I am trying to install VWD Express, but with no success.
I ran VWDSetup.exe (downloaded from MSFT website) - the process froze while running Setup.exe (CPU use 99% - had to kill via. task manager).
I tried installing .NET 2.0 framework first, but this hit the buffers when trying to run
"C:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\RegSvcx.exe" bootstrapi and ngen.exe (6 times) and I had to kill these via. the task manager.
Then it tells me ".NET 2.0 framework has been successfully installed" when I know that it hasn't!
Help!! I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Has anyone any ideas?
For the record, I am installing on a standalone laptop running XP Pro, 512Mb RAM. There are no previous versions of ASP.NET or .NET framework installed.
Any help would be appreciated.

I can pass a one dimensional array [where PathArray = new Array(1,2,3) is a one dimensional array] simply using: RegisterArrayDeclaration("MyArray", PathsArray)
However if PathArray is multidimensional, for instance if PathArray[0][1] = "one" , PathArray[0][1] = "two", when I pass it using the above, MyArray on the client is one dimensional: MyArray[0] = "one" MyArray[1] = "two"
Is there a way to maintain the integrity of a multidimensional array passed to the client?
Tom

Yes, but the RegisterArrayDeclaration does not support multi dimensional arrays, so you have to create the Javascript code for the array yourself.
As Javascript doesn't have multi dimensional arrays, you have to use a jagged array instead (an array of arrays).
The syntax in Javascript to create a jagged array is:
var MyArray = [['one','two']['three','four']['five','six']];
You just have to figure out how to put together a string that looks like that from your data, and use RegisterStartupScript to add it to the page.

Thanks you.
As you can no doubt tell I'm quite new to ASP.NET / Jscript.NET, though very experienced with Jscript5.6... I had built a jagged array as you described on the server ... I'll look at RegisterStartupScript to see how I might use that to move the array to the client.
I've wondered too about working with the ArrayList Class in System.Collections ... do you know if there's any real advantage to using that instead of the Array Object?
BTW, here's my server side code (more or less)....
<br />
var DirPathIs : String;<br />
var MultLvArr : Array = new Array();<br />
var FiltSlash = /\\/g;<br />
var FltToRel = /topicsdir.+$/i;<br />
var FiltFName = /[ \w\-\(\)]+(?=\.ssproj)/i;<br />
var ClnPath : String;<br />
var ClnName : String;<br />
<br />
for(i in AllTopics){<br />
DirPathIs = AllTopics[i].Name;<br />
MultLvArr[i] = new Array();<br />
MultLvArr[i][0] = "\""+DirPathIs+"\"";<br />
MultLvArr[i][1] = new Array();<br />
ByTpcFilesItr = AllTopics[i].GetFiles("*.ssproj", SearchOption.AllDirectories);<br />
for(q=0; q<ByTpcFilesItr.length; q++){<br />
ClnName = ByTpcFilesItr[q].Name;<br />
if(FiltFName.test(ClnName)){<br />
ClnName = ClnName.match(FiltFName)[0];<br />
}<br />
ClnPath = ByTpcFilesItr[q].FullName;<br />
ClnPath = ClnPath.replace(FiltSlash, "/");<br />
if(FltToRel.test(ClnPath)){<br />
ClnPath = ClnPath.match(FltToRel)[0];<br />
}<br />
else{<br />
ClnPath = "none";<br />
ClnName = "File Path Error";<br />
} <br />
MultLvArr[i][1][q] = new Array("\""+ClnName+"\"", "\""+ClnPath+"\"");<br />
}<br />
}<br />
RegisterArrayDeclaration("MultLvlPathsItr", MultLvArr);

I am not sure why I am getting this error if I have included: "IF NOT GOSSearchRS.BOF AND GOSSearchRS.EOF THEN". I hate to include the whole code but it may prove necessasry to get a response. It runs OK when I submit an empty value but if I search for something that's not in the database I get the error. See Error and Source Code Below.
Error Type:
ADODB.Recordset (0x800A0BCD)
Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.

why you want to put this condition
IF NOT GOSSearchRS.BOF AND GOSSearchRS.EOF THEN
This condition reads if recordset is not BOF and recordset is EOF then
do the execution. If recordset is already EOF the from where u will get the new record.
try this
IF NOT GOSSearchRS.EOF THEN

The index page on a website i'm designing contains a menu for, well, navigation. My question is what is the best route to dynamically set the menu's SiteMapProvider to the correct provider based on a users login credentials.

Hi
I have built 2 .net user controls and placed them both on the same page. One control (headlinedisplay.ascx) displays headlines from a webservice and the other displays the full article of a headline when you click on a headline links in the first usercontrol(articleDisplay.ascx).
I am displaying the headlines from headlinedisplay by progamatically creating asp/html controls. The problem I have is that when I click on a headline(linkbutton) and the Articleclick event fires to render the article the headlines in the headlinedisplay user control dissapear becuase of the post back. I think this happens because the controls were created dynamically and I need to redraw them. (If I through the data into a datalist this doesnt happen but leads to other problems so i cant really use that as a solution)
Does anybody know of away around this?
thanks for your help,
|
|

There is no way around it. If you create controls dynamically, you have to create them every time the page is created.

Guffa,
thanks for the reply. I kind of figured that. I guess I will store the response from the webservice in a session vaiable and then just redisplay the headlines on postback.

Hello,
I want to add nodes to Asp.Net 2.0 SiteMapPath in my runtime code.
I did as follows:
' Create site map path node collection
Dim siteMapPathNodeCollection As SiteMapNodeCollection
' Add node
siteMapPathNodeCollection.Add(New SiteMapNode(...))
My problem is I am ask to insert a 'provider' in SiteMapNode. I don't get it.
I have a data view with various rows and 2 columns 'Title' and 'Url'.
All I want is add these rows values to my site map path.
I was trying to loop through each row in my dataview but I am getting this problem with the provider.
Can someone sugest me how to do this?
Thanks,
Miguel

Take a look at this:
XmlAttributeCollection attrColl = myElement.Attributes;<br />
<br />
Console.WriteLine("Display all the attributes in the collection...");<br />
for (int i = 0; i < attrColl.Count; i++)<br />
{<br />
Console.Write("{0} = ", attrColl[i].Name);<br />
Console.Write("{0}", attrColl[i].Value);<br />
Console.WriteLine();<br />
}
It is in C#, but I am sure, you can translate it to VB

Elina
Life is great!!!

Hi
I am a web developer currently teaching myself ASP.NET 2.0 (in c#) with MySQL (rare combination, but still viable?). Getting ASP.NET & MySQL to work together at first was difficult, but now I understand the basics most code catered towards MS SQL can be altered to work with MySQL.
I mainly create bespoke content management systems for clients, so even though my knowledge is quite weak I am still putting it to regular use and constantly learning new things. I keep coming up against silly bugs/problems, or am having to write an awful lot of code (sometimes snippets twice) because I am not clued up on the best practices as I am essentially just making it up as I go along.
The tutorials and articles here are generally useful, but can sometimes be written crudely as they will only serve one purpose and no point in confusing someone by overcomplicating the methods. Alot of resources out there are catered towards 1.0 and 1.1 - when an awful lot changed in 2.0.
When I was learning PHP it was a great help to find opensource projects to delve into (even ones not classed as opensource still were of help because the code is always available). But with ASP.NET, practically everything is closed source (.dll's) and/or you have to pay a high price to see the source code.
Could anyone please recommend me any books worth getting, or offer any advice on how to find better online resources, or perhaps point me in the direction of some opensource projects I can look at - or towards some opensource groups I could collaborate with.
Thanks

Hello everyone,
Thanks in advance for any responses.
I had a question about developing a custom web service written in .net 2.0 for Windows SharePoint Services (i.e. running in _vti_bin or _Layouts directories). I can write a custom web service in .net 1.1, however, I am having an issue with the discovery of the wsdl for the 2.0 web service. I believe it has to do with the differences between 1.1 and 2.0 web project compilations. There is a great article for writing custom web services for sharepoint on msdn http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/odc_sp2003_ta/html/odc_writingcustomwebservicesforsppt.asp
however, I need one in .net 2.0, any help would be greatly appreciated...
