You beat me to it. I wonder if people do it on purpose to be rude and get attention, or if they just don't know

Hello,
I'd like to run an application in a remote computer, but without client/server structure, for example using the class Process in the remote computer.
Thanks

Doesn't sound like it is for good intentions

Why do you post a Javascript question in the VB forum?
document.body.style.backgroundColor = '#ff0';

b { font-weight: normal; }

Okay so basically I've just started trying to learn VB. I'm trying to make a simple validation form that checks a file for a list of words. The words are usernames and passwords all jumbed up and in no particular order. I'm just starting so I don't want to get into CSV's just yet. So it's all very insecure etc.
As you can see I would like the form to check read.txt to see if the correct combination of words are there, and if they are continue on.
Please read the comments in the code and you'll quickly see whats wrong I guess
Private Sub btn1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn1.Click<br />
Dim User, Pass As String<br />
Dim validationFile As String<br />
User = txtbx1.Text<br />
Pass = txtbx2.Text<br />
validationFile = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("C:\read.txt")<br />
If txtbx2.Text.Length < 5 And Not txtbx2.Text Like "#####" Then<br />
MsgBox("Please enter a password with more then 5 charactors")<br />
txtbx2.Text = ("")<br />
ElseIf Pass <> validationFile Then<br />
'It's above here that I have the problem, <> means equal too if I'm 'right in VB.Net but I'd like it to be something along the lines of IsIn or ==. 'I just want it to check to make sure the words are in the file you see.<br />
MsgBox("Access Granted")<br />
Me.Close() 'Just an example of what it should do.<br />
End If<br />
End Sub<br />
End Class
Sorry about the bad coding, but I just need help with that one thing.
Hope you can help!
Kind Regards,
StyleUK.

Are you learning VB6, or are you using the nasty VB6 hangover stuff instead of .NET ?
If the latter ( I think so ), there's a contains method on the string class.

<> means NOT equal to.
You want the ENTIRE content of the text file to be the password? Why did you choose to do it like this? It'll be plainly readable & editable outside of your app - not secure at all, you may as well not bother asking for a username/password.
What functionality do you want to implement? Does the app really need that level of security?

Hey All,
Can anyone help. I need to produce a simple 2D pie chart in a seperate form that links to the main form where 3 figures are put in and then used to create the pie chart.
I have no idea about VB.net and it needs to be coded in this language.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction, it's not a hard problem just I simply have no idea how to go about it!!!
Thx All

I have created a main form that the figures are input and this works. Also greated a blank form. I just need to have an idea on what to put!
I hope I have explained this well enough, it's as simple as it sounds!
Thx Again

Bumped into a nice (think VS2005) coded Ordering System a while ago available with source code.
Would be a nice start to build on : I remember it had large buttons on the left side with the
customers name in order to view order details etc.
Does anybody know what I'm talking about and where I can find it.
Tips very welcome

Are you talking about the same kind of side menu that Windows uses, or something more like this?
Any chance that you could find an example?

It looked more like a large-button menu on the left side with the customers name. I'm sure it also was on a developer site with vb tips etc.
thanks.

Ok, just create a ToolStrip and dock it to the left (or whatever side you want to have it on.) Now set the Image Scaling Size , which adjusts how large the icons are.

Hello,
Can someone give me some instructions along with some code on how to insert icons into a listbox so that icons are on the left and a string on the right.
Thank you,
Yoshi

Create an ImageList , then set the images that you want to appear in the ListBox. Then in the ListBox, set the Image Index (images set in the ImageList) to each item.

Thanks, if it helps I am using the same icon for all the items in the list box, need I use an image list still?
Can you please explain what do you mean by "Then in the listbox, set the image index(images set int the ImageList) to each item."
Thanks,
Yoshi

Sorry, I thought you were using a ListView, not a ListBox. You can try using a ListView for your project, it does pretty much the same thing, but with more options. And you cannot set images in a ListBox.
If you do use a ListView, open the Item Edit menu and for each item there will be an "Image Index" item, then just select the image you want (a list of all the images you have set in the ImageList will appear).
And yes you still need an ImageList even for a single image.
