I hope someone would make an article on how to use Nero Api for burning CD/DVD in VB.NET.
I know that there is a sample project for Nero Api but I think it's to complex to figure out and it is in C#.
The thing I looking for is a simple apllication which are showing how to burn some files on a DVD. Both in single session and multi session.
Thanks

Why Nero and not just any kind of CD/DVD burning API?

I'am currently using DVDWritePro from NumediaSoft and I get too many burning errors and DVD's with cyclic redudans errors. So I'll like to try Nero because I find there program very good and hope it will work better. and also because we already has a lot of unused Nero licenses.
Do you have another component im mind, please let me know.

hi,
i am working on the Business Model of Communication System - based on Real Time concepts - and i am hardly in need of a series of well-defined practical design patterns. The only source i have found till now (book of Design Patterns in Communications System ,Linda Rising) is not satisfying because it consists of some theorical suggestion without practical solution for implementation.
any suggestion in this article is most appreciated

If you could find a way of discussing (by article) the concept of concurrency (and multithreading) for Real Time applications, I think that would be welcomed.

thanks for your suggestion, but in this phase i am not working on my software architect, just trying to find an oo solution for my bussiness objects e.g. applying observer pattern for the behavior of the Call and its related Features.i guess what you mentioned relies on the architecture.
any further suggestion is most welcomed.

I like this book it talks about how to make desgin pattern efficient, their strategy and also shows you implementation. Although, you would find baic java codes are written in there but i believe you can use for C# and other programming langauges as concepts are still the same.
Let me know what you think about it.

I am working on Part I,Unit 6 ,A Pattern Language of Call Processing now,in fact that was a little bit hard to understand what the author really means, (I can point to some pages) anyway I went through it. I have designed my model based on it which I found very very interesting after I understood of course.
Now I have a basic model (Class Diagrams) which I really would like to get feedback ideas and have more discussion from whom are expert on this domain(Telecommunication).
Kind regards,

Hello Filip,
As you have a working knowledge of the WebBrowser control, how about creating a HTML chat control?
Expected features:
1) animation/image/text display (usual things),
2) CSS-based configuration (most natural for HTML),
3) in-place editing (a user may edit his current statement directly inside the control).
I'd recommend and prefer .NET (C++/CLI , C# ) for ease of use and language interop. I know there's a RichTextBox available, but it's much less than perfect.
The control could be similar to the Miranda IEView plugin[^], but with in-place editing capability.

Hi all,
I just wanted to ask you all about putting together a series of articles on Latex. Latex is a scripting language used for generating high quality, standardized documents. It's focus is on typesetting the infamously difficult subjects such as complex mathematics for engineering and computer science.
Latex is a standard in most tertiary education institutes and is used by scientists throughout the world. It is widely available for all platforms.
Latex can be quite difficult for newbies and a series of articles would be valuable for those who want to use it.
Please, if anyone wants this series please reply.
Thanks

I have never ever heared of "Latex"...
And stop posting the same message in every message board.
I have already read it in "General Discussion"...
Don't you also love the code?

LATEX [^] is the standard at most universities. It is intended to provide high-level access to the power of TEX [^] but that is not really important.
The greatest thing about Latex is that it automates tedious tasks such as referencing, cross-referencing, bibliographies, figures, tables, page-layouts, presentations.
While most word-processing apps (like MS Word) can do most of these things, the nice thing about latex is that it is a scripting language so you can actually define new comands and redifine existing commands. There is also extensive resources on the net where you can download additional packages for type-setting code, algorithms, trees, graphs, parse-trees, and so on.
Anything you need typed for engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry (any field really) can be done in latex.

hi,
well I wanted to request a general article on how to design the main page of a db application. I know it might sound weird but u know if some buddy can give us a few guidlines abt what to think of and how to manage the database sections and navigation it would be really nice I think. I'm working on a database project which is quite a big ddatabase and I'm kind of a new bie in this. By now I've managed to learn how to make forms and reports but now I cant figure out how I can give teh users a good interface for navigation u know.
thanks

Hey,
It all depends on how you have planned your project. By this planning I mean have you decided who the project is going to be used by.
If your project is going to be used by a pro (like all of us here on CP) then you could have an interface with some advanced functionality like doing custom queries, letting your user perform SQL queries (but this is always risky), etc.
If your project is going to be used by non-pros (like my mom) then you would want to design the interface to be as simple and self-operating as possible.
Of course, you could always allow both (with a normal/expert tab for example).
This may not be the complete answer to your question but it is always useful to bear these decisions in mind. Making small decisions like these can help you narrow (or broaden) the functionality you are going to provide.
Where to from there? Make a list of the functions that you want to provide. But only include the most fundamental on the main form. Remember, you want your app to be functional but not cluttered. A good rule is, If it is not necessary or will not be used, then don't do it.
The best times in life are the ones that you can't remeber!!!

very briefly,
Visual Studio .Net 2003 comes with Compact Framework support (New Project-->Smart Device Application) and you can use in-built Simulator to run application on host system. You will need Microsoft ActiveSync latest version to connect device to host system with a usb cable. when you build solution, look at Output window to figure out which libraries are invovled. you need to transfer those libraries to smart device and install them. you will find libraries targetting different processors on smart device normally in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\v1.0.5000\Windows CE\wce400". these cab files need to be installed on device.
hope this will help you get started.

It would be nice to have an article about manipulating the windows taskbar... eg. adding some controls to it / changing the system clock (that's what i'm trying to do at the moment, but can't find any material on how to do it, except an ugly hack proposed by a guy, to get control of it message pump, and paint thingies)... And other stuff about manipulating it. Who has looked into this one as is willing to share it with the "community" is welcome :->
