Chris,
I'd really like to be able to view the forums and lounge with a "collapsed thread" view that would list only the top-level post on each thread. This would let me navigate past long threads (such as flame fests) without having to hit the "next page" link so many times.
I'd also like to be able to switch between sorting the forums (and lounge) by the date of the original post (as you do now) and by the date of the most recent response (so I can quickly identify live discussions that may have started some time ago).
I hope that it's possible to do these two things without too much trouble.

Hi.
I would like to make a suggestion for a new utility section.
We're all using various utilities to do our everyday work but I have no idea if I'm currently using the best one available, or if a new tool has been launched.
I'm not looking for thousands of links, there is enough of shareware sites for that already.
Perhaps some sort of voting system where the 20 most tool could be listed.
I.e. last week I spend a lot of valuable time looking for a good hex editor, it would have been so much easier to log into CodeProject 
Anyway, here is the tools and utilities I use.
* Basically all from SysInternals, HandleEx, DebugView etc.
* Remember Norton Commander for DOS? Windows Commander is a excellent Windows version.
* EditPlus when I need to quickly edit a file.
If such site already exist please let me know, thanks.

Are there any negative affects with MCF?
Does my program runs slower, do they take more memory, do they crash more often? Then if I code straight win32?
I have to write a program that is stable, so are ther any drawbacks by using MCF instead of win32?

I thought the idea of MFC was that it was a SMART Library of code
and that the only problem comes when you add your bit
??
I see the problem with MFC being that you never learn the Windows API??

MFC is a great time-saver, and as long as yu don't step too far out of MFC's own (sometimes quirky) sense of reality, you should be fine.
Any program that makes use of a pre-designed class framework is going to be larger than one which doesn't. MFC programs will grow if you include any of the following capabilities:
- support for windows sockets
- support for MFC collection classes
- support for com/atl/activex
- support for databases (odbc, ado, dao)
Of course, you can compile your app using the MFC DLLs which makes your programs smaller at the expense of having to ship the MFC DLLs, as well as the possiblity that some rogue install program will overwrite those DLL's with an older version.
I personally prefer to statically link MFC. Sure, it makes my apps a little larger, but I don't have to worry about those stupid DLLs either.

IS Win32 really dead? I mean just a few days ago I was still using Win32 for some 2D DirectX game code. Am I a tyrannosauras?

All Windows based programs eventually use the Win32 API, is closest you'll get to the operating system.
MFC wraps Win32 API and makes Windows based programming a little easier.
VB on the other hand goes thru many layers before finally consuming the Win32 API.

ive been trying for ages to find code to help me out in native win32 C
but everything here and at other sites is always using MFC & C++ code.
why not add more win32 C code?

Seriously, unless you have some really good reason for staying with C, you're just going to get left farther and farther behind. (not just C++ either).

I had the same problem! But I was fast enough to migrate to C++ as I started with the MIGHTY C, But just honestly C++ adds more and more to C!
Erik is Right! Add that Not Better But Best for you to migrate as well!

There should be a section for win32 platform sdk code or something. I use C++ but I don't use MFC, and there's no way I'm going to port ALL of my code to it!

Hi Chris,
Just wondering if on the latest comments page, some distiction could be added to indicate whether the comment is associated with an article or a post to a forum. I know that you merged all this stuff together, but it would be nice in viewing this listing to be able to know which comments are article related and which comments are forum related. I also know that the 'Title' is listed under the subject of the comment, but trying to remember all of the forum titles is a bit tuff for this old bean ( suffer from old timer's disease ).

I've done a quick and dirty that will have to do for the moment. Maybe different colours for different types of forums will be better.
Erik Funkenbusch sent in a huge wishlist which mirrored a wholoe bunch of things I'd like to add, but it's aall got to be juggled at the moment with the upgrade and the article backlog.

Actually Chris, your current addition of the text is just great for me. I especially like how it 'pops' up a new browser window for the comment you click, instead of using the current browser window. I'm sure others will complain, cause I'm not noted for having the most mainstream of opinions, but heck at least I got my vote in first  .

The trend is slowly for developer sites to take over from subscription services as 1. Virtually everyone's on line, and 2. Its a more cost efficient business model.
The introduction of C Sharp offers new opportunities for minor developer sites to increase there market share, it also permits experimentation of some Kick A_se wild solutions.
What I'd like to see,
A 3rd party knowledge base of C Sharp Q/A, FAQ, etc
An intelligent Natural lingo Search System Indexed to the FAQ, Q/A articles etc
eg Joe types/asks
"How do I use Templates"
A. Change to C++
or
"How do I make a C# control"
A. Your first C# control By Troy Marchand

Much two often in C++ have the same questions be asked and then answered by living beings. And then the answers have been lost in the myradical byte madness,
But now
It is possible to almost restart the process,
Possible an Idea where a user enters a question, when the question isn't answered satisfactorily it is posted to a Discussion Forumn.

Do you have a plan Chris ?
I see something in between full blown articles and discussion board answers, as a valuable resource.
( articles and answers are also great !)
Some sites have gone in for rated answers .
I guess , I'm thinking more along the lines of a
---> edited ---> keyword indexed ----> re-edited ----> Published.
Thus a Q and A that has been processed out of Discussion Board Post's.
I'm just musing here.
My reason for wanting this imaginary resource is purely alturistic, eg I'd love to be able to use it when I need to learn C sharp.
