Hi All,
I am using a datagrid on a page to show some data from my sql database.
I just need to know if you can use a regular expression to change a 1 into 'Male'?
If not how would I change something like that.
My SQL database is returning integers and I want to display them nicely.
Thanks,
Gavin

Use a template column such as:
<br />
public string MyFormat()<br />
{<br />
return MyFormatedString;<br />
}<br />
<br />
<asp:DataGrid ....<br />
<ItemTemplate><br />
<% =MyFormat() %><br />
Should be enough for you to fill in the blanks. Search MSDN for ItemTemplate or look at Dino Esposito's recent three part MSDN Mag series on build a Data Navigator control.

|
|
You can do that with an SQL statement
assume gender is the name of your column:
Select decode(gender, '0', 'Female', '1', 'Male') as gender from sometable
search for "sql decode" on google

I need to be able to create an image where I can specify a point (this one being the center) and a second point that is X° from the first point. I then need to be able to draw a straight line from point 1 to point 2. It would also be nice if I am able to label both points. The two points represent the direction or bearing from the first point (From) to the second point (To). This is for the web, so I thought that Office Web Components would be best. I will know the X° that the 2nd point is from the first. Does anyone have any ideas for this? Thanks in advance.

I believe that Microsoft licence the use Office Web Components only on a LAN. Because they believe that not all clients accessing the web server have valid offce licences. Check their web side for details. So if you are planning to use it on a public web server consider something else.

Is there any reason (security?) why the Service Controller.GetServices method returns nothing in an ASP .NET application on WIN 2000 running as Administrator? The same code running in a console app returns all the services on the machine.

Hello everyone I recently had to reformat my harddrive (lost everything ) Now when i create a web service and try to view it in Internet Explorer it prompts me to download the service and wont display it... If i just double click the file it opens into VS.NET code view . I do not know what is wrong, it used to work before I had to reformat my HD.
Can anyone here help me?

It may be obvious but you have reinstalled the .NET Framework? This of course sets up IIS so it can recognize ASP.NET files.
|
|
|
|
|
Well, I installed VS.NET (Visual C# .NET standard and Visual C++ .NET standard to be percise). The only thing I can think of is that I installed IIS after VS.NET, is that my problem?
|
|
|
|
|
Yes, that is the problem. Reinstall the framework.

Just a though, but your 'Open' commend for *.asmx files may be set to VS.NET. You can change to see whether VS.NET or IE is your default viewer by cheking...
1) open Windows Explore
2) Tools->Folder Options->File Types (tab)
3) Scroll down to (and select) ASMX
4) Click 'Change...' button (bellow on dailogbox)
5) Select your program
Hopefully that my solve your problem

I am using HTMLDialogs and they are great apart from one problem. IE always seems to use a cached version of the page and I have to clear the cache to make it update! Anyway around this?
Thanks!!

Try putting
Response.AddHeader "Pragma", "no-cache" in your code
"Isn't that the "write once, debug everywhere" language?" Tom Archer on Java...
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks Brian. I added the line but it still used the cached page. However I changed my IE settings to check for a newer page on every visit and this seems to work. It could be related to the way I am calling the dialog (via script).

I need to have a timer displayed on an aspx page that reads the time from the server and automatically updates it on the client browser. I was thinking some sort of web service but I'm open to other suggestions or possiblities.

You would need client-side code to do that (JavaScript, VBScript). Server side code couldn't accomplish that. Unless of course you created a Windows Form and then included that in your page, but that requires the end user to have the .Net Framework.

This is for an internal application so requiring the user to have .NET is not a problem.
I was thinking of have a JavaScript function use setInterval to call the webservice. I'm thinking of investigating how I might use web service behaviors to help with this.

My webhost sadly doesn't support ASP only PHP. I'd like to be able to test my site locally before uploading it.
What do I need to run PHP apps on my Windows 2000 Server?
Michael

Download PHP for windows from PHP.net.
If your host uses an older version of PHP, you should try to match it with another version.
