I created a dialog-type MFC app in VS 2005. I created a handler for the OK button so I can cleanup prior to exiting. However, if the user clicks the red X in the upper right of the dialog, my cleanup code is not executed.
How do I create a handler for when the user quits via the X?
Thanks

Clicking the x acts like the cancel button. You could clean up in a OnCancel() override
as well as OnOk().

Which requires "cleanup" code to be in two spots. Why not do it in just one central spot?

I don't know...why not?
That's why I wrote "You could ..." instead of "The only way to do it is ..."

If you want to account for all methods of dismissing the dialog (OK, Cancel, Alt+F4, "X"), handle the WM_DESTROY message.

Do you mean rows or columns?

There's several things here. What exactly are you needing help with?

I think rows like in the MFC GRID

Given that a row is comprised of one or more columns, are you wanting a full rows worth of data in the combobox?

VC++ is the name of the environment provided by Microsoft. It also includes libraries such as MFC ( well, so long as it's not the 2005 Express Edition ) and C++/CLI ( if it is 2005 ), which other vendors do not offer.
However, C++ is an ANSI standard, and so if you write ANSI C++ on a Microsoft compiler, it should be portable.

In my opinion, beside IDE, VC++ developers should understand two most important differences:
1) VC++ is a Microsoft implementation of Standard C++ features, such as Standard I/O, STL, etc. These are usually portable with little or no effort.
2) VC++ also contains Microsoft extensions to Standard C++, such as MFC and extensions in other specific areas. MSDN documentation usually indicates what is standard C++ and what is MS extension.
It is not surprising that as Standard C++ is OS neutral, not just Windows has the portability issue. Other Unix/Linux compilers have the same issue as well.

I need to code up a converter to process RGB encoded images to YUY2 encoded images. I have good algorithms for the first step that maps between the RGB colorspace to the YUV colorspace (also known as YCbCr) thanks to FourCC.org[^].
What I've not been able to track down is how best to combine two YUV pixels into a YUY2 macropixel. Google pointed me to some code that uses a naive algorithm which is good enough to get the project done but probably not good enough for the final product.
Anybody know of an online publication that might discuss this second step (YUV to YUY2) and sketch out an algorithm that is considered 'good.' Real-time performance is not required.
Thanks,
Dan
Be clear about the difference between your role as a programmer and as a tester. The tester in you must be suspicious, uncompromising, hostile, and compulsively obsessed with destroying, utterly destroying, the programmer's software.

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with an sdi app. I want to have multiple child windows reflecting the contents of a single document (I'm trying to stay away from an mdi app). I've created some CFrameWnd objects as children of the main view (main view is that created by visual cpp 6.0 sdi app wizard) but they are always in an inactived state - even when clicked on. They move, minimize, etc fine but the title bar never changes color to show activation . This is also the case when I create my frames as children of the main (top level) frame. Do I need to redirect messages from my main frame at all, or is there some initialisation I'm missing - or something else altogether ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

What window styles are you using for the child windows?

I'm using WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW for the child frame windows.
