What you might need to do is to look into the classes defined in the System.IO and System.Xml namespaces in MSDN to see how to read a text file and produce an xml document with lots of examples in there, also you may also need to check out some utility methods for string processing (regular expression). In some cases, you can use the ADO.NET to query data from a text file.

I have a user control that takes user input and when you click the 'calculate' button; it does some calculation with JavaScript and save the value to a hidden input box.
I want to call the 'calculate' button's logic from my WebForm so that it can do its calculation using JavaScript and save the value to the hidden input textbox; which i can reach using myUserControl.FindControl method.
How can I do that?
Alternatively I would like to know how I can access a UserControl method (that returns a string value) from WebForm? Thanks for your help.

Perhaps, I misunderstand your requirement, but basically if you want to invoke the user control's properties or methods, you first need to get reference to the control, then simply call its members.

You can look into the Select[^] element which represents the dropdownlist at the client side, and use javascript to access the value and assign to the label, there are surely lots of examples out there, try to have a good search.

I hope someone can help me out with this one. I am working on a web application that plays mp3s. The mp3 player I'm using is PseudoMP3, the free .net mp3 player server control by A Boisen. My problem is that i'm trying to secure the mp3 files by saving them in a folder outside of my root, but I can't access the files from my application. My site is hosted by an ISP. My syntax for getting the files is:
PseudoMP3Pick.Src = @"d:\websites\sampleDomain\mp3s\Superman.mp3";
The root directory is "d:\websites\sampleDomain\http\"
This is how I choose the mp3 file to be played. When the page loads, the player says "Buffering..." and never stops. When I play mp3 files within the root, the player would say "Buffering..." for a few seconds and then starts playing the song.
I'm using C#. Thanks for the help!

You cant do that, when you save your files (Anyone) outside the root site, you must to use at absolute path to get it, In development time you know the exactly drive where you arre saving the files (thats the reason why you application works locally), but your ISP have a diferent System Files (even the D: label doesnt exist or could be the CD Drive), So you must to save your files inside the root, and using relative path to play them)try to secure your application hiding the user address bar.
keep Learning and you never will be out of date...

Thanks for your reply, Britney.
That path is actually the ISP's file system. So I know that the directory d:\websites\sampleDomain\mp3s\ exists on the server. I tested it by having my application read a .txt file saved in that same folder. And it works. I just can't seem to access the mp3 file. I don't know if I have to convert it to another data type in order to read it.
Thanks for the help!

Anybody have any idea when the first implementors of the spec are supposed to have a working version? I did a little research, and didn't see anythin obvious. I look forward to playing with it, though:
<script language="javascript 2.0">
class C
{
var x: Integer;
var name: String;
function Test(y: Integer)
{
return x + y;
}
}
var o: C = new C();
var x : Integer = o.Test(6);
</script>

I need run my asp.net page say: every one minute.
How to execute the asp.net page using a php file in Linux server, for which a cronjob is created? Should I use iframe to execute the asp.net file inside php? Will this solve the problem?
If you have better solution please let me know. I'm not interested with assinging "Scheduled Tasks".
Thanks in advance. Hope you understand my prob.

So you want a task scheduler on one machine to call a file which will hit a web page located on another machine to perform some task? I see many points of failure here. What exactly are you trying to do?

Is there a limit to the size of an item stored in a session object?
I'm storing an image object within a session object so I can pass that image from page to page (I'm manipulating an image across the span of several pages so unfortunately, as far as I know, I have no choice but to store my changes within a session).
The images are usually around 25kb in file size but our concern is what would happen if all of a sudden, we required a 2 mb image to be used? Is there a limitation to the file size of the item stored within this session?
Thanks in advance.

You should be fine. Session objects are kept on the server.
My question is why place it in the session at all?
|
|
|
|
|
The limitation is the amount of free memory on the server.
Be aware that by storing large objects in session variables, the site gets sensetive to DoS attacks. It's easy to create new sessions that will quickly use up all available memory, rendering the server unusable.
Also, storing large objects in session variables uses a lot of memory resources even in peaceful times. As the session objects live for a long time, anything you put in them will use a bit of memory for a relatively long period of time. It's normal for a web application to use resources for fractions of a second and then release them, so when you allocate memory that you hold on to for something like half an hour, that uses much more resources than normal.

Save the image in the disk or database and pass the filename or image id in session

Hi All,
I need to do correct https request and get the Response Page.
So I have used Msxml.dll for this.
My code is given below:-
MSXML.XMLHTTPRequestClass lobjRequest = new XMLHTTPRequestClass();
lobjRequest.open("POST","https://test.abc.com?jsessionid="+_strSession, false, null, null);
lobjRequest.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
string lstrRequest="Mime Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded"+
"&user="+lstrUserName+
"&password="+lstrPassword+
"&page=%2Foctxml%2FIndexPage.jsp"+
"&title=TXT0969";
//lobjRequest.send(null);
lobjRequest.send(lstrRequest);-->Error Occured after this..
This is working fine for http request Pages.But when I execute the program ,I have taken the following error.

Recently I was asked in an interview
1) Is it possible to use a .NET DLL in VB 6.0 or ASP?
2) If Yes, is it necessary to register .NET DLL?
Cheers!!!

1. The classes in the dll must be marked as comvisible
2. Use regasm.exe to register the dll
