Put you values in a database, or use query string.

I want a custom menu for my ASP.NET page. I have several sections and several users. Each user can only access the section he is responsible for. So I want the menu show only the sections the user has access to.
How do I create a menu like this in ASP.NET? Do I have to write a custom control, or is there a simpler solution? I don't want a static menu! According to the user logged in, menu entries should disappear completely (the entries he has got no access).
From a PHP point of view I simply would access the database everytime the page is loaded and generate HTML code according to the user logged in. The ASP.NET equivalent would be a custom control with a custom Render() function, wouldn't it? Is there a simpler way, and if not, how do I create this control? I'm sure some of you has a solution to my problem.
Thanks in advance,
Simon Parzer

Don't waste time patching your paper bucket - get a plastic one.

It is very easy to do with a tree view control. Go Here for more information.

So for every user login I would create a data source for the user's "customized" menu and assign that data source to my tree view? That would really be very easy.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi,
I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003 on my workstation, say PC01
The IIS runs on a different workstation on our LAN, say PC02.
(SQL Server is there too, on the same machine)
And our document root is on yet another workstation, say PC03
on the LAN.
It is mapped as a virtual directory in IIS on PC02.
I have full access to all the workstations. How do I create
an C# ASP.NET webproject in Visual Studio, on the server?
Presently it is not allowing me to work with a remote IIS server,
but Dreamweaver has this facility of remote development.
Is there a way to achieve this?
ASP - AJAX is SEXY. PERIOD.

Perhaps you have to add on the IIS server system PC02's Users Account to
you log-in details such as ASPNET, ACTUser, VUSR_<sysname pc02=""> and groups of Debugger Users, VS Developers.
I hope this may rectify your problem.

We use the following code to authenticate users through the web service
When we type the URL in IE we are able to see the webservice.
But when we connect through .NET, it is failing. Any system related, proxy related settings to be checked. They changed the proxy server from some
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy. We used to connect through .NET when we used xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The System people are checking and it seems that they are running out of ideas. Solution is greatly appreciated
WebProxy proxy = new WebProxy("xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", 80);
proxy.BypassProxyOnLocal = true;
proxy.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("user","password","domain");
// instantiating the class for calling the webservice to authenicate against SSO
AuthenticateUser service=new AuthenticateUser();
// populating the inputXML String to be sent to the web service with username and password
string inputXml1 = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>";
inputXml1 += "<transaction xmlns=\"https://website" xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" ";
inputXml1 += " type=\"request\" date=\"1967-08-13\" version=\"1\">";
inputXml1 += " <credential type=\"user\" id=\""+userName+"\" password=\""+userPassword+"\"/>";
inputXml1 += " </transaction>";
//calling the proxy
service.Proxy = proxy;
log.Error(inputXml1);
log.Error(inputXml1);
// calling the webservice and storing the outputXML
log.Error("inside third after inputxl ");
string outputXML=service.Authenticate(inputXml1);

Strange. That code should not compile, as \' is not a valid escape sequence.
You have to use "\\'" to get a string containing a backslash followed by an apostrophe.
---
b { font-weight: normal; }
|
|
|
|
|
I'm sure that's the answer. \' is not a valid escape sequence.
Totally agree with Guffa. \\' is the way of escaping the slash.

do you use it this way?
strAns = strAns.Replace("'","\'");

Why are you using hidden fields instead of viewstate ?

Please Tell me Just How Can I disable View Source.(When u right click on a page and Click on View Source). I want to disable View Source on page and also in toolbar "view"
|
|
|

You can't stop it from the menu, hence my asking why you;re writing insecure code in the first place.
Is there a reason ?
