I have this little code block in a user control:
function initAjax(params)<br />
{<br />
alert("initAjax begun...");<br />
<br />
ajx.AjaxRequest(params);<br />
}
When I load the control, I get a " Compiler Error Message: CS1002: ; expected" in the temp class that is generated for the control. The line that causes the error is:
#line 23 "http://localhost/WIP_Control_Layout/Common/Controls/Doc_Brief.ascx"<br />
ajxDoc_Brief.ClientID
I would have thought the compiler would emit the comment symbols as well, preventing the buggy javascript statement from causing an error. I understand the compiler ignoring HTML comments for script, but shouldn't it keep comments that are part of the script?

The Javascript code is not parsed on the server, it's treated as plain text. The server executes the server code regardless of what the surronding text (Javascript) looks like. The server doesn't skip that piece of server code, as it doesn't even know that it's inside a Javascript comment.

Have you tried using the C++ style comments, "//", instead of "/*..*/" type comments.

I've tried both. As Guffa says, its the server code that causes the issue, not the javascript.

Not sure if is a programming question...
I'm researching about Web Crawlers[^] and theirs User Agents[^].
Do you use some automated tech to detect if some visitor is one WebCrawler? Or do you maintain one list of bot's user agents and compares with?
Fun fact: the asp.net has a property HttpBrowserCapabilities.Crawler[^] what is "true if the browser client is a search engine; otherwise, false. The default is false." but, of course, never works...

And, more important, why?

Well, no, we can't help. You have told us what your code does, and what goes wrong. Until we see what the code is, we can't comment on how it may be done better.

Statement below make my search so slow:
$sWhere = "c.zipcode =". $searchresultstr;
$sWhere = " WHERE (" . $sWhere . ")";
$sWherePlus="AND (p.isbrand=True) AND (p.category_id=1 OR p.category_id=3 OR p.category_id=5 OR p.category_id=6 OR p.category_id=8 OR p.category_id=9 OR p.category_id=13 OR p.category_id=25 OR p.category_id=36)";
$sql_ads="SELECT DISTINCT t.contact_id as t_contact_id FROM `osb_contacts` AS `t`
Inner Join `osb_companies` AS `c` ON `t`.`company_id` = `c`.`company_id`
Inner Join `osb_products` AS `p` ON `t`.`company_id` = `p`.`company_id` WHERE ((POW((69.1*(c.longitude-\"$lon\")*cos($lat/57.3)),\"2\")+POW((69.1*(c.latitude-\"$lat\")),\"2\"))<($radius*$radius)) $sWherePlus";
$sSQL1="SELECT DISTINCT p.brand_sub_id as p_brand_sub_id FROM (osb_companies c INNER JOIN osb_company_info_details cd ON c.company_id = cd.company_id) INNER JOIN osb_products p ON cd.brand_sub_id = p.brand_sub_id WHERE ((POW((69.1*(c.longitude-\"$lon\")*cos($lat/57.3)),\"2\")+POW((69.1*(c.latitude-\"$lat\")),\"2\"))<($radius*$radius) $sWherePlus)";
------------------------------------------
The idea that i want:
if p.category_id=1 or p.category_id=8 then $radius=50
the other else $radius=1000
Can i use condition if in Where statement of MySQL and Can i set Variable of PHP
in Where Statement of MySQL
Please help me

I have made a web application for a customer, which has a messaging system integrated. It works so that each user logged in as member of a specific group can send a message that appears in a single line of each page in the system, for users presently logged into that group. the line is updated using atlas update panel. It updates by an atlas timer every second to look for messages in the database.
This is not supported on NOKIA phones, and even AJAX seems not yet to be supported.
Is there any other way to implement asynchronous update of just one control in a webpage aimed for Nokia phones (E61 mainly)?
thanks in advance,
Axel

If AJAX is not supported, you can use older techniques to make a request, like updating a hidden frame.

Hi,
I'm building an Ajax project and i need to get an event from the page when the page is finished to load and to render and is shown to the client's interface.
The second question is when i invoke an Ajax panel through the event mentioned above, does it triggers the Ajax UpdateProgress when i call a method inside the UpdatePanel?

I'm sorry but I'm a lil confused.
If you want an event that occurs when the page loads try this:
<br />
<body on load="Do.AmazingAjax.Rendering()"><br />
FANTASTIC PAGE CONTENT HERE!!!!!<br />
</body><br />
next, UpdatePanel? AJAX is a technology that is comprised of using JavaScript to perform certain functions without refreshing the page. There is no such thing as an update.

How, using AJAX techniques, can I update TextBox control implementing following two functions Button1_Click and Timer1_Tick listed below, that should work the same, but they don't. On Timer_Tick event my Control is beeing update every 1 second, but how can I do it calling a new process? Thanks in advance.
protected void process()
{
do
{
TextBox1.Text += "*";
Thread.Sleep(1000);
} while (true);
}
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Thread myT = new Thread(process);
myT.Start();
}
protected void Timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TextBox1.Text += "*";
Thread.Sleep(1000);
}

You can't. Using timers on the server is useless in this context, as the server has no way of sending anything to the page after it has been created. Although the Page object may still remain in memory, it's response has already been sent to the browser, so doing anything to the Page object has no effect at all on the page displayed in the browser.
Anything that you want to do using time delay has to be initiated from the browser. AJAX is useful to do updates without having to reload the page, but still the request comes from the browser, the server can not send anything to the browser on it's own accord.
Use the window.setInterval method in Javascript to create a timer in the web page.
