Do you "have use in MFC" option properly set in the project options?  I suspect that it is set to "Not using MFC" for some reason.

I checked the project settings: Configuration Properties -> General -> Use of MFC: Use MFC in a Shared DLL.
I think there is no problem with the MFC settings...

Hi all,
If I enable outlining for C++ files in options, when I double click on a class member in class view for the first time, it takes me to the correct place, however, after that, double clicking on another member takes me to the wrong place. Anyone else have the same problem? I'll try this at home tonight too. Thanks for any help!

I used COM+/MTS with VB6, but I get the feeling that the COM+ & .NET match is very much a version 1 solution.
I've been reading this article and it's done nothing to dispell my fears.
I no longer see COM+ as an object broker, and the transaction infrastructure that it gives you comes at the cost of crossing the managed-unmanaged process boundary. Is COM+ going to change drastically when the .NET servers come out?
I certainly hope they will, and in VS.NET's favor!

When I run anything in Debug mode, VS .NET just freezes. If I run it non-debug mode, [Ctrl-F5] it works fine.
I tried to do a Repair/ReInstall but it freezes while generating the setup script 
Now I am going to try to UnInstall and ReInstall VS .NET!
My bad luck seems to be getting worse and worse each day

I can't repair it - it freezes during the generate script phase
same with uninstall
So I took add/remove and removed everything. That's when setup failed and gave this error in the log
[05/05/02,07:45:39] setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install() failed in ISetupManager::InstallManagerHelper()
[05/05/02,07:45:39] setup.exe: [2] Component error string not specified in ISetupManager::AddToActionResultCollection()

Thanks for the help Nick. I finally discovered that my problem was with Zone Alarm. Actually with the logging service of Zone Alarm., If I disable it, all is well.

I had the same problem with zone alarm. And am not sure whether mcAfee caused some grief at one stage too. I realized that the best way to install VS .Net is to shut down absolutely everything including services such as IIS etc.
Good luck. I managed a successful install and then a sample build and compile in 4 days. Damn nightmare if you ask me. But now it all works fine. I used Windows 2000 professional.

Actually my zone alarm problems were not just with the installation. I also had trouble running programs from vs.net in debug mode

I never experienced that. So while disabling the logging for zone alarm works for you , there may be a deeper problem. Not sure if I am helping here or just setting you up for another sleepless night.
Lets see though, maybe I do have the same problem just not seeing it. I have built and debugged VC++ Managed C++ web services, and ASP .Net clients. What are you trying to debug? Per your original message it appears that debug fails everywhere.

I'm thinking about wrapping some of my code in managed C++ but sadly I have a third party static lib to include.
Does VC.NET allow the linking of static libraries compiled with VC6?

I think I heard that VC.NET could use VC6 static libs, but VC6 can't use libs created with VC.NET. That is what is stuck in my head anyway; then again I've had some pretty messed up things stuck in my head

Well this probably has been asked for over a million times, but is it even possible to compile a C# project to machine code? Suppose that for some reason someone else doesn't have the Framework, how do I compile my project so that it'll work on his platform (win32 for instance).

C# requires the framework to run. The only VS.NET compiler that generates native code is the C++ compiler.

Anyway it`s the same old story... you can`t run a Java app without the JVM, you can`t run a VB6 app without the VB runtime, you can`t run a MFC app without the MFC libraries...you can`t run a .NET app without the .NET runtime.

No way.
NGEN.exe can generate native code, but this nativde code calls the framework. Simple as that.

I'm trying to get .NET adopted in my company, but the code that is being done is VB6-style VB.NET. Originally, I wanted to get all code done in C# to avoid this problem, but alas...
So, non-OO .NET is being churned out and I'm battling to find MS documentation that will help me "win over" all the VB6 ppl.
Does anyone else have this issue?

I think there are books available for smooth transition from VB 6 to VB .NET.
And I am not sure whether pure VB 6 style code would even compile on VB .NET.
And remember people don't like to change to something new, something they are not well-versed in, they get scared of change, of being shown out as ignorant.

Some years ago I had a similar issue. The only way: start coding small and very useful classes.
Some months later, people will start understanding the OO benefits.
Some years later, most of them will be happy OO programmers. A couple of them even will use STL and create C++ templates.
If you can't wait this time try finding another job.
