how can i perform scheduler for performing
some task on given time periods?
|
|
|
|
|
There are many ways to do that:
+ You can use javascript to periodically send a request to the server to perform the scheduled task.
+ You can use the task scheduler at the server side to configure a scheduled job.
+ You can configure a window service at the server side.
+ You can use the Cache object as the scheduler, for example you can save an item in the Cache with the configured time, when it is kicked out due to the timeout, you can cach up this event and perform the task.

Hello,
I'm trying to use a class I've built in an ASP.NET page, but I can't seem to make it work. When compiling the project, everything is fine, but when I try to run it, I get an error saying that the class cannot be found.
The code behind the page is in VB.NET, and I'm trying to instantiate the class there.
For example:
--- Custom Class File ---<br />
Imports System.Web.UI.WebControls<br />
<br />
Public Class CustomButton : Inherits Button<br />
Public Sub New(Name As String)<br />
MyBase.New()<br />
MyBase.Text = Name<br />
End Sub<br />
End Class<br />
--- End of Custom Class File ---<br />
<br />
<br />
--- Main Page File ---<br />
Imports System<br />
Imports System.Web.UI<br />
<br />
Public Class MyPage : Inherits Page<br />
Protected Sub Page_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)<br />
Dim b As CustomButton<br />
<br />
b = New CustomButton("Button!!")<br />
End Sub<br />
End Class<br />
--- End of Main Page File ---<br />
What am I doing wrong?

Hi there,
Where do you define the CustomButton class? in a seperate class file in the same web project or in a seperate project?

Same project, separate class file.

HI,
I am facing the following issue,
I couldn't debug my project and getting access denied error.
When I was a memeber in Admin group I could debug.But when it is removed from admin and added to the following groups it is not working.
1)VS Developer
2)debugger User
3)IIS_WPG
But when we add a new user in the above groups and don't have admin rights,still he can work.
I found situation only when once the member has admin rights and later if it is removed the debugger stops working..
How to solve this issue without having added in the administrator group
Any idea is much appreciated.
Thanks,
RPM.

hi i have a text box that gets its text vlaue after a postback. However, if the text is of a long string, my textbox too growing with text. how to fix it static but with a "%" unit.
----
<asp:textbox id="txtCommitteeNameMYS" runat="server" width="100%" cssclass="TextBox">
-----
Initial display is fine. But after a round trip it changes based on the size of the text assinged.
txtCommitteeNameMYS.Text = e.Item.Cells[3].Text;
It is perfect when the textbox Text is having a small string value like "ABC COMMITTEE". But if the text is bit long like "COMMITTEE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION TOWARDS WOMEN & CHILDERN", text box also grows with no wrap to the text.
I want my textbox width to have a 100% fit in the 22% td of its container table.
Strange -- noticed that the problem is not available if direction is RTL..
any idea ??

Please check whether all other TDs have their width specified.If all TDs have proper width summing up to 100 then this problem will not exist.

Can you provide some code snippets?

Using C# how do I access another page within the project and call a function that is
public to it? Do I simply declare a variable as that page name and invoke the function
on the variable? Does that work even if the page has already been loaded?
I guess I'm wondering if I have to use a FindPage() or something in order to get the
instance of the page that has already been displayed...
I suppose I could just check in the Page_Load for a QueryString and if it's there have
the page call the function on it's own but that seems to be harder than it should be...

it is simple class call. Forget that it is a page and access the function as in a seperate class.
Page 1
namespace TEST
{
public class PAGE1 : System.Web.UI.Page
{
--------------------
private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
PAGE2 obj = new PAGE2();
Response.Write(obj.test());
--------------------------
-------------------
-----------------
Page 2
namespace TEST
{
public class PAGE2 : System.Web.UI.Page
{
------------------------
---------------------------
public string test ()
{
return "SREE";
}
------------------------
---------------------

Well that would work fine but the Page name also happens to be a namespace name (not my code, cannot change it) how do I indicate I want an instance of the page not the namespace? Right now the compiler is erroring because it's treating it as the name space.

Hi Rex,
When a function in a web page can be reused somewhere else, then IMO that's a good candidate for refactoring, you may put this code in a common class so that you can easily reuse it without having to initialize a new instance of the web page.

asp.net 1.1. We have a user control named mhcuc in our project which has got two public properties and one method(which is actually used to access the property and attach javascript click event to child control) and it contains one linkbutton child control. We have two instances of user control in the same page. We have assigned property values for one instance and called method to attach onclick attribute and assigned this instance to another instance. But the first instance click works and not the second instance. Do you we need to assign in a different manner? The properties are seen in both the controls while debugging. Help needed

IMO, you may consider using the delegate to communicate between the user controls instead of assigning one instance to another.

Hello,
I am converting a DateTime variable to a string in RFC1123 format (RSS) using the following code:
Dim a As DateTime
a = DateTime.Now
Dim b As String = a.ToString("R")
It works.
Now I want to make the same but with a Date/Time field from an Access Database.
The problem is that is when I get the field it comes as string.
I tried to use String.Format(MyField, "R") but I still get the string date as "9/16/2006".
How can I solve this?
Thanks,
Miguel

If you really have a Date/Time field in the database, you don't get the value as a string, but as a DateTime value.
You have swapped the parameters in the call to the Format method, that might be the reason for your problem. The format string is the first parameter, and if you put your DateTime value there, it will be converted to a string and used as the format, and as it doesn't contain any formatting the result will just be that string.
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

Hi,
I really have a Date/Time in my database.
About the swapping I believe you are mistaken.
I tried String.Format("R", MyField) and I got R as a result of it.
Was this what you were talking about?
Thanks,
Miguel

shapper wrote: I tried String.Format("R", MyField) and I got R as a result of it.
That is because the "R" string doesn't contain any formatting either.
Try "{0:R}" instead.

b { font-weight: normal; }

Hello,
I have a string which holds a text.
Is it possible to create a substring which uses the first N words of
that string?
Thanks,
Miguel

private string GetWords(string Sentence, int NumberOfWords)<br />
{<br />
string[] Words = Sentence.Split(' ');<br />
int Length = Sentence.IndexOf(Words[NumberOfWords-1]) + Words[NumberOfWords].Length-1;<br />
return Sentence.Substring(0, Length);<br />
}
only two letters away from being an asset
