If I have a Windows application that retrieves data using Web Services and I want the data to be secure can I access that Web Service in a Secure Socket using HttpS:// to provice data encryption?
Example: Https://www.webservice.com/service.asmx
It is my understanding that my Client the Windows app is accessing this in a Secure Socket therefore it is protected. Is that correct?
Thanks

Well It depends on 2 things. Are you using a browser to access the file? or is it internally acessed through an application?
If through a browser then obviously it is encrypted.
If your app gets the file and you arenot using the browser object then by default No it won't be encrypted.
If you use the .Net browser object to collect the data then i think it will be fine as this object simply calls IE to do the work.

thanks For the response this is the code in my Windows application.
WsProxy.FuturesXiServices proxy = new WsProxy.FuturesXiServices();<br />
proxy.Url = this._url;<br />
<br />
WsProxy.AuditLogin[] items = proxy.AuditLoginProvider_GetAll(start, pageLength, out count);<br />
<br />
return Convert(items);
So what you are saying is that this is not protected with encryption if the URL is https://...

Hi, using ASP/VBScript:
Does anyone know how to create a set of variables from members of an array?
Here's what I've tried, but I get a "Type Mismatch"
<%
prodArray = split(prodList, ";;")
for z =lbound(prodArray) to ubound(prodArray)
mystatement = "myprodID" & prodArray(z) = prodArray(z)
Execute mystatement
next
%>
Thanks!

Why do you think that creating variables dynamically is a good solution for what you are trying to do?
I don't think that you need to create varables dynamically at all, especially as there is no way that you can use them without dynamically create code that uses them. It's much easier to use the array instead.
Tip: The LBound function is totally superflous in VBScript, as it always returns zero. It's only useful in VB, where it is possible to change the lower bound of arrays.

Guffa,
Thanks for your reply.
Here's what I am trying to do (hopefully this will explain why I want to dynamically create the variables. If I'm off base, please let me know):
I have an order form that is dynamically created based on products in a database, the text boxes on the form are named after the product id. ie:
<tr><br />
<% <br />
for each x in rs.Fields <br />
if x.Name = "prodID" Then<br />
xProdID = x.Value<br />
prodList = prodList & xProdID & ";;"<br />
End If<br />
select Case x.Name<br />
case "prodName"<br />
response.Write("<td align=""left"">")<br />
case Else<br />
response.Write("<td align=""center"">")<br />
end select<br />
Response.Write(x.value)<br />
%><br />
</td><br />
<% next %><br />
<td align="center"><input name="<% response.Write(xProdID) %>" type="text" value="0" align="right" /></td><br />
<% rs.MoveNext %><br />
</tr><br />
On the process page, I really don't have any other way to know what the names of the submitted data are without looking at the prodList variable.
I then want to return a copy of the form the user submitted so they can confirm their submissions as well write the data to the database.
Does this explanation make sense? How would you do it?
Thanks!
John

Hi, I know that this can be considered a bit of spam, but I'm Allen from a company called Suhari. We're trying to offer a platform for mobile apps and games to be able to offer free downloads, but still return some revenue.
check us out at: http://www.suhari.com[^]
Register at:
http://www.suhari.com/register.aspx[^]
• Early adopter will be receiving 90% of the revenue for any applications or websites registered with our network and using our ad code within the next 3 weeks. This 90% revenue share will never expire for these mobile websites.
• You will also receive 20,000 free ad credits that will allow you to place ads and have 20,000 free impressions for your ad within our network
What is the Suhari AdIN Network?
The AdIN Network is the most feature rich mobile advertising platform available today and we plan to stay that way. Suhari provides a new mobile ad network that allows owners of mobile applications and mobile websites to use unobtrusive, highly interactive, and precisely targeted ads to greatly increase the revenue returned on their product.
Promote your mobile website
You can create text link and banner image ads to promote your mobile website. We currently provide a full end-to-end web based management system that allows advertisers and publishers to register, create ads, and integrate ads into product. Using these management tools, you can view your revenue, adjust your spending, and optimize your returns.
Increase the revenue of your mobile website
At Suhari, we provide an online advertising solution that everyone can use to reach customers and monetize traffic. From large-scale advertising agencies and corporate mobile presence, to small local businesses and private hobby mobile sites that need a little revenue, we’re built to handle it all.
Convert ads into sales
Using our ad response actions, your ad can interact with the customer in ways only possible on mobile:
• Redirect to your mobile webpage
• Allow direct download of a free trial game
• Send the user an SMS with more information
• Send the user an E-mail with more information
• Have the user call your sales force and order right away
• We can also setup custom actions to point at a web service that you provide, such as signups for free trials, etc.
Fast integration
Within 15 minutes, you can insert our code snippets wherever you see fit, and you’ll be able to see the revenue and impressions grow in real time.
Risk-free banner exchange program
The AdIN Network also allows advertisers and publishers to “trade” ad views using the Ad Credit system. Using Ad Credits, an advertiser can create a simple ad, and when this ad is shown on a publisher’s content, the publisher receives an Ad Credit into their account, allowing them to further fund their own ad campaigns. Using this system a free mobile “banner exchange” is created.
So come check out what we’re about at: http://www.suhari.com[^]
Or, to get started risk free, visit and fill out our quick registration form at: http://www.suhari.com/register.aspx[^]

In C++, public, private and protected access to fields and methods come into play during inheritance.
Public: Everyone has access.
Protected: Only parent and descendant children have access.
Private: Only the parent has access.

i was reading this lightbox script and it contains lines like this
Object.extend(Element, {
getWidth: function(element) {
element = $(element);
return element.offsetWidth;
}
i wonder what $(element) has to do here. anyone got any idea?
btw, i have seen a lot of $(....) stuff going on recently. is that a new method of javascript1.x?

Element usually refers to any HTML tag such as <div> or <img>.

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I tried to answer your question.
First of all, variable names in javascript follow this standard:
A JavaScript identifier must start with a letter, underscore (_), or dollar sign ($); subsequent characters can also be digits (0-9).
Since a function in javascript is actually a variable, it follows the same rules. Thus, there is a function created somewhere like:
<br />
function $() {<br />
...<br />
{<br />
or
<br />
function $(object) {<br />
...<br />
}<br />

Search for "function $" in your code, and you will find it.
