Say I have a database Members.mdf. I bind a table within "Profiles" to a GridView. Then I try to use Linq to access another table in Members.mdf. (e.g. Members db = new Members(Filepath);) Then I get a cannot access database because another program is using it error. I assume that the databind connection is in conflict with the Linq connection.
Is this a fundamental database access conflict problem or LINQ specific? And how can I get around it? Or should I just try to use either databinding or linq but not both? Thanks.

Hello people,
Situation:
I have a webservice method which calls a method inside a separate DLL to perform some database updates. That same DLL method also writes some image files to a directory created on the fly inside the webservice IIS folder.
Problem:
Writing files to a directory on disk works fine, but creating a directory on the fly doesn't. I use Directory.CreateDirectory(path) and I get access denied to path. If I create the directory manually and run the program, all image files are written inside it with no problem. I have tried giving full control to ASPNET user account but still didn't work.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Talal

I'm trying to run stand-alone application from asp.net 1.1
the code is here:
Process program = new Process();
ProcessStartInfo pInfo=new ProcessStartInfo();
pInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
pInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
pInfo.RedirectStandardError = true;
pInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true;
pInfo.Arguments=argument;
pInfo.FileName=reciperouteApp;
pInfo.WorkingDirectory=workingDir["Text"].ToString();
program.StartInfo = pInfo;
program.Start();
program.WaitForExit();
The application start ok but the applicatioin doesnt work properly. the applicatioin get's culture from somewhere and it's wrong the problem occur in decimal formatin i need to use (dot). but it's (comma), this hole project works fine on my laptop but in server it's not working. if i understand correct the new process start as ASP.NET user accout, but where i can chage that culture option. i have try setting the culture option on machine.config and web.config whit no luck. Thanks for help!!!!

Basically, the NumberFormatInfo is used based on the current CultureInfo settings, and the default culture is set based on the locale of the user that the process runs under, so you might want to check this account. To set the culture in an ASP.NET application, you can see:
How to: Set the Culture and UI Culture for ASP.NET ... [^]
|
|
|
|
|
this option helps whit the asp.net application but i need to change the culture for new process that the asp.net application start during the run of asp.net application.
this is what i do on page_load
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new CultureInfo("en-us");
this is done to sure that the dot is decimal seperator
NumberFormatInfo numin=new NumberFormatInfo();
numin.CurrencyDecimalSeparator=".";
Single num = Single.Parse(number,numin);
on web.config i set
<globalization
="" requestencoding="utf-8" responseencoding="utf-8" fileencoding="utf-8" culture="en-US" uiculture="en">
but this doesnot work on new process whitch I start during use of asp.net application the new process is application.exe and it gets argument on startup. this appliction works fine when started on by shurtcut where argument is set manualy.
i hope this helps to understand my problem.

These settings do not have any effect on the spawned process as the new process will be using the settings of the user that it runs under. So your chances here are:
+ Dynamically set in the executable.
+ If the new process runs under the ASPNET account (or NetworkService), then configure this account's number setting.
+ Make the new process impersonate another user other than the default who has the expected format.

|

the second change i understund and i believe that the new process runs under ASPNET account or NetworkService but i dont know how to do the configurattion on that specifig account. So can you give my some example how it's done. Thanks!

Hi,
I'm using Delphi2006 with ASP.Net .I need to retreive the data from the backend conditioning the dates i.e., i need to get the data between the given range of dates.
My SQL query goes like this :
Select x,y,z from <table_name> where
to_date(fromdate,''RRRR/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS'') between to_date(''Calendar1.SelectedDate'',''RRRR/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS'') and to_date(''Calendar2.SelectedDate'',''RRRR/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS'').
So, here i'm passing the dates thru the calendar component from my Delphi. problem is,query is working in the backend.But, it is showing no records in the front end when i try to dispaly it in the datagrid.Atleast , it is not showing any error also.I have changed the dateformat also while passing into the query as
formatdatetime('dd/mm/yy',Calendar1.Selecteddate) and also the same for calendar2.... But i'm not getting the records displayed.
So kindly put me a solution for this.I think the problem is with dateformats in ASP.Net... Please give me a solution.

all,
We are using office automation to convert excel and word to htm we had severa issues like access denied exception etc. and for this issue to solve we followed KB article of MS to configure office under specific user account, but the problem is because security issues we cant follow KB article(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288367/), by looking at KB article what i felt is they are trying to create a profile for local administrator user. So my question can any body have any alternate for this??
We accept tht we went for bad design, but we dont have any other alternative as this is a must requirement from customer.
Please any cluse any information you have.

Another option that you may want to look at is impersonation, your application may impersonate another user who has enough permission to work with the automation.
IamADotNetGuy wrote: this is a must requirement from customer.
Any chance to convince the client that the automation is not a recommendation, may give the Microsoft documentation, and consider a third party component that supports the same thing.

Hello,

Hello,
How to make a SiteMapDataSource to use a SiteMapProvider defined in Web.Config?
I think I should use something like:
MySiteMapDataSource.Provider = ...
However I don't know what to place in "...".
I tried to use a string with the name of the provider but it didn't work.
Thanks,
Miguel

It should be like this:
MySiteMapDataSource.Provider = SiteMap.Providers["ProviderName"];
The first 90% of the code accounts for the first 90% of the development time. The remaining 10% of the code accounts for the other 90% of the development time.
