Desktop apps use client-side Windows Forms technology (unless it's a console app). The target machine must have the .NET framework installed.
Web apps use ASP.NET to generate client-side HTML and javascript which renders in a browser. The target machine does not need to have the .NET framework installed.

You don't build desktop apps using ASP.NET. ASP.NET is purely web apps.

Can anyone help?
I want to pass in some custom key values from my web config. I have been researching and can not get get it to work. ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("OrgPaths") does not seem to work. So, do I need to set up a function that loops through my values in the web config?? Not sure.
Thank you

Web Config:
<configuration>
<configSections>
<sectionGroup name="DirectoryInfo">
<section name="Common" type="System.Configuration.NameValueFileSectionHandler, System, Version=1.0.3300.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
<section name="OrgPaths" type="System.Configuration.NameValueFileSectionHandler, System, Version=1.0.3300.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" />
</sectionGroup>
</configSections>
<DirectoryInfo>
<Common>
<add key="Root" value="C:\temp" />
</Common>
<OrgPaths>
<add key="name1" value="\folder1" />
<add key="name2" value="\folder2\folder2.1" />
</OrgPaths>
</DirectoryInfo>
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Page:
public void Execute()
{
//I Create a Directory object using DirectoryInfo
string mydir = (@"C:\Temp\folder1");//I WANT THIS PASSED IN FROM THE
//WEBCONFIG?
DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(mydir);
//Pass the Directory for displaying the contents
getDirsFiles(dir);
}

Hi,
in order to add you own values into web.config file, you need to have a node
<appSettings>.
The structure will be following:
<code><configuration>
<system.web></system.web>
<appSettings></appSettings>
</configuration> </code>
Then, inside appSettings node add
<code> <add key="name1" value="\folder1" /></code>
In order to read the values:
<code>string value1 = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["name1"];</code>
Sincerely,
Elina
Life is great!!!
Enjoy every moment of it!

Can anyone give ideas on developing Toolbars in C# compatible with WebBrowsers. Please suggest me some links that explains this or has some tutorials on this, also that could give a sample demo of the code.

How do you mean ? Do you mean
1 - a toolbar that appears in a web page ? If so, it needs to be javascript
2 - a toolbar that runs in a browser ? If so, I'm not sure there's a unified framework for this, I suspect it would be per browser if it was supported at all, and how. I'm not sure if IE supports toolbars in C#, I'm sure other browsers do not.

Seems like it can be done in .NET, it should be fairly simple to convert this article code to C#.

Anyone can tell me if it's possible to create a generic webservice proxy? I found an article that explained it, but I don't trust it because the code he posted is a big mess

Make sure you use the link[^] command below to make your link usable!!!!
The article quite clearly spells out the steps to take. If you don't like his code then just follow his steps and write your own code with the article as a guideline.

You shouldnt block the call to OnStart - it should return as quickly as possible.

Hello all,
I'm pretty new to C#, but I enjoy it very much. I have the following problem, that I can use some help with. I searched the net, MSDN forums, articles on here, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm using C# Visual Studio 2005, which works slightly different then other editors I have used before.
What I'm trying to achieve is using a textbox value ( txtEditLoch ) as a filter in an SQL query. I created a dataset and I can add queries. One of my queries looks like this :
SELECT lochname, nmt_no, nmt_type, nmt_ph, nmt_loc, nmt_con_type, nmt_ip_address, nmt_comments
FROM nmt_info
WHERE (lochname = ' + this.txtEditLoch.Text + ')
This doesn't work. When I change the this.txtEditLoch.Text bit to an existing database value, it works perfect.
The textbox is populated with exactly with that same existing database value. I think I have got my query wrong. Can somebody please point me in the right direction.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hi all,
I need to convert the month number example 4 to "April"
i tried like this...
Convert.ToDateTime(cdata.Birthdate.ToShortDateString()).Month) but this brings back the number 4<br />
Convert.ToDateTime(cdata.birthdate.ToLongDateString()).Month) but this also brings back the number 4 not the word "April"
How do i go about converting the 4 into the month name?
Thank you in advance

Just a side point, its not necessary to convert a date to a string then back to a date, this could just as easily be
cdata.Birthdate.ToString("MMMM");
