVG enables "fluidly interactive 2D performance" at very low power levels, Khronos says, and targets small-screen devices with user interfaces based on vector graphics.
AmanithVG is implemented in portable ANSI C, and supports Linux and other embedded OSes.
You can watch online the AmanithVG video at YouTube
