I guess you can google for it, it has been far too long for me to remember. Java needs a sort of bridge to connect to a database (JDBC)
So search on terms like 'JDBC', 'Database acces with java', ...
You can also check out the java documentation on the Sun[^] site.

Hi everyone!
I’m still fighting with IE and I need a little help from you guys! My site[^] takes forever to load in IE (6 or 7), but not in every other browser I tested it with. I have no idea what it can be due to. I know most people here use Microsoft solutions, but this site is powered by Django/Python/Apache.

Probably it's waiting for one of your many Javascripts to complete. Remove them one at a time until you find the one that's taking time.

It's not. I turned off JS completely in IE and it is still very (just as) slow. That was also my first guess and what I tried first.

Then I don't know what it is that you do that IE doesn't like, but you are obviously doing a lot of weird stuff when loading the page, so it could be just about anything...
The site loads quite slowly in any browser. It takes about five seconds before it's completely loaded in Firefox, only twice that time in IE so the difference is not that big anyway. I would expect less than a second for a site like that.

first time takes around 5 seconds (im on v. good connect); subsequent trips (cached) def have less load time.

I have a 100 MBit broadband connection, so that's not why it's slow.
Hold control when you press F5 to update, so that the page is not fetched from the cache, if you want to experience the real loading time.

Hi,
In my asp.net (C#) application, I am running a long running process on one asp:button's click. So for safety purpose, I set the UseSubmitBehaviour attribute = "false" and then disable the buttons on the page (using javascript) and then proceed with the process.
Before actually starting the process, I ask the user a confirmation, whether to proceed or not using Ok/Cancel box in javascript and then actually proceed with the process.
But I see that even if user clicks Cancel, the page still posts back and server side process starts to execute.How can I avoid this ?

AFAIK you need to change the following:

The reason is when calling the Javascript from onclick you need to return false to cancel the event.
Your ConfirmSubmit function returned the true or false but it is not returned to the onclick event handler.

I have a website create in Visual Studio 2005 (so asp.net 2.0). This site includes a Temporary folder where files are written by this site only for temporary storage. On my computer, I used IIS to give myself rights to read/write to this temporary folder. However, when I publish my website to the company's servers those rights do not transfer and must be manually set on each server. I'd read once that you can put a web.config in any directory to configure it differently from the rest of your website, but I haven't found anything specific. How do I grant read/write permissions to a specific folder? (I'd rather not use a virtual directory in this case)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My xml contains something like this

In my javascript i have stored the street names in an array using Dom.GetElementByTags() method.
in this case my array (lets call it list[]) will have the following content:
list[0]=street1
list[1]=street2
list[2]=street3
list[3]=street4
list[4]=street3
list[5]=street1
is there a good way in JS to make it so that the array contains only a set? (i.e. remove dupicates)

Hi,
This may be a very common task that many websites carry out, but I dont seem to find a proper solution for the same. Pls help me out
I have a webpage with a datagrid and stuff and 3 buttons. On the click of 2 out of those 3 buttons, I know that the processing time taken at backend is longer, so I need to change the mouse pointer to Hourglass so that none of the buttons are clickable, whereas when the processing is over and screen is updated with new data, I need to show default mouse pointer to the user.
The basic problem what I see here, is that, Because the Client side page rendering doesn't start before server side code is run through, how do you set 2 different cursors at the start of event and then at the end of that event.
Pls Guide me.. I am totally confused, whether this is even possible.

I do not know what language you are using. But one way you could change the cursor is, in the style sheet for your button (if none then make one), add this:
cursor: wait;

Sorry I don't have time to show you the code, but basically you may need Javascript and XMLHTTP to achieve that.

I have two web pages. The main page contains several VML rectangles that have their "onclick" events set to javascript code. The second page is opened by the first page when a particular link is clicked. What I want to do is change the onclick event of a <v:rect> element on the main page from the 2nd page.
So far I am able to retrieve the reference to the object and view it's initial onclick event:

When I switch back to the main page and click on the object though, the initial onclick behavior is gone but the new behavior does not take place. Nothing happens and I get no script error to look at. I've tried moving the new onclick behavior to a function and then setting the object's onclick to the address of that function:

This approach has had the same result so far  Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or how to change this events behavior at runtime?

I have since been able to get the second approach to work by putting the function test() on the main page and then setting the onclick event = to window.opener.test. This still leaves me with the underlying problem though which is that I need to change what test() does during runtime which I'm not sure how to do.

Try to put the function object in the event instead of in the page:

This only works if that element is on the same page as the function. My element and function that I want to be used for the element's onclick event, reside on the main page but I need to modify that function's code from the popup page.

Yes, I did some testing, and it appears that the anonymous function still belongs to the page where it is created, although the function is not declared in the page.

I came up with the following solution:
On the main page I have a function that takes a string and then executes that string as code using the eval function:

Then on the popup page I do the following to change the onclick event's code:

window.opener.execCode("window.document.getElementById('event2_2372').onclick = function() { alert('Modified event code!'); };");<br />
This allows the "function()" assignment to take place in the address space of the main page thus giving it a valid entry point to the function.
If anyone has any tweaks or a better way to do this, please let me know. Thanks!

I am making a web site that I wish to be viewable by both a normal everyday PC and mobile devices(WM5, CE ect.)
The only way I know how to do it is to detect the browser type and go off that. Is there a way to do this without the wasted page?
