i'm using visual studio.net 2003(vb.net). I can display data in the datagrid. the problem is i want to change the data in the datagrid and save it to the database, may i know how to do it?thanks....

hi
if tiy are binding the datagrid to a data table, then all the changes you
made it, it will been in the datatable, so what yon need is to save the changes from that datatable to the database.

I have a slight problem. I need items on a collection (or list) with an index that doesnt change. Right now i have a collection, and i am trying to add an item to it using a key. my code:
<br />
for i = 1 to 3<br />
mycollection.add "grass", i<br />
next i<br />
and i get a type mistmatch or such retardedness. Any ideas? i tried doing a listbox with .additem "grass", i
and... it gave me an error as well. :-/. any ideas?

Yes. but i simplified my code. its actually:
<br />
for i = 1 to 36<br />
temp = (rnd * 3) + 1<br />
if temp = 1 then<br />
collection.add "grass", i<br />
elseif temp = 2 then<br />
collection.add "wall", i<br />
else<br />
collection.add "enemy", i<br />
end if<br />
next i<br />
and then when you destroy a wall, i need to change 'wall' to 'grass'. which means i need to be able to add to a certian spot... and i cant do that without a key.

You can't replace an item by adding. That would just insert another item and move the following items one step.
Why aren't you just using an array?
---
b { font-weight: normal; }
|
|
|
|
|
im tired at the moment, care to give me an example of how i would use an array in that context?

Example:
' create the array
Dim grid(35) As String
' populate the array:
Dim rnd As New Random()
For i = 0 to 35
temp = rnd.Next(1, 4)
If temp = 1 Then
grid(i) = "grass"
ElseIf temp = 2 Then
grid(i) = "wall"
Else
grid(i) = "enemy"
End If
Next i
' change an item
grid(12) = "grass"
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

Learn how to convert it yourself. There are fewer and fewer VB6 examples on the 'Net, since there's no longer any support from Microsoft for it.

So you can't determine from the code what to change to get a different character?
I showed you how easy it was to find code for the component. If you tried it yourself, I'm sure that you would be able to find some code in VB6.
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

Hi all,
Im in panic mode, Ive got some strange error in my .net 2.0 project.
Its connects to an sql database and performs some actions.
However, its failing to connect to a database.
the cnn.open() fails with the following message:
Request for the permission of type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0' failed.
Its fails on both sql authentication, and windows authentication.
However I can connect to the database using Enterprise Manager.
Anyone seen this message before? Im completely stumped.
Does anyone know of how to fix this.
Friday afternoon and im desperate!!!
Mark

It must be something with your connection string. Try debugging on the cnn.open() line and take a look at what your connection string looks like though the quick watch. Make sure it's being set correctly.

Hi Kschuler,
connection string is perfectly fine, no problems. I have 2 that I can use, one for trusted and one for untrusted connections. Both fail.
Any other ideas?

Sometimes you can get a more detailed error message by putting a try catch block around the line of code that is in error...then put a breakpoint on a dummy line of code in the catch block so that you can quickwatch the exception object. Maybe that will give you more information to go on.
Sorry I can't be any more helpful.

Yeh, thanks for the help. Unfortunately Ive already done that.
Its baffling me. In two years of development in .Net, Ive never seen this error before.

Are you running this code from a trusted source? Running from a LAN server is NOT a trusted source, btw...
